Chapter 695: Chapter 308: A Phone Call from Hong Kong Island

6:00 PM.

The production team had just finished filming the show.

They were planning a get-together for everyone that evening—a wrap party of sorts, or maybe a farewell dinner.

After all, they had been recording the show for nearly a week.

It was standard practice.

But, as was also standard practice, Song Xiaowei was absent. She had asked for leave, saying she had other plans for the evening.

To show her apologies, she also offered to pay for the gathering herself, so they wouldn’t have to use the station’s budget.

You had to admit, she was incredibly tactful.

She wasn’t attending, but she was footing the bill. This left those who might have called her unsociable or stuck-up with nothing to criticize, forcing them to hold their tongues.

Zhang Jin and his wife, naturally, also declined the invitation right away.

Like Song Xiaowei, they had a dinner engagement with Xu Yun and needed to hurry back to the hotel to change and get ready.

As for the location, they weren’t sure yet. Song Xiaowei hadn’t told them.

Not long after returning to their hotel, the couple received a message from Song Xiaowei. Looking at the address, they were both a little surprised.

A residential complex? An apartment building?

‘Are we eating at someone’s home?’

But that didn’t seem right. Given Xu Yun’s wealth, his home should be a massive single-floor apartment or a grand villa, not an address like this.

Filled with confusion and doubt, the couple took a taxi to their destination nonetheless.

It was an ordinary residential complex.

They saw the elderly security guard, strolled right in without any trouble, and followed the address on their phone to the correct building.

Then they took the elevator up to the apartment door.

The two of them found it hard to imagine that Xu Yun would live in a place like this.

Cai Shaofen asked, “Honey, is this really the place?”

“It should be.”

Zhang Jin wasn’t entirely sure either. “Let’s knock and see,” he said.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

In response to the knocking, the door opened.

It was Song Xiaowei.

Compared to her polished appearance on the show, she was dressed casually now.

“You’re here! Come on in.”

Song Xiaowei smiled and welcomed them inside.

It was a modestly sized apartment.

Two people, a man and a woman, were busy in the kitchen.

Hearing someone at the door, they both turned to look.

Zhang Jin and his wife recognized the man. It was Brother Lin, whom they had met on Hong Kong Island. He seemed to be Xu Yun’s bodyguard and part-time guide.

They didn’t recognize the other woman.

“Hello, Brother Lin,” the couple called out politely.

“Hello to you both.”

Seeing them, Lin Wanzhou smiled. “Younger Brother Zhang, you and your wife just make yourselves comfortable in the living room for a bit. My hands are full right now, so I can’t properly greet you. My apologies.”

“It’s no problem at all.”

Zhang Jin said, “We’re the ones intruding.”

“Xiaowei, give Xu Yun a call and ask when he’s coming,”

Lin Wanzhou said to her. “That guy has nothing to do all day, yet he’s still the last one to show up.”

“Okay, Brother Lin, I’ll ask him right now.”

Song Xiaowei led Zhang Jin and his wife to the living room, turned on the TV, and poured each of them a glass of water before going to call Xu Yun.

Zhang Jin and Cai Shaofen were a little confused.

‘Didn’t they say President Xu was treating tonight?’

‘Why does it feel like Lin Wanzhou is the host? It seems like we and Xu Yun are the guests.’

Furthermore, everyone tonight was dressed casually, for a night at home, while the two of them were dressed to the nines. They felt completely out of place with everyone else and the surroundings.

‘If we’d known this was the situation, we wouldn’t have gone back to the hotel just to change clothes.’

“Brother Lin, Xu Yun will be here any second. He’s already downstairs.”

After saying this, Song Xiaowei came into the living room to join Zhang Jin and his wife. She smiled and said, “It’s just some simple home-style cooking tonight. I hope you two don’t mind.”

“How could we possibly mind? You’re too kind, Miss Song,”

Cai Shaofen replied with a smile. “It’s an honor for my husband and me to be able to attend President Xu’s home-cooked dinner.”

“Actually, let me explain on behalf of Xu Yun.”

Song Xiaowei said with a smile, “Originally, Xu Yun was going to treat you to dinner. But then it turned out that Brother Lin was also treating Xu Yun to dinner today, so Xu Yun just decided to have everyone eat together. He said you and Brother Lin were also friends and already knew each other.”

“Oh, so that’s how it is.”

The couple nodded, finally understanding. “It’s just that for an occasion like this,” they said, a little embarrassed, “our outfits seem a bit inappropriate.”

“Hahaha, they are a little on the formal side.”

Zhang Jin and his wife: “…”

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Needless to say, it had to be Xu Yun.

Song Xiaowei immediately went to open it.

Xu Yun walked in, carrying a bottle of liquor. He said to Lin Wanzhou, “Old Lin, for the sake of this meal, I shamelessly went to someone’s house and begged them for a treasured bottle of Maotai for you.”

“Alright, alright. I’ll accept this favor.”

Lin Wanzhou laughed happily. “Tonight, we’ll just have to see how much of it you’re able to drink.”

“Hello, Brother Xu,” Wang Yurou, who was standing nearby, called out.

“Hello, sister-in-law. You’ve worked hard today.”

Xu Yun said, “Later, I’ll make sure Old Lin eats extra helpings of your cooking.”

“He doesn’t need any encouragement.”

Being called “sister-in-law” by Xu Yun made Wang Yurou a little shy. “Just as long as you don’t mind my cooking,” she said.

“Zhang Jin is already here,”

Song Xiaowei reminded him from the side. “He’s waiting for you in the living room.”

“Mm.”

Hearing this, Xu Yun followed Song Xiaowei into the living room.

Seeing him again, Zhang Jin and his wife quickly stood up to greet him.

“Hello, President Xu.”

“Hello, you two.”

Xu Yun gestured for everyone to sit down, then said with a smile, “You two… coming all the way to Jiangcheng without even telling me. If Xiaowei hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have even known you were here.”
