Super Rich by Doing as You Please
Chapter 663 - 295: You’d Think He Was Your Son-in-Law
After seeing Fu Baoying settled, Xu Yun drove to Wu Jinyan’s home.
It was a fairly standard apartment complex.
The building had thirty-two floors, eight units per floor, and three elevators.
As a result, the wait for an elevator could be long, often more than ten minutes.
Xu Yun wasn’t in a hurry. He just stood by the elevators, holding the gift he’d brought for his teacher.
A retired old woman sized him up and asked curiously, "Young man, what floor do you live on? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around before."
"Ma’am, I don’t live in this complex."
Xu Yun replied with a smile, "I’m here to visit one of my elders."
"Oh, who are you visiting?"
The old woman said warmly, "I’ve lived here for ten years. I know most of the people in this building."
Er...
Xu Yun wasn’t quite used to such a forward woman.
Still, he answered with a smile, "I’m looking for Wu Jinyan—Teacher Wu. Do you know her?"
"Of course! She’s the intellectual of our building, a university professor."
The old woman’s face lit up. "And it’s not just her," she said with a grin. "Her daughter is also a university professor. She’s gorgeous, but I hear she’s still single. Her standards must be pretty high.
"Young man, look, I’m not trying to put you down. You’re decent-looking, sure, but without some serious financial backing, it’s going to be tough. I’m just saying, don’t get your hopes up."
"..."
A helpless expression crossed Xu Yun’s face.
’Ma’am, what on earth gave you the idea I’m here to pursue her daughter?’
Just as he was about to protest, a pleasant female voice chimed in from behind him. "Aunt Liu, you don’t need to worry about my business. You should focus on your own son—he’s thirty and still single, isn’t he?"
"Oh, well if it isn’t Jingya."
The old woman, looking a bit guilty, said, "Home from work so early today?"
"Something came up, so I came home early."
Ou Jingya smiled. "And what do you know, the moment I’m back, I catch you badmouthing me again."
"I wasn’t! I would never."
The old woman said, "I have to go, I’ll be on my way."
"Take care. I’ll be sure to tell my mom to find you for a nice, long chat."
After the old woman left, Ou Jingya turned to Xu Yun and said with a smile, "Senior, long time no see!"
"You’re Ou Jingya?"
Xu Yun stared at the woman before him, finding it hard to reconcile her with the girl he remembered from their university days.
’They say a girl goes through a major transformation by the time she’s eighteen, but no one ever mentioned they can transform again *after* college.’
"What’s the matter?"
Ou Jingya retorted with a smile, "Is it because I’ve gotten so ugly you can’t recognize me anymore?"
"No."
Xu Yun denied it with a smile. "You’ve become even more beautiful. Your figure is amazing, and you have a new... elegance about you."
"You too."
Ou Jingya said, "You’re still as handsome as ever, but now you seem more confident, more charismatic."
DING.
The elevator arrived.
Ou Jingya gestured. "Let’s go. My mom has probably had dinner ready for a while now."
"Okay."
Inside the elevator, neither of them spoke.
Ou Jingya deliberately stood behind Xu Yun, observing him closely.
From his clothes down to his accessories.
’His clothes look like they’re good quality, but with no obvious brand labels, I can’t tell how much they’re worth.’
’His wrist is bare, too—no watch.’
’Finally, she glanced at the gift in his hands. Judging by the generic bags, it was probably nothing special.’
’Mom said his net worth was over a hundred million, but he doesn’t quite fit my image of a successful elite.’
’Or... is he just very low-key?’
’True or not, I’ll be able to test him out during dinner.’
When it came to men, she had her own set of standards.
’You don’t have to be handsome, and you don’t have to be rich, but you cannot be vain.’
Therefore, whether she was making friends or looking for a potential boyfriend, her first impression was always based on that criterion.
Soon, the elevator arrived at the 9th floor.
Ou Jingya entered the passcode, opened the door, and led Xu Yun inside.
"Mom, I’m home."
"That was fast."
Wu Jinyan, wearing an apron, called out from the kitchen, "Come and give me a hand, then. Xu Yun should be arriving any minute."
"Mom, he’s already here."
Xu Yun called out with a smile, "Teacher Wu, please don’t rush. I’m not hungry yet."
"What?"
Hearing Xu Yun’s voice, Wu Jinyan hurried out of the kitchen. She looked at them with a puzzled smile and asked, "How did you two get here together? Did you plan this?"
"No."
Ou Jingya answered, "I just ran into my senior here by the elevators downstairs."
"Teacher Wu."
Xu Yun handed her the bags. "Since it’s my first time imposing on you for a meal, I wasn’t sure what to get. This is just a little something for you and your daughter. It’s not much, just a small token."
"Oh, you shouldn’t have! Just having you visit is a gift enough."
Wu Jinyan took the gifts, casually setting them aside. "Jingya," she said, "take Xu Yun to the living room to watch some TV. Dinner will be ready in a moment."
"Okay."
Wu Jinyan’s apartment wasn’t huge—about 130 square meters—and had a very traditional layout and decor.
Ou Jingya asked, "What do you want to watch?"
"Anything is fine. I don’t really watch much TV."
"You don’t watch TV?"
Ou Jingya smiled. "That makes sense. A successful man like yourself must be swamped with endless meetings, far too busy for television."
"Er, not really."
Xu Yun said, "I’m actually bored most days. I sleep until I wake up naturally and spend my time wondering how to kill time. A while back, I even took an RV out by myself and traveled along the country’s border for a month."
Ou Jingya was speechless.
’Seriously? This guy doesn’t follow the script at all.’
Xu Yun had been observing his surroundings ever since he walked in, and he noticed there were no signs of a man living in the home.
