Chapter 1494: Traces of Ying
At this moment, there was a sudden knock on the door, bang bang bang! Two fast and one slow, it was an agreed signal, a sign of allies. Jiang Cheng opened the door, and outside stood a person about the same age as him, with a buzz cut, dressed in sportswear, standing straight, his eyes full of strength.
“Please come in,” Jiang Cheng invited the person into the room.
“Hello! You must be Jiang Cheng. I’m Mu Yu. The boss instructed me to meet up with you on the street.” This person named Mu Yu said.
The two shook hands: “Hello Mu Yu, I am Jiang Cheng. This time the boss asked me to join this mission. I hope we can cooperate smoothly in Zhang City to perfect the mission swiftly.”
Jiang Cheng directly said what he was required to. He had only promised the boss this one mission, and after that, he would be free again, as he was accustomed to freedom and disliked being controlled or disciplined.
He preferred a life of unrestrained freedom rather than one confined to routines following instructions. Therefore, he wanted to complete the mission quickly so he could leave this place as soon as possible.
“Dragon City cooperation is a given, but there is a reason why the boss assigned you to this task. You should be aware,” Mu Yu said, his face looking troubled, as if there were many secrets.
“Why, is this mission particularly difficult?” Jiang Cheng asked dismissively, sipping his tea. In his view, there was no mission that couldn’t be completed, believing that where there’s a will, there’s a way.
“Our mission this time is to take down Yunmo Group, which has been entrenched along the border in my area for many years. We’ve never had enough evidence to act until now. We’ve gathered ample evidence, so the higher-ups have decided to completely eliminate Yunmo Group this time.”
Mu Yu explained the mission seriously, speaking with some excitement, but his expression still looked uneasy. Clearly, the mission was indeed challenging.
“Mo Niao? Isn’t that supposed to be handled by the bureau? Why now, why assign it to the military? Is the military too idle, taking on tasks for fun?” Jiang Cheng asked, puzzled. The military should be fighting battles, handling major events, not small tasks like this.
“Comrade Jiang Cheng, you might not know this group well. I’ve transmitted the data to your mobile device. You can read through it later. I can tell you, this Mo Niao is not an ordinary group; it has its own army, so it must be us to eradicate them.” Mu Yu said excitedly, like an angry bird ready to kill Mo Niao in one shot.
Jiang Cheng picked up his phone and started to carefully read all of Mo Niao’s information. It included everything about Mo Niao, his bodyguards, and all his relationships, even accompanied by photos.
Jiang Cheng realized a lot of preliminary work had been done, and Mo Niao must have been in their line of sight for a long time, only now allowing such comprehensive data to be assembled.
After finishing reading, Jiang Cheng closed his eyes and reviewed everything he had just seen as if watching a movie in his mind. Once he was sure he had memorized it all, he deleted the content entirely.
This process was watched by Mu Yu, who looked at Jiang Cheng with wide-eyed amazement, “You’ve memorized it all so quickly? You’re so confident to just delete it?” Mu Yu then understood why the boss had arranged for Jiang Cheng to join this mission; Jiang Cheng indeed had extraordinary abilities.
Jiang Cheng tapped his forehead with a finger and said, “It’s all inside now.” This confidence was innate, enhanced by special post-natal training and constant application, giving him an exceptional memory, truly as others said, able to remember at a glance.
“It’s not safe to live here; I’ll take you to the team now. Pack up your luggage and come with me.” Mu Yu directly instructed Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng also remembered the attempt on his life yesterday; as soon as he arrived here, someone had been following him. He wondered how only a few people knew he was here, yet he was tracked. Jiang Cheng knew in his gut there was an insider, likely the reason they hadn’t been able to apprehend Mo Niao for years.
Moreover, this allowed Mo Niao to gradually grow stronger, so much so that their team couldn’t handle it, forcing them to dispatch the military.
“I don’t need to pack; I haven’t taken anything out. We can leave now.” Jiang Cheng finished the tea in his cup, hating to waste tea. This hotel, likely one of the best here, used high-quality tea leaves.
Jiang Cheng carried his luggage and followed Mu Yu to the front desk, checked out of the hotel, and walked out. Jiang Cheng looked around instinctively, finding nothing unusual, and the two of them got into a car.
The car had barely moved a few meters when suddenly a shadow flitted by, a person fell hard after being hit by the car, and Mu Yu braked urgently, jumping out and running towards the person.
Jiang Cheng, about to say something, didn’t manage to speak up before Mu Yu dashed out. Feeling it was too late, he jumped out of the car too and ran over.
The person lay in front of the car, showing the marks of being hit. Jiang Cheng clearly saw the person dart towards the car; was this a scam that failed?
Mu Yu stood up and said to Jiang Cheng, “The person is dead.” Jiang Cheng was puzzled — the car wasn’t moving very fast; how did it result in death so quickly? There must be something shady, but no clue could be found.
Thus, they reported, and decided to wait for the team to handle it; they couldn’t make rash decisions, avoid overstepping, as he and Rongyu waited for the team’s arrival.
Suddenly, Jiang Cheng felt a cool breeze behind him, instinctively turned his head, and saw someone pointing a gun at him. Jiang Cheng dove forward, and a gunshot rang out, the bullet grazing his body and hitting a big tree ahead.
Another bullet struck Mu Yu’s arm. Jiang Cheng did a jump and chased after the person, who fired two shots and ran, disappearing into the crowd in an instant.
Not able to catch up, Jiang Cheng, worried about Mu Yu’s injuries, hurried back, seeing Mu Yu standing there, holding his arm, blood had stained it red, while the team and ambulance had arrived by then.
As the team arrived, Mu Yu showed his credentials, enlightening the team as brothers. After examining the body, they said, “This person was a lackey of the Ink Vendor, and had been dead for three hours.”
Jiang Cheng said, “So, when the person crashed into our car, he was already dead, implying a setup for assassination.”
“Exactly,” said the team member, then they took the corpse away. After bandaging Mu Yu, the ambulance recommended him for hospitalization. Mu Yu wanted to ensure Jiang Cheng’s arrangements before getting admitted, thanking the nurse and walking with Jiang Cheng, as the car, damaged from the crash, was taken away by a tow truck.
Not far ahead, Jiang Cheng suddenly brightened, having spotted a shadow too familiar — the person who had shot at him earlier. Jiang Cheng asked Mu Yu to rest by the roadside before he moved to encircle the person.
The person, seeing Jiang Cheng approaching from the front, turned and fled. The previous time, the distance hindered Jiang Cheng catching him, but this time he vowed no such opportunity would be given. Fueled by determination, Jiang Cheng pursued vigorously.
