Chapter 1487: Chapter 1477: Surveillance

When Jiang Cheng said those words, he already knew what would happen and understood Xu Ying’s reaction, but he still said it because he truly doesn’t love Xu Ying. Xu Ying thinks Xu He and Liu Yu are a match made in heaven.

So even though Xu Ying was heartbroken, he still said those words because he didn’t want to see Xu Ying waste her time on him. It was unfair to Xu Ying because there was no outcome at all.

Acting this way is being responsible to Xu Ying, at least he’s not deceiving her feelings. Nowadays, many have a stable family life, but they are fickle outside, leading chaotic lives. However, Jiang Cheng loathes this kind of colorful life. He only wishes his love to be single-minded, like a pond of water, requiring only one scoop, loyal and unwavering.

In his heart, there’s only Mengmeng. Only Mengmeng makes his heartbeat accelerate, blood boil, feel the pain of longing, and care for her in every possible way.

Jiang Cheng picked up the bottle and filled his glass, quoting, "Better not to let the moon see an empty glass. Life is meant to be enjoyed. When yearning turns into idle melancholy, it weighs down the brows but rises in the heart." He wondered how Mengmeng was doing now.

Thinking about Mengmeng, Jiang Cheng’s heart hurt deeply; it’s an excruciating pain, a pain etched deep in his bones and memories. Many people crossed Jiang Cheng’s path, but none made him lose direction like Mengmeng did.

Willing to give up following ambition, just to amuse and make the beauty smile. Tears slowly moistened his eyes though people said men don’t easily shed tears unless deeply saddened.

When Xu Ying ran out, Elder Xu saw it, feeling urgent inside, but he noticed Jiang Cheng remained unmoved, continuing to sit there, drinking and eating.

This made Elder Xu very angry, but he didn’t erupt because Jiang Cheng knew the boss, and the boss had instructed Elder Xu, so Elder Xu suppressed his anger.

But the anxiety for his daughter, as any parent would have an unequaled affection and silent dedication, even someone like Elder Xu couldn’t help it. He worried about his daughter’s safety in going out like this.

So he stood up, picked up his wine glass, and went to Jiang Cheng’s side. Jiang Cheng saw Elder Xu approaching, so he quickly stood up. Big shots always behave like this, even if they want to do something, they don’t express it too blatantly; they keep it hidden while speaking.

Like Elder Xu now, although he’s very upset with Jiang Cheng, he didn’t show it, instead maintaining a smiling face: "Jiang Cheng, let’s have a drink together," and then their glasses clinked.

Both drained their glasses, then Elder Xu said: "Jiang Cheng, you know about Xu Ying’s feelings for you. As an elder, I shouldn’t meddle in you young people’s love affairs, but she ran off, I’m worried. You better go out and look around."

"It’s okay, what could happen? She’s a grown-up and quite capable. Besides, Liu Yu already chased after her, so I don’t need to bother." Jiang Cheng directly refused Elder Xu.

Elder Xu was infuriated, turned around and walked away, then brought his bodyguard over: "You quickly go and see where Xu Ying went. Make sure she’s safe. Once you find her, bring her back right away. If you can’t bring her back, then follow her closely and ensure her safety. If anything happens to her, I’ll hold you accountable."

Elder Xu sternly instructed the guard, who turned around and dashed out. He understood the gravity of the situation. Elder Xu sat back down, disturbed by his daughter’s sudden departure. At this moment, the boss picked up a glass of wine, saying to Elder Xu: "Elder Xu, let’s have a drink. Let the kids handle their own affairs. Children grow up, and you can’t control them forever. Why let yourself be so troubled?"

"Sorry for embarrassing you, boss. I didn’t expect them to pull such a stunt. Elder Xu replied awkwardly, forcing a smile.

Their glasses clinked heavily, then they both drank it in one go. They then sat down, began chatting and eating.

The atmosphere returned to liveliness, seeming like the earlier scene never happened. Indeed, people are selfish, minding their own business, detached from others.

Who would really remember others’ matters? Perhaps only Elder Xu was there, worrying deeply, while others were happily resuming their conversation, treating the earlier incident as a mere interlude, soon laughed off.

While eating and drinking, Elder Xu kept glancing at the door, hoping his daughter would burst in, as usual, lively and mischievous, teasing and setting traps for him, which delighted him. But now, she’s gone suddenly, leaving him anxious.

As Elder Xu anxiously waited, a few people suddenly came in through the door. This raised his already tense heart even higher because the people coming in were only bodyguards and Liu Yu, without his daughter’s shadow.

Worrying about what might happen, the bodyguard came before Elder Xu and said: "Elder Xu, we’ve searched the area but found no trace of Xu Ying. We don’t know where she went, worried we might miss the best chance, so we came back to report."

Elder Xu, infuriated: "You couldn’t find her, yet you came back? Regularly providing you food and drinks, but when it’s crucial, you drop the ball, useless. Hurry and search for her instead of standing here."

The bodyguard dared not say more, head lowered, scolded miserably and embarrassed, face flushed red, then turned and rushed out, continuing to search for Xu Ying.

Liu Yu also said to Elder Xu: "Sorry, Elder Xu, I chased out immediately but was just a step too late, didn’t see Xu Ying at all." Elder Xu said nothing; at this point, what could he say? He turned and saw Jiang Cheng still there, eating and drinking indifferently, which angered him greatly, his fury unrestrained, approaching Jiang Cheng directly.

"Jiang Cheng, this is too outrageous!" Elder Xu exclaimed with a heavy tone. "Why am I outrageous? Please enlighten me, Elder Xu." Jiang Cheng responded sharply, because he felt he didn’t do anything wrong; he did it completely for Xu Ying’s good, to prevent her from wasting her precious youth on him.

"Even plants have feelings. Isn’t there warm blood flowing through you? Normally, both Xu Ying and I treat you extraordinarily well, yet now Xu Ying is missing, and you sit here eating and drinking. Reflect honestly, can you face your conscience, can you face how Xu Ying usually treats you? She was gravely injured for you just a few days ago, and you repay her like this."

These were words Elder Xu spat out in rage, his voice loud, leaving Jiang Cheng embarrassed, but Jiang Cheng also understood Elder Xu. His daughter suddenly missing right before him would naturally lead to emotional distress.

Jiang Cheng said nothing, didn’t resist, but stood and walked towards the monitoring room, wanting to find answers from the surveillance footage.

This was Jiang Cheng’s special trait: upon entering the place, he had already meticulously scanned it all—where the restroom was, where the emergency exits were, where the monitoring room was.

This was Jiang Cheng’s cultivation of habits, ones that allowed him to escape crises time and time again. He knew such cultivation wasn’t something normal people practiced or learned, but he mastered it.
