Chapter 1473: Unexpected Complications
Chapter 1473 -1463: Unexpected Complications
Mengmeng finally saw a familiar face from the East District while in the Outer District and didn’t feel too repulsed, saying, “Yes, that’s right. I’m here with my boyfriend.” “Such a pity, how has a beauty like you already been claimed? How about you ditch your boyfriend and come with me instead?” The man said arrogantly.
Mengmeng, disgusted by the man in front of her, replied disdainfully, “Ha! You’re really overestimating yourself. My boyfriend is so great; I’d have to be insane to abandon him and settle for you, wouldn’t I? What a joke!” “You, young lady, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit!” The man said, a bit angrily.
Mengmeng didn’t take the man’s anger seriously and said, “You can’t even compare to a single strand of my boyfriend’s hair; it’s just ridiculous!
A man’s dignity cannot be provoked, especially by a girl who piques his interest. The expatriate grew furious, raising his hand as if to hit Mengmeng.
Jiang Cheng happened to see what was happening and immediately ran over to fling the man’s hand away.
“Are you okay, Mengmeng?” Jiang Cheng asked concernedly. Mengmeng was somewhat shocked and didn’t say anything.
Seeing this, Jiang Cheng raised his fist, preparing to hit the expatriate in the face. Mengmeng snapped back to reality and grabbed Jiang Cheng’s hand, saying, “We’re here to have fun, not to fight! For my sake, let’s not hit him, okay?”
“This man is bullying you! How can I stand by and do nothing?” Jiang Cheng asked.
Mengmeng smiled and said, “Aren’t I fine now? It’s okay, with you here, I won’t be in any trouble.”
After speaking, Mengmeng took Jiang Cheng’s hand and turned to leave. But the expatriate wasn’t willing to let it go and suddenly charged at Jiang Cheng’s back with a clenched fist.
The wind gusted through Jiang Cheng’s hair, making his scalp tingle. He realized the man was trained and thought quickly, stepping aside so the punch brushed past his nose by a centimeter.
At the same time, Jiang Cheng raised his elbow and swiftly aimed for the man’s face, but the man’s other hand quickly came up to block Jiang Cheng’s elbow.
Both moved swiftly, exchanging blows evenly matched. Jiang Cheng realized he was dealing with a formidable opponent. Given they were in an airport filled with tourists, chaos quickly broke out as many people took out phones to take pictures, some even starting live videos.
Airport security soon arrived and took Jiang Cheng and the man away, ending the airport drama. However, Jiang Cheng and Mengmeng’s trip to the Island District was truly ruined this time.
Now, Jiang Cheng was detained in a temporary holding cell. Jiang Cheng made his statement, while the man also gave his testimony, and both were locked up.
“Hey, can I make a call?”
“No,” came the straightforward refusal to Jiang Cheng’s request, leaving him quite frustrated, unsure of what to do.
Outside, Mengmeng understood the matter either way was serious, she hurried to pull the necessary strings to get Jiang Cheng released, fearing delays could make things worse.
Mengmeng spent a lot of money just to get a chance to see Jiang Cheng. Seeing him brought tears to her eyes, “It’s all my fault, all because of me.”
Jiang Cheng wiped away Mengmeng’s tears and said firmly, “Don’t cry, it’s not your fault. Listen, I have something important for you to do. You need to spend more money and buy off the guards watching me; I need to make a call. Only this call can get me out, so don’t delay, go take care of this quickly.”
Upon hearing Jiang Cheng’s instructions, Mengmeng wasted no time and left to carry out the task he entrusted to her. She understood the importance of Jiang Cheng’s words. After leaving, Mengmeng used various methods to fulfill the task given by Jiang Cheng, and soon everything was arranged. The saying “money makes the mare go” proved true here, as it does anywhere, even in the Island District.
“Here’s your phone, you have three minutes, then I’ll come for the phone.” Just as Jiang Cheng was pacing nervously in the holding cell, the glass window on the door opened, and a phone was passed through.
Jiang Cheng quickly grabbed the phone, knowing Mengmeng must have worked her connections, but he only had ten minutes, so he needed to make the most of it. He secretly prayed that the call would go through and someone would answer.
Jiang Cheng quickly dialed the number, then patiently waited as the dial tone rang. His heart was practically in his throat.
He knew this call was vital to his fate. “Hello! Who’s this?” Finally, the most pleasant voice Jiang Cheng had ever heard came through the line.
“Elder Xu, it’s me, you finally answered my call,” Jiang Cheng said a bit excitedly, feeling this was his most exhilarating moment and the sweetest time hearing Elder Xu’s voice.
“What’s going on?” Elder Xu, always discerning, immediately sensed that the call was unusual from Jiang Cheng’s tone.
This number couldn’t be traced elsewhere, not even via the internet. It was a dedicated line accessible only through Jiang Cheng’s phone and connected directly via satellite.
“Elder Xu, I had a physical altercation at the Island District airport with a man, and now I’m detained in a holding cell. I urgently need your influence to get me out of jail.” Jiang Cheng went straight to the point without wasting time, knowing he had only three minutes.
“Alright! Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it,” Elder Xu said as he hung up. Just then, the small glass window in the door swung open: “Pass the phone over, time’s up.”
Jiang Cheng quickly deleted the call records and handed the phone out since the contents couldn’t be seen by anyone else; it was a matter of life and death, a secret lifeline.
Having reached Elder Xu, Jiang Cheng felt reassured because if Elder Xu couldn’t resolve it, then he would truly be stuck. So, he sat on the bench and closed his eyes to relax.
Mengmeng, since Jiang Cheng’s detention, had found a hotel nearby to stay in. He knew of Jiang Cheng’s network of connections, and once that call was made, all he could do was wait.
Elder Xu showed remarkable efficiency, and within half a day, someone from the Hua Mansion intervened, negotiating with the Island District Holding Facility to bail Jiang Cheng out.
The Hua Mansion’s involvement brought an inexplicable sense of danger to the Island District authorities, suspecting Jiang Cheng was no ordinary individual. They quickly arranged to investigate Jiang Cheng’s background.
The Island District authorities acted swiftly, and soon a report on Jiang Cheng was delivered to a desk. At that time, upon reading the report, the chief was stupified and quickly dialed the holding facility’s phone.
Just as the personnel sent by the Hua Mansion were about to leave with Jiang Cheng, the phone on the head’s desk rang: “Hello!… Got it!”
The head put down the phone and looked out the window, noticing Jiang Cheng’s group about to leave the compound, and picked up the walkie-talkie: “Gate guards, stop them. I have a few more words to say.”
“Understood,” came the affirmative reply from the gate. The head showed a cunning smile, poured a cup of tea, slowly drank a few sips, checked the time, felt it was about right, and strolled out toward the entrance.
Being let out only to be stopped at the door was infuriating for Jiang Cheng, who was about to lash out at the guards when someone quickly held him back, “Don’t complicate things any further.”
