Chapter 595: Chapter 386: A Fleeting Moment, Forced Ascension

Wang Jue’s mind was extremely conflicted. Right now, he only had the "Nine Five Two Seven" Title quest. He definitely had to complete this quest, but he just felt a bit uncomfortable about it.

"Kid, what’s your name?" Big Head asked Wang Jue. He felt that this kid looked rather dense and absent-minded, probably not the brightest bulb.

"I am Fast Sword Ma San..." Wang Jue instinctively shouted out. Right after, he realized his mistake but couldn’t be bothered to correct it.

"Fast Sword Ma San?" Big Head narrowed his eyes and sized Wang Jue up. "Seeing how young you are, could it be that your Swordsmanship is quite good? Right, you wouldn’t have been able to get onto Cyan Wood Mountain without some skills. But since you’re just a servant disciple, your skills probably aren’t that great either! Tell me, why did Steward Qingyu recruit you to come up the mountain?"

"Because she’s my aunt!" Wang Jue figured that as a newcomer, it would be best to find a backer to save himself from getting picked on.

"What!" Big Head was startled. "Steward Qingyu is your aunt!"

"Yeah!"

Big Head slapped his forehead and immediately put on a smiling face. "So it’s Young Master Ma San! Forgive me for not welcoming you properly. Please, come right this way. Just up ahead is our small courtyard. Even though we’re servant disciples, we’re not usually that busy. Since you’ve just entered the sect, you can take a week or two to familiarize yourself first. There’s no need for you to do any work!"

"Is that so? I don’t need to work?" Hearing this, Wang Jue figured that his aloof aunt might actually have quite a high status on Cyan Wood Mountain. However, he waved his hand and said, "No, I want to chop wood!"

"What, chop wood?" Big Head was a bit baffled.

"Yes, chop wood!" Wang Jue walked straight ahead. "I want to work right now. Where’s the wood? I want to chop ten thousand logs!"

Big Head frowned. He wondered, "Is there something wrong with this Ma San’s head? No, I need to find Slave-driver Song and ask for the details. What exactly is this Ma San’s background? If he really is Steward Qingyu’s nephew, then I absolutely cannot offend him and must serve him carefully. But if he’s just someone Steward Qingyu took in out of the kindness of her heart, then I can confidently break him in..."

While Big Head was lost in thought, Wang Jue had already walked into the small courtyard. The small courtyard wasn’t large; one could take it all in at a single glance. The ground was paved with crushed stone, and it was surrounded by a bamboo fence. Inside the courtyard, there was a well, two rows of bamboo, several large vats, four rooms, and a shed.

Wang Jue casually looked around. The four rooms were a bedroom, a kitchen, a latrine, and a woodshed. Inside the bedroom was a large communal bed and a few bamboo poles serving as drying racks. The kitchen contained a large wooden table piled high with bowls and chopsticks. The latrine only had three squat pits—no Toilets—and a pungent stench. The woodshed was stacked with dry firewood. The shed was full of miscellaneous items, such as sickles, hammers, bamboo baskets, wooden basins, and so on.

"These living conditions are quite austere!" Wang Jue shook his head. This world had no modern facilities, and Mortal living conditions were very backward. However, Wang Jue was still quite particular. He had built Toilets and fired red bricks, at the very least making his small courtyard in Fire Willow Village very comfortable. Therefore, he felt quite disgusted with this current small courtyard, but for the sake of Cultivation, he could endure it.

Wang Jue.

"From now on, you’ll be running with me. My full name is Xu Wenqiang. You can call me Brother Qiang. You’re the sixth member in our courtyard, so from now on, you’ll be Little Six. Let me tell you, as a servant disciple, you just wait—"

Wang Jue.

"Hmm?" Jiang Muyun frowned deeply.

Wang Jue’s face looked a bit awkward. He let out a dry laugh, turned around, and bolted.

Three minutes later, a system prompt suddenly rang out in his mind: "DING! ’Model Student’ storyline advanced. Received the approval of Jiang Muyun, an instructor of the Cyan Wood Inner Academy. Please keep up the good work!"

"It worked! Haha, it seems Jiang Muyun really cares about Auntie, doesn’t he? Is he actually going to go confess his feelings?" Wang Jue was overjoyed.

A moment later, he spotted Inner Academy Instructor Lu Buping in front of the Spirit Book Pavilion. This Lu Buping was tall and strapping, sporting a full beard and a robust physique. He used to be a famous suitor of Shen Qingyu, but had been publicly rejected by her several times. It was unknown whether he still had feelings for her now.

With a "let’s give it a try" mindset, Wang Jue stepped forward, bowed, and said, "Instructor Lu!"

Surprisingly, Lu Buping recognized Wang Jue. "You’re... Shen Qingyu’s nephew. What was your name again?"

Wang Jue hurriedly replied, "Disciple Ma San... Oh wait, Disciple Wang Jue!"

"Right, right, right, Wang Jue. Yes, I remember your name. Why did you stop me?"

Wang Jue said, "My aunt said..."

Lu Buping glared at him. "Stop, don’t mention Shen Qingyu to me! She and I are finished. I’m never going to look for her again, got it?"

Wang Jue nodded and hurriedly said, "Right, right, right! As the saying goes, ’there are plenty of fish in the sea, so why fixate on a single flower?’ That aunt of mine is cold as ice. What’s so good about her?"

"Oh? You’re quite an interesting kid! ’Plenty of fish in the sea’—well said! Then tell me, where are these other fish?" Lu Buping patted Wang Jue’s shoulder. Wang Jue felt like he had just been bumped into by a giant grizzly bear and nearly toppled over.

He gave a sheepish smile and said, "This disciple thinks that Instructor Miaoling from the Inner Academy is quite nice. She has a much better figure!"

"Haha!" Lu Buping laughed heartily and patted Wang Jue’s shoulder twice more. "Great minds think alike!"

Wang Jue felt like his body was about to fall apart. Cupping his hands, he hastily took his leave. He had barely walked fifty meters when he received another system prompt: "DING! Received the approval of Inner Academy Instructor Lu Buping. ’Model Student’ quest completed. Distributing quest rewards..."

"DING! Congratulations to the Player for obtaining the ’Model Student’ Title!"

"DING! Congratulations to the Player for obtaining a Spirit Treasure, ’Certificate of Merit’! It has been automatically Refined into your body!"

"Haha, it actually issued me a Certificate of Merit! How fun, how fun!"
