Street Hustler and His Policewoman Wife
Chapter 688: Codename, Wen!
"We don’t know each other."
The man who arrived responded with a light chuckle as he walked into the room.
After scanning the room with his eyes, he began to introduce himself:
"You can call me Wen. As for my real name, I’m sorry... I can’t tell you."
"But regarding my identity, what I can say is, you’re investigating a case, and I am too, only we’re investigating in different directions."
Their introduction wasn’t lengthy, just those few sentences.
But those few sentences were enough for Chen Xiao to know the other person’s identity.
The man called "Wen" in front of him seemed to be investigating the murder case focusing on Yuan Keyu’s status as a top scholar.
However, since it involved this level, there was no way Chen Xiao would simply believe whatever the man said.
"You came to see me, is there something you need?"
"I want to exchange some information with you," Wen replied.
Chen Xiao shook his head straightforwardly: "I need to verify your identity. It’s impossible for me to believe just because you claim something."
Wen grinned and then pulled out a badge.
The badge’s cover seemed not much different from a police badge, but the department marked on it was worlds apart from the police department.
Chen Xiao took just one look; although he couldn’t confirm the authenticity, he was very aware that the man named Wen was not an ordinary person, nor an ordinary policeman.
Because Wen’s appearance had occurred in such a short period that Chen Xiao hadn’t noticed it at all.
This was a very dangerous signal for Chen Xiao, who has always been self-confident and vigilant.
So when the other party put away the badge, Chen Xiao asked a seemingly unrelated question:
"Have you trained?"
Wen obviously didn’t expect Chen Xiao to ask such a question. After a moment’s pause, he nodded and said:
"Trained in some fancy footwork."
"Are you very skilled? How many can you take on?"
"Not many, seven or eight with some minor training shouldn’t hurt me. I mean those who have had some training."
Chen Xiao squinted his eyes:
"Shall we try?"
"Can we sit down and talk after that?"
"We can talk anytime, it’s just that the way you showed up made me very wary, so I want to test the waters."
Wen thought for a while and finally made a gesture, inviting: "How about we see whose fist is harder?"
"Sure."
Chen Xiao had seen several Practitioners.
Like Li Jindao and Huang Hao.
Except self-proclaimed invincible Huang Hao couldn’t do much in front of Chen Xiao.
So Chen Xiao had always been curious about the extent of his strength after repeated rewards from the calendar.
Of course, he also admitted he was being somewhat unproductive at the moment.
But he felt that anyone who had experienced what he did would have the irresistible urge to test things out.
Soon, both of them had turned off their relaxed expressions.
Wen threw a punch.
Chen Xiao threw one as well.
Chen Xiao didn’t understand why novels would describe the sound of fists colliding.
Because at this moment, he could feel Wen’s strength, but there was no sound when their fists met.
Chen Xiao shook his sore fist while keeping a close eye on Wen’s reaction.
Thank goodness.
The latter had already retracted his hand, and his expression even changed.
He looked at Chen Xiao incredulously while enduring the pain, exclaiming:
"Damn, how did you train? How long have you been training? It’s so hard!"
"Your questions don’t matter; what’s important is that I finally enjoyed it!" Chen Xiao grinned.
Wen’s expression couldn’t help but become interested:
"You know my department, and you’re not only good at solving cases but also skilled; if you’re interested... "
Chen Xiao didn’t let him finish, interrupting directly:
"I’m not interested in your work in the slightest, but I respect what you do. After all, compared to the police, sometimes you sacrifice even more."
On Wen’s face, there was a rare genuine smile different from before.
This smile, in Chen Xiao’s eyes, had a sincere flavor.
"It’s a pity. If you were willing, I think the code name Wu would be thrilled."
Wen’s self-reference, Chen Xiao naturally understood, was just a codename, a cover for his real identity!
It’s just a pity that Chen Xiao was losing interest at this point:
"I’m interested in you only because I’m curious about myself, and now I seem to have some understanding, so I don’t want to know much about the code name Wu. Respect is respect, but I don’t want to get too involved with you."
Wen nodded: "That’s right, from seeing your file, I know you love life very much. Loving life is indeed not very suitable for our line of work."
With that, Wen sat down and returned to the main topic:
"Let’s talk about the main issue. Just now when I came in, I seemed to hear you say someone was lying. Who was that person?"
Chen Xiao frowned: "I don’t know how you handle interrogations after catching people, nor do I understand your views on evidence, so I can’t tell you."
"So you’re not completely certain that the person you’re suspecting is lying, correct?"
Chen Xiao nodded: "That’s right, and since you’ve investigated me, you know I only arrived in Xiaozhuang South Town a few hours ago, so I’m far less familiar with this case than you are."
Hearing Chen Xiao’s explanation, Wen’s demeanor relaxed a little.
But soon, Wen somewhat frustratingly said:
"I think the reason this case happened doesn’t have much to do with my line of work. But Professor Yuan’s identity was really too sensitive, and his sudden death is alarming."
"I understand, but can you tell me what you’ve investigated so far?"
Wen didn’t hesitate and seriously said:
"As soon as the news of Professor Yuan’s death came, I received orders to investigate. But through my investigation during this period, I haven’t found anyone abroad trying to harm Professor Yuan. However, due to Professor Yuan’s death, we did capture a few spies lurking domestically."
"Unfortunately, the investigation showed they were indeed unrelated to Professor Yuan’s death."
When Wen said the word ’spy,’ Chen Xiao felt a sense of detachment from real life.
But the word ’spy’ only distances itself from ordinary people’s lives.
The work of investigating spies has never stopped.
And Yuan Keyu’s identity destined that his death would lead to this kind of investigation.
As for the results of the investigation, they weren’t much different from Chen Xiao’s earlier speculation.
Yuan Keyu’s death likely had little to do with hostile forces.
If that’s the case, then it can temporarily be assumed that the case likely arose due to some very hidden relationships of the deceased himself.
But just as Chen Xiao wanted to continue discussing the espionage investigation with Wen, Qin Fei hurriedly ran back.
"Chen Xiao, we’ve found it!"
Qin Fei exclaimed in surprise, only to notice Wen’s presence after speaking, and unexpectedly asked: "Who is this gentleman?"
