Street Hustler and His Policewoman Wife
Chapter 675: Experiencing the Locked Room!
After Cao Xiuyuan left the cafeteria, he directly left Shencheng City and continued on to Xiaozhuang South Town.
Chen Xiao and Qin Fei needed to arrange matters in Shencheng City.
But apart from handling Zhu Nianying’s disappearance case, Qin Fei was keenly aware that Chen Xiao was helping him for that new piece of prime land.
Even though he was just a captain in the police force, Qin Fei still needed to do his utmost to help Chen Xiao compete.
This was an unspoken understanding between them, something both were aware of but never vocalized.
Chen Xiao also needed to wait for Qin Fei to make arrangements, and then plan with Guo Qing.
Qin Fei busied himself further.
After breakfast, Chen Xiao returned to Guo Qing’s residence.
The latter had not slept the whole night.
As soon as he saw Chen Xiao return, Guo Qing immediately approached him.
"How’s it going? Does Captain Qin really have some formidable tricks up his sleeve to help us?"
Chen Xiao had heard about Qin Fei’s connections from Xie Wensheng.
Moreover, even Xie Wensheng only mentioned possibilities and hearsay over the phone.
So, aside from Qin Fei himself or his family, probably few knew his real background and connections.
Seeing the anticipation on Guo Qing’s face, Chen Xiao smiled and said,
"Do your best and leave the rest to fate. Besides, there’s still some time before the bidding for the new prime land, so use these days to consolidate our resources."
Hearing this, Guo Qing visibly relaxed.
"When you put it that way, I feel much more assured. Don’t worry, I understand the principle of not biting off more than I can chew, and I’ll sincerely cooperate with the Qi Family."
"That’s good." Chen Xiao nodded.
Guo Qing seemed hesitant, but after a moment, he added,
"Chen Xiao, according to your previous deduction, my uncle probably isn’t in any trouble. His call was likely just to mislead Huang Hao and his Sacred Heart Church."
"But now that Huang Hao has been captured, why can’t I reach my uncle still?"
"Not being able to reach him is a good sign. If Grandpa Guo really had any mishap, do you think such news could be kept secret?"
"That’s true enough."
Guo Qing stopped asking.
Chen Xiao didn’t have much worry in his heart.
However, to say there was no worry at all would be untrue.
Reasoning, after all, is just reasoning; judgment, ultimately just judgment.
Now, Guo Zhengchang’s whereabouts were unknown.
Xiaoji and Black Cat were also missing.
Until he saw them, Chen Xiao couldn’t assure that they were safe.
But Pan Huiping was helping Chen Xiao search for Xiaoji and Black Cat.
As for Guo Zhengchang, if he chose not to reveal himself, there was nothing Chen Xiao could do.
Shaking off those thoughts temporarily, Chen Xiao realized he needed to call Lin Xi to inform him about the upcoming trip to Zhushan.
When he dialed, Lin Xi picked up quickly.
They had exchanged brief news by phone last night about the case being solved.
So, at that moment, Lin Xi was already on an early flight back to Dongzhou.
"Hey, you calling to tell me you won’t be back anytime soon?"
Lin Xi guessed the topic right away.
Chen Xiao responded with a wry smile, "If what Brother Sheng heard is not just rumors, then Qin Fei is indeed someone who can help me."
"Yeah, someone keeps saying they’ll live off me when they get promoted, yet they’re out there slogging away. Remember to eat well and rest while you’re away, don’t be solely consumed with work."
Listening to Lin Xi’s words, Chen Xiao couldn’t help but grin,
"Got it, Captain Lin. But before you hang up, I’m headed next to Zhushan City in East Province, and this case isn’t ordinary."
"In what way?"
"This time, the victim is a returning top scholar involved in a locked room murder mystery. From the victim’s identity to the crime type, it’s all new to me."
As a public servant,
Lin Xi could deduce the weight of the case from his words.
"The case hasn’t been publicly announced yet, has it?"
"No, currently almost all the renowned police elites in East Province have gathered to form a task force."
Lin Xi didn’t immediately reply but paused for a few seconds before saying,
"Actually, having too many experts together isn’t always good, especially for cases like this. If it’s not solved soon, higher-ups won’t really criticize. But if it cracks, it’s a huge credit. So, unity within the task force isn’t simply achieved."
"Of course, this case has to be cracked, given the unusual status of the victim. The implications could be vast, making it a matter of time."
Chen Xiao understood what Lin Xi meant.
It was advice for Chen Xiao not to get too entangled with the task force members.
He was from Jiang Province, Dongzhou,
and belonged to none of the cities in East Province.
So if the case was solved, the credit wouldn’t mean much to Chen Xiao.
If he had a fallout with someone there, he’d end up working tirelessly for little gain.
"Don’t worry, knowing the limits isn’t tough for me. But, dear wife, let’s discuss whether there’s indeed a perfect locked room murder mystery in this world?"
Chen Xiao was genuinely intrigued.
He had reviewed the case files; though Su Rian didn’t delve deeply, at a glance, he didn’t spot any issues.
Yuan Keyu seemed to truly have died in a locked room.
"Perfect locked room murders are rare, I never believed they existed. Any seeming perfection in such cases is really just about a missing key point not being found."
Saying so, Lin Xi chuckled wryly,
"Of course, saying it is easier than finding that crucial point."
Chen Xiao agreed, "Too bad we can only chat; I can’t reveal the case details, otherwise, we could ponder together."
"I wouldn’t ponder, it’s a confidential case; I won’t listen!"
Chen Xiao laughed, "Alright, your flight must be taking off soon? Work hard upon return, help me attain that comfy living sooner."
Lin Xi directly hung up.
Chen Xiao chuckled but nurtured the thought of experiencing a real locked room scenario.
At this thought, he instinctively pulled out his phone to find Old Gui’s contact.
Just as he was about to call, he stopped abruptly.
"Ah, Old Gui is indeed an excellent assistant; he handles everything perfectly, what a pity!"
With that lament, Chen Xiao dialed another person’s number.
The person on the other line, upon receiving Chen Xiao’s call, sounded almost tearfully happy:
"Bro, my dear brother, finally you called me!"
Liu Dayou, with his feigned voice, made Chen Xiao not bother with pleasantries, telling him straight:
"Book a flight to Provincial City in East Province, preferably tomorrow morning, we’ll meet up in East Province."
"Okay, brother, I’ll check tickets right away!"
After the call, Chen Xiao turned and left the residence again.
He thought that finding a locked room similar to the one Yuan Keyu rented might be easier by asking Qin Fei’s parents!
