Chapter 610: Go Ahead and Sue!

When Chen Xiao sat down again.

Jin Peng was no longer as arrogant and sharp as before.

It seemed he had come to terms with some realities, and his tone became more even.

"Chen Xiao, it’s only been a short while since you last came to see me. You must want to talk to me about matters between colleagues, don’t you?"

Jin Peng was never a fool.

Even though his big move had only just been made, its damage was completely dodged by Chen Xiao with a quick maneuver.

But, this only meant that in this round, Chen Xiao had the upper hand.

Noting that Jin Peng’s attitude had mellowed considerably, Chen Xiao spoke bluntly:

"What kind of person is the murderer you saw?"

"I didn’t see his appearance clearly."

"I know, he doesn’t have any distinct physical features either. But you should know what I’m asking."

Jin Peng paused, then slightly lifted his gaze, and his eyes became focused.

He was thinking, and recalling what he saw that night.

"The encounter can only be described as a stroke of luck. By then, it was already past 11 PM when I happened to pass by the alley and saw two figures, one following the other, ahead of me."

"There was a streetlight in the alley. Despite its poor brightness, I could make out the woman’s appearance in front of me. And the woman seemed to have noticed the person behind her, as she kept looking back while walking."

"The assailant never turned his head; his pace was swift. If I hadn’t studied the routes in that area beforehand, I might have lost him."

"From my following, I could tell that the other person was very familiar with the area. After knocking the victim unconscious, he put her in a canvas bag and easily moved through the streets and alleys."

"Furthermore, he must have been a strong person. Although the woman was petite, she weighed at least over 40 kilograms. Carrying someone like that and moving around the alley without any hesitation shows significant strength."

"However, his appearance didn’t seem particularly muscular; he was nearly 1.8 meters tall, and from my observation, weighed less than 70 kilograms."

"A man over 1.7 meters tall but weighing less than 140 jin is not particularly brawny."

"Are you saying his physique is likely trained?" Chen Xiao asked.

Jin Peng nodded without hesitation, "Yes, I have a feeling his body has been honed for strength!"

Chen Xiao silently noted these characteristics and then asked, "When you followed them to the old house, did you hear a woman scream?"

"No, not a single sound! And he didn’t even turn on the lights!"

"How long did he take to come out after taking Zhu Nianying into the house?"

This question made Jin Peng turn to look at Chen Xiao: "It should have been over half an hour."

"Such a long time, and it was late at night, with not a single light on in the house?"

"I’m sure, none."

"And not a single sound?"

"No..." Jin Peng blurted out, but before he finished, a look of horror spread across his face.

Chen Xiao shrugged, helplessly saying: "Seems talking to you was somewhat useful; at least through chatting, I slowly realized you might have been tricked by the other side."

Jin Peng widened his eyes and was momentarily speechless.

Conversely, Chen Xiao remained calm, even offering some comfort: "When you’re in the thick of it, you can’t see clearly, while outsiders have a clear view. It’s not uncommon for anyone to be led astray."

"Thank you."

"No need, I’m just stating the facts. Mainly, because your original intention wasn’t to solve the case, but to make a future investment for your own benefit."

"With impure objectives, it’s easier to fall for traps."

As Chen Xiao spoke, Jin Peng could only smile bitterly.

Chen Xiao did not ask further questions but instead focused on the key points, asking seriously:

"One more question, do you recall what Zhu Nianying was wearing at the time?"

"Yes, jeans and casual wear."

"What about her shoes?"

"Shoes?" Jin Peng was suddenly dumbfounded.

Chen Xiao couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed; it seemed Jin Peng hadn’t noticed Zhu Nianying’s shoes.

Indeed, those with impure objectives find it challenging to cover all aspects of a case.

As Chen Xiao got up again, Jin Peng watched his retreating back, unsure of what he was thinking, and suddenly rushed to say:

"Are you leaving already?"

"You want me to stay and chat longer?"

"That’s not what I meant; I just feel we have a lot more to talk about concerning that murder case."

Chen Xiao turned his head: "What else do you think we can discuss?"

"If the deceased isn’t Zhu Nianying, what is the relationship between the real victim and the murderer? And what kind of person is the murderer? Why did he kill so many people?"

"Is he a psychopath, or is there a connection between the victim and Zhu Nianying? You must have a lot of clues, right? If so, why don’t we have an open discussion? The more minds, the better, and maybe I can offer some good insights too!"

Jin Peng wasn’t wrong.

The reason Chen Xiao came to see him did include such considerations.

Solving a case can be a solo effort, but more often than not, it requires the power of a group.

However, the questions Jin Peng raised were not ones Chen Xiao wished to explore with him.

To be direct, Chen Xiao had already discussed these matters with Director Fang earlier.

"When you come up with more critical questions, feel free to notify the police at the city bureau to contact me. Rest assured, if the questions you raise are important enough, I’ll sit down with you again for a good talk."

After saying this, Chen Xiao turned and left the interrogation room.

He didn’t stay at the city bureau but drove to the site of the old house.

He still felt that Jin Peng wasn’t a person of poor ability. Something must have been amiss in that old house, or else it couldn’t have fooled Jin Peng completely.

For instance, did that old house ever have a basement?

Although the old house had been demolished and rebuilt, who was its previous owner?

Whose hands had the house passed through? These are all questions that can be investigated.

However, upon reaching the site of the old house, Chen Xiao, looking at the brand new neighborhood, did not feel optimistic.

After wandering around the neighborhood, Chen Xiao received a call from an unknown number on his phone.

"Hello, this is Chen Xiao."

"Chen Xiao? Your last name is Chen! What is your relationship with my aunt? I warn you, everything I have obtained is legal and compliant, and if you’re bothered by it, feel free to sue. I wouldn’t be afraid of you even if it went to the Imperial Capital!"
