Street Hustler and His Policewoman Wife

Chapter 593: They’ve Made Their Move!

Master Liu finished speaking.

A silence settled in the clinic.

What he said about Zhu Nianying’s actions completely changed Huang Zhao’s perception of her.

But can just one incident count for much?

To Huang Zhao, he already regarded Zhu Nianying as close as a daughter or niece.

Moreover, if Zhu Nianying’s classmate, who admires Kang Mao, wasn’t lying,

then all of Zhu Nianying’s thoughts were mistaken.

She didn’t need to do anything; eventually, Huang Zhao’s traditional Chinese medicine clinic would be hers.

Why was Chen Xiao so sure?

From Huang Zhao’s current reaction,

and everything Huang Zhao did after Zhu Nianying’s incident, it was clear.

He had high hopes for Zhu Nianying.

If he didn’t have high hopes, Huang Zhao wouldn’t have used the favor Chen Xiao owed him to investigate the mystery of Zhu Nianying’s disappearance.

Let alone dragging his old body to Zhu He Village, where he was detained for many days.

All these actions showed that Huang Zhao truly regarded Zhu Nianying as his successor.

Chen Xiao had no intention of mentioning Zhu Nianying’s pregnancy at this moment, instead, he glanced at Master Liu, who had many silver needles in his back as he lay on the examination table, and asked:

"Master Liu, does that hospital still exist?"

Master Liu understood which hospital he meant.

Unfortunately, he shook his head and said, "No longer."

"What about the doctor from back then?"

Master Liu paused, shaking his head, "I’m not very familiar with him. We always communicated through her, now which hospital she’s working at or anything else, I’m not very sure."

Beside them, Huang Zhao found their conversation clear, yet it sounded like an enigma to him.

Which hospital?

What doctor?

"What are you talking about?" Huang Zhao asked.

With a smile, Chen Xiao replied, "Nothing much, I was just confused about something and wanted Master Liu to clarify it."

Huang Zhao skeptically furrowed his eyebrows, then asked, "Mr. Xiaochen, does Nianying transferring money to her brother mean she wanted to lead him astray? But no matter how astray, what kind of revenge would this serve?"

"I’ve met him before; her brother didn’t need anything, yet he was a useless person!"

Huang Zhao had a very poor impression of the Zhu Family.

After all, he was sold out by the Zhu Family, then imprisoned by Chang Quezi, leading to the debt of 5000 yuan for Zhu Nianying’s escape from marriage.

"Her brother died, driving drunk and fell into the river, drowning."

Chen Xiao revealed the final fate of Zhu Nianbing.

Huang Zhao, wide-eyed and mouth agape, exclaimed, "He’s dead?"

"Yes, before Zhu Nianying’s incident, she often sent money to Zhu Nianbing. Sometimes a few thousand, sometimes tens of thousands. After suddenly coming into money, Zhu Nianbing lost his way and completely went down the wrong path."

"From then on, he drank and played cards every day, without any respect for other matters. Whether drowning or getting caught, one could say Zhu Nianying’s goal was achieved."

Huang Zhao was momentarily speechless.

As Zhu Nianying’s mentor, he understood her temperament well.

But it was precisely because of this understanding that his heart was so shaken.

"This isn’t something Nianying would do. Although she was not particularly sociable and often had a ’keep away’ demeanor, this doesn’t mean she was someone cold-blooded who disregarded life. It doesn’t seem like her at all."

Huang Zhao muttered to himself.

Chen Xiao thought perhaps this was Huang Zhao’s benevolence as an old traditional Chinese medicine doctor.

Or rather, to put it directly, Huang Zhao’s experiences left him with a bit of a compassionate heart.

Chen Xiao didn’t bother to explain this issue.

Looking at Master Liu once again, he felt that all the questions he wanted to ask had been asked.

But for some reason, looking at Master Liu in front of him, he felt there were still many things left unaddressed.

After some thought, Chen Xiao said to Huang Zhao, "Elder Huang, may I have a private chat with Master Liu?"

Huang Zhao hesitated, then nodded, "Alright, I’ll step out. I’ll be back in about ten minutes; Master Liu should have his needles removed then."

"Okay."

Chen Xiao replied, and Huang Zhao walked out.

Upon hearing this, Master Liu asked, "Mr. Chen, is there anything else you want to ask me?"

"You’re really not familiar with the doctor who performed the abortion for Zhu Nianying? I’ve investigated some of President Zhuang’s methods; he’s a very cautious person. From the history of his rise, it’s clear he maintained a high level of vigilance toward anyone around him."

"You’re his driver; if it were only for one or two years, it might be nothing, but over ten years, you would be aware of some of his habits, right?"

The implication of Chen Xiao’s words was this: President Zhuang was highly vigilant towards strangers, while Master Liu, as his driver for over a decade,

was undoubtedly someone whom President Zhuang trusted with his life.

To Master Liu, President Zhuang was more than just an employer.

As a driver who served President Zhuang for over ten years, besides the salary, President Zhuang himself must have been someone he admired greatly.

Much like Guo Qing and Old Gui.

In Old Gui’s daily life, his admiration for Guo Qing often led to similarities in their habits.

Similarly, Master Liu would have picked up some of the positive traits from President Zhuang.

So, Chen Xiao thought a doctor who aborted President Zhuang’s child shouldn’t be unfamiliar to Master Liu.

He must have investigated!

Sure enough, when Chen Xiao asked, Master Liu’s eyes wavered.

Finally, with a sigh, he replied:

"Mr. Chen, you truly have an insightful eye that sees into the heart!"

"Exactly, I did investigate that doctor."

"And you hid this earlier because you were afraid Huang Zhao would try to contact him?"

Master Liu nodded, "Indeed, Elder Huang’s protective feelings for his beloved disciple, Mr. Chen might only have heard but never witnessed. So, I had to keep this information hidden earlier."

"Then now, you can speak freely."

"That doctor has already passed away, a year before President Zhuang died. He had a major medical accident and, unable to bear the pressure, jumped from the top floor of their hospital."

"That hospital ended up bankrupt following the lawsuit caused by his medical accident."

As Master Liu finished, Chen Xiao immediately furrowed his brows.

Another death?

Chen Xiao first sought out Zhu Nianbing, only to find he was dead.

Then he heard about President Zhuang, wanted to contact him, but he was dead too.

Now, finally wanting to shift focus to the doctor, Master Liu informed him that the doctor was also dead!

At this moment, Chen Xiao didn’t ask any further questions.

He just felt the consecutive deaths of three important figures gave him a very uneasy feeling.

But he couldn’t quite pin down where this feeling was coming from for now.

As Chen Xiao pondered this issue, Old Gui knocked on the clinic’s door.

After Chen Xiao said "Come in," Old Gui entered, his face serious, and said:

"Mr. Chen, President Guo called... they made a move!"
