Chapter 96: Chapter 96: We Are Not From the Same World
Ling Qianjun immediately looked at Hua Buwan.
The exact second Chen Jingjing spotted Ling Qianjun, Hua Buwan mentally broke down.
She blamed her own fast fingers. She had tapped the video call button without looking closely, and didn’t even have time to tell Ling Qianjun to step aside out of the frame.
But Chen Jingjing was really something too. How did her imagination run so wild? She actually thought the two of them had... slept together last night?
She cried inwardly, "I’m completely innocent!"
"No, no, he’s just my friend! His outfit is just cosplay, and he only just got here. It’s not what you think. You misunderstood, Jingjing." Hua Buwan pointed at Ling Qianjun and pressed her hands together in a pleading gesture.
Chen Jingjing clicked her tongue. "TSK, TSK. Everything starts with being friends. I get it, I get it."
Ling Qianjun spoke up at this moment. "Miss, you have misunderstood. I am truly nothing more than Buwan’s friend. I only arrived here around noon, just a moment ago."
"Wow! That voice. May I ask, handsome, are you a voice actor? Do you know Mr. Bian?" Chen Jingjing’s eyes sparkled the moment she heard Ling Qianjun speak. She thought to herself, "Hua Buwan really outdid herself. She found a handsome guy with good looks, a great figure, and a nice voice to boot. What a premium catch!"
"Mr. Bian? My apologies, I do not know him." Ling Qianjun shook his head, having no idea who Chen Jingjing was talking about.
Chen Jingjing had just asked casually and didn’t actually care about the answer. "Oh, never mind then."
Hua Buwan took two steps forward, physically blocking Ling Qianjun, and tilted her phone screen away so it wouldn’t capture him. "Alright, alright, stop teasing my friend. He just dropped by the supermarket to buy some things."
Ling Qianjun smiled from the sidelines. He turned and walked over to the shelves to grab his items, not wanting to disturb Hua Buwan and her friend’s conversation.
"Ooh, protecting him already? Are you really just friends? Is there absolutely no possibility?" Chen Jingjing rested her chin on her hand and blinked slyly.
Hua Buwan walked over to the counter and sat down, shaking her head. "That’s impossible. We’re not even from the same world."
Ling Qianjun, who was reaching for a bottle of mineral water, paused his steps.
Chen Jingjing also sat back on her hotel sofa and spoke softly, "You mean the anime world? Even if you don’t cosplay, you still watch anime, like Sakura, Doraemon, Gaara, and Chopper... right? You guys definitely still have common ground."
Hua Buwan raised her eyes and glanced toward the back of the shelves. "Not the anime world." She knew full well it was a world from a thousand years ago.
"Sigh, I don’t know then. Anyway, I still say you should live in the present. No one knows which will come tomorrow—a pleasant surprise or an accident. What if?" Chen Jingjing said with genuine emotion.
Hua Buwan trembled slightly. That was true. What if?
It felt as if a tiny seed had broken through the soil of her heart, sprouting a fresh, tender shoot.
"Wanwanzi, let’s cancel our afternoon plans. You should get some good rest. I have to accompany my parents to meet some friends later anyway. Seeing that I didn’t go out, they made plans with someone, and it’d be rude of me not to go. We’ll hang out next time." Chen Jingjing yawned. "I need to catch up on some sleep now before I head out later."
Seeing that Chen Jingjing wasn’t just making excuses to give them alone time, Hua Buwan agreed. "Alright, let’s hang out next time. But I really owe you an apology for today. I just thought of something—give me your hotel address, and I’ll have an express courier send it over right away to make it up to you."
Chen Jingjing didn’t decline. She grinned and said, "Then I won’t hold back."
They then ended the video call, and Chen Jingjing sent her the hotel address.
Hua Buwan packaged the item and ordered a courier.
Only then did Ling Qianjun step out from behind the shelves with his items.
