Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Chen Jingjing Discovers Ling Qianjun
Hua Buwan slept until she woke up naturally. Had the sunlight outside her window not shone directly on her face, she wouldn’t have bothered getting up at all.
It had been a restless sleep. She had been dreaming all night, right up until the moment she woke. She dreamt of the hardships Ling Qianjun and his group would face on their journey to exile, and dreamt of herself following them—dying, being reborn, and dying all over again.
Even now, as she dragged herself out of bed, Hua Buwan’s mind felt sluggish and groggy. It was an awful feeling.
"What time is it?" Hua Buwan muttered while fumbling around her pillow. "Huh, where is my phone?"
Failing to find her phone, Hua Buwan finally snapped out of her daze a little. After searching the entire second floor to no avail, she hurried downstairs to the supermarket on the first floor.
Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, the automated voice at the back door chimed, "Welcome." Ling Qianjun opened the door and walked in.
"Ah? You’re here so early?" Hua Buwan looked at Ling Qianjun in surprise. She didn’t break her stride as she made a beeline for the checkout counter, where she spotted her phone lying flat on the surface. She quickly picked it up.
Ling Qianjun swept his gaze over Hua Buwan. With her light yellow maxi dress, messy hair, and dazed expression... she had clearly just woken up.
He chuckled softly. "It is not early. It is already the hour for afternoon rest. I came over after having my meal."
"What? It’s noon already?!" Hua Buwan cried out in astonishment. Her hand trembled around her phone.
The moment the screen lit up, a flood of messages from Chen Jingjing filled the display, alongside a barrage of missed voice and video calls.
Hua Buwan grabbed her hair in dismay. "I’m dead, I’m so dead. How could I forget something so important? Chen Jingjing is going to murder me."
One second Ling Qianjun was smiling, but the next, his gaze turned razor-sharp. He strode over to Hua Buwan’s side and asked with grave seriousness, "Who is trying to kill you?"
Hua Buwan suddenly found herself enveloped by a towering shadow, a chilling aura radiating from the man looming over her. She looked up into Ling Qianjun’s worried eyes and hastily explained, "I just forgot that I made plans to hang out with a friend today! She’s been waiting this whole time and couldn’t reach me. I’m pretty sure she wants to strangle me right now, or at least beat me up."
Ling Qianjun finally understood. Hearing her explanation, the deadly, murderous aura rolling off his body slowly receded. He had just been thinking that if anyone dared to make an attempt on Hua Buwan’s life, he would slaughter them first! Fortunately, he had overthought the matter.
By this point, Hua Buwan no longer had the time to pay attention to Ling Qianjun’s expression. She scrolled through Chen Jingjing’s messages one by one, growing increasingly panicked with every line. Cold sweat began to bead on her forehead.
When she reached the final text—*Hua Buwan, you are so dead!*—her vision practically swam with darkness.
She knew she had messed up. She shouldn’t have forgotten her plans with Chen Jingjing, and she definitely shouldn’t have left her phone downstairs. If she had brought it up to the second floor, she absolutely would have heard it ringing.
Without another moment of hesitation, Hua Buwan frantically dialed Chen Jingjing.
But the moment she tapped the screen, she realized something was terribly wrong! Her hand had slipped! She accidentally hit the video call button! Before she could cancel it, Chen Jingjing had already picked up, making it impossible for Hua Buwan to hang up now without making things worse.
The second the call connected, Chen Jingjing unleashed a torrent of furious complaints!
"Hua Buwan! So you *do* remember how to call me! Why the hell are you playing hide-and-seek with me all day?! We clearly agreed to meet up this morning!
"I even came to your supermarket this morning and yelled for you! You didn’t even respond! WAAAH, my fragile little heart has suffered severe emotional damage! I’m so sad, I’m so heartbroken...
"Wait a minute... who’s the hottie standing next to you?!"
