Chapter 84: Chapter 84: I Came to a Thousand Years Ago

Ling Qianjun reached his hand through first, then guided Hua Buwan’s arm across. Hua Buwan watched her arm slowly pass through the Any Door, and then... nothing happened. Her body remained stuck on the spot.

Ling Qianjun quickly phased back through. "I need to clear the way in front and bring up the rear," he said. "That’s the only way you can pass through completely."

Hua Buwan realized the logic behind this. She looked at Ling Qianjun, crossed her arms over her chest, and hugged herself tightly. "Alright, come on. Try to take me through."

Hua Buwan imagined Ling Qianjun imitating a crab, using one hand to lead the way and the other to support her back. This way, she could pass through the Any Door while completely sandwiched in his grasp. She hugged herself to shrink her profile as much as possible, making it easier for him to maneuver.

Ling Qianjun’s earlobes turned slightly red. He bowed his head slightly to Hua Buwan and said, "Forgive me."

Hua Buwan shook her head. "It’s fine. Let’s hurry up and cross."

"Alright," Ling Qianjun agreed, stepping up beside her.

However, in the next second, Ling Qianjun unexpectedly swept Hua Buwan up into his arms, carrying her bridal style. Caught off guard, Hua Buwan let out a startled cry, "AH!"

As she cried out, Ling Qianjun’s hands trembled slightly. Terrified that she might have startled him into dropping her, Hua Buwan immediately fell silent and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck.

Ling Qianjun looked down at her just as she looked up at him. Their eyes met. His earlobes flushed bright red in an instant, and a warm blush slowly crept across his cheeks. He turned his face away, trying his best to look anywhere else but into her eyes.

This was Hua Buwan’s first time looking at a man from such a close distance. She could clearly see her own reflection in his deep eyes, noting how long and thick his eyelashes were. His breath was so near, and she could even hear the strong, steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Right now, Hua Buwan couldn’t tell if that THUMP THUMP THUMP was her heartbeat, his, or a mixture of both.

At that moment, Ling Qianjun’s deep, magnetic voice sounded right by her ear, as gentle as a poet’s murmur. "We’re crossing."

Hua Buwan gave a low response, "Mhm." In truth, if the atmosphere between them hadn’t been so quiet, Ling Qianjun never would have heard her whisper.

With that, Ling Qianjun carried Hua Buwan through the Any Door.

The two entered a dense fog. By now, all of Hua Buwan’s attention was entirely focused on the miraculous sensation of traveling through a millennium of time between the modern world and the past. Her state of mind gradually returned to a peaceful calm.

They passed through the fog in less than three seconds. Then, the fresh scent of vegetation washed over them, closely followed by the sound of chirping insects.

They had arrived in a forest in Dongxuan Country. After the two emerged, the Any Door automatically vanished behind them. It would not appear again unless they actively pictured the Any Door in their minds.

"Wow, I actually crossed over! I’m really in Dongxuan Country? The Dongxuan Country from a thousand years ago?" Hua Buwan looked around in sheer excitement. Even though it was clearly just an ordinary forest, she felt there was something truly special about this thousand-year-old woodland.

Ling Qianjun continued to hold Hua Buwan, making no move to let go. He simply stood in place, watching her observe her surroundings and listening to her joyful voice. Only when Hua Buwan snapped back to reality did Ling Qianjun reluctantly set her down on the ground.

His embrace still retained her lingering warmth. It felt like warm jade, yet its heat was enough to scorch his heart.
