Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Changed a Meme

"Huh?" Interrupted mid-question, Hua Buwan couldn’t quite wrap her head around why Ling Qianjun was focusing on Grandma Wen instead of the auction and the Dongxuan Country antiques.

Moreover, his gaze had suddenly become so intense that it was somewhat unnerving. He looked exactly like a dog that had just spotted its favorite meaty bone. Goosebumps instantly erupted on her arms.

"You went to the auction with Grandma Wen?" Ling Qianjun asked again. He wondered if that meant she hadn’t gone with another man.

"That’s right," Hua Buwan answered blankly. "I went with Grandma Wen. She’s amazing. Everyone there knows her, and she bought everything I put up for auction. She’s so rich."

Having gotten the answer he wanted, Ling Qianjun’s brow relaxed. His eyes sparkled with a brilliant light, and his energy instantly surged, making him look exceptionally radiant.

Hua Buwan wondered, "Huh? Is it my imagination? Why does it feel like the man in front of me just swapped out his emoji?"

"What about the auction?" Within a few breaths, Ling Qianjun had composed himself. His expression became tranquil again as he asked in a calm tone.

Hua Buwan didn’t quite understand his sudden mental shift, but she didn’t dwell on it. She immediately picked up where she had left off. "They were incredibly interested in the Dongxuan Country antiques. The moment I took the items out, everyone stood up... Let me tell you..."

Hua Buwan vividly recounted the day’s events. Ling Qianjun listened with rapt attention, offering responses from time to time.

"People here place much more value on ancient items. We don’t really do that, though we do have a stronger desire for things belonging to the Royal Family, or items that are simply rare. Take this plastic plate of yours, for example. We’ve never seen or heard of such a thing. We just think it is crystal clear, lightweight, and convenient. Naturally, its price would soar.

"But in your world a thousand years later, these are just ordinary tableware, worth less than one tael to us."

Hua Buwan strongly agreed. A sudden thought occurred to her. "Oh, right! The everyday items used by commoners in your era—like pots, pans, and even small trinkets—might fetch a good price at auction here. A thousand-year-old antique is extremely valuable, even if it was just used by ordinary people."

"Mm, next time I have the chance, I’ll bring some over to trade with you," Ling Qianjun said thoughtfully.

"No rush, we can talk about it when the opportunity arises." Hua Buwan smiled, not minding too much.

She had already earned enough money for her retirement. She could even somewhat understand that famous quote from Ma Baobao: "I have no interest in money..."

Coming down from the high of suddenly becoming filthy rich, Hua Buwan felt a bit empty inside. She felt that since heaven had given her such an opportunity, she ought to do more meaningful things. When poor, one looks after oneself; when successful, one should strive to help the world. She was now fully capable of doing more, but what exactly should she do?

"GURGLE." Her stomach growled again. Hua Buwan waved away her wandering thoughts and focused on eating her chicken.

Even though it hadn’t been seasoned with an excess of spices—simply rubbed with a little salt—it had a rich, savory chicken flavor. Lingnan people loved the natural taste of food the most. This chicken wasn’t tough at all—it was a genuine free-range mountain chicken—tender and incredibly fragrant!

"Delicious! You roasted it perfectly!" Hua Buwan gave Ling Qianjun a thumbs-up, not stingy with her praise.

Ling Qianjun had only taken a few bites. He spent the entire time helping Hua Buwan shred the chicken and handing her tissues.

Hua Buwan’s mouth was slick with grease, and both of her gloved hands were completely coated in oil. She didn’t even know which hand to reach out with to take a tissue.

Seeing that the grease on the corners of her mouth was about to drip down to her chin, Ling Qianjun quickly reached over with a tissue and gently wiped her lips.

Hua Buwan tilted her head up.

Time seemed to freeze.
