"What was that white mist coming out of your room just now, and how did it extinguish the leaping flames? Is there some secret behind it?" the lead government officer asked, his head full of questions. "Also, isn’t this fire a bit too bizarre? Does the Ling family know something?"

If he didn’t get to the bottom of this, his curiosity would continue scratching at him like a cat’s claws.

Ling Qianjun gave the lead government officer a mild glance and said very calmly, "That white mist was just the steam rising after we beat the flames with wet quilts and pillows. There is no secret. You’re overthinking it."

Naturally, Ling Qianjun would not let the matter of the Any Door be exposed. As long as they had no evidence, they couldn’t do anything to the Ling family.

The lead government officer frowned; his intuition told him there was definitely something fishy going on. "As for this fire you mentioned, we are even more clueless," Ling Qianjun continued. "When I woke up, I was already surrounded by the heavy blaze. If my family hadn’t woken me, I’d probably still be asleep. I have absolutely no idea how the fire started or if any suspicious people passed by. You’ve asked the wrong person."

Ling Qianjun was determined to claim total ignorance.

The lead government officer knew Ling Qianjun was right. He had interrogated the other three members of the Ling family, and Ling Qianjun was indeed the last to wake up. Because he was severely injured, his vigilance had been low while asleep.

"Really?" The lead government officer frowned deeply, clearly dissatisfied with this answer.

Luo waved his hand, quite pleased by Ling Qianjun’s attitude. After all, Ling Qianjun used to be a high-ranking official of the third grade! Having such a formerly prominent official act so respectfully toward him now made him feel incredibly smug.

"I’m heading back to the front," Luo said, waving a hand again as he quickly walked away.

As soon as Luo left, Ling Qianfan, Ling Yunge, and Xu Panqing immediately gathered around.

Ling Qianfan watched Luo’s retreating figure and asked in a low voice, "Qianjun, that government officer didn’t suspect anything, did he? We literally used the Demon’s fire extinguisher to put out the blaze."

Ling Yunge also nodded vigorously, clutching her sleeves in worry. "Qianjun, we won’t be in trouble, right?"

Xu Panqing stared at Ling Qianjun unblinkingly.

Ling Qianjun gave his family a reassuring look and said with perfect composure, "Even if he suspects something, he has no evidence, so the matter will eventually just be dropped. We just need to be more careful from now on. Once we reach Lingnan, we’ll have the chance to give these things a reasonable explanation to exist.

"Rest assured, everything is under our control.

"If anyone asks about it again in the future, just tell them you don’t know anything. We have to keep these secrets buried."

After Ling Qianjun finished speaking, the three of them nodded heavily, looking as if they were ready to swear an oath on the spot.

Her heart still fluttering with lingering fear, Xu Panqing patted her chest and whispered, "The Demon really did us a huge favor this time. She is a good Demon."

Ling Yunge chimed in, "I’m starting to like the Demon."

Ling Qianfan also nodded and said, "There are good Demons and bad Demons, and the one we met is a good Demon."
