Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Hua Buwan Instantly Sobered Up
Once Xu Panqing and Yunge had finished washing up and getting dressed, Ling Qianjun went in and pushed the bathtub through the Any Door.
Upon arriving on the other side, he dumped out the dirty hot water and scrubbed the tub clean. Following Hua Buwan’s lead, he carried the tub up to the small balcony on the second floor to dry in the sun.
Next, he used a new tub to draw fresh hot water—this was for him and Ling Qianfan to use.
While waiting for the tub to fill, Ling Qianjun asked, "Buwan, do you have any washable menstrual belts here? My mother and Yunge noticed the cotton falling out when they washed the ones you gave them."
Ling Qianjun realized he no longer felt embarrassed bringing up such topics with Hua Buwan. He had mentally prepared himself well. On the path of exile, they couldn’t afford to be overly fastidious; staying alive was all that mattered. Furthermore, these were necessities for his mother and sister. As a son and a brother, it was his natural duty to take good care of them.
Besides, Hua Buwan was completely open and unbothered when discussing the topic, which helped alleviate his own awkwardness.
Hua Buwan happened to be drinking from a bottle of iced tea. Hearing his question, she couldn’t hold it in and sprayed her drink everywhere. PFFT!
Ling Qianjun reacted quickly, dodging to the side. He frowned in confusion, wondering what had gotten into her. Was there something terribly wrong with his question?
Hua Buwan coughed a couple of times, clearly still choking on her drink. Fortunately, after a moment, her throat cleared up. She glanced at his bewildered expression and asked with a laugh, "Your mother and sister washed the sanitary pads? Did they plan to dry them out and reuse them?"
In her entire life, this was the very first time she had ever heard of anyone washing a disposable pad. But after a second of thought, she understood the mindset of ancient people and suppressed her astonishment.
"Didn’t I tell you when I gave them to you? You use them once and throw them away. You don’t wash them." Hua Buwan pulled out a couple of tissues, wiped her mouth, and then wiped the floor.
Ling Qianjun lowered his head, a hint of guilt on his face. "They just wanted to save some supplies. They didn’t want to trouble me to keep bringing them back. If we were still living in the Ling Mansion, they certainly wouldn’t have done this. But ever since the exile began, their mindset has changed. They won’t waste even a single drop of water or a crumb of cornbread."
Hua Buwan understood the hardships of exile, so she nodded sympathetically. "Everything will get better. It’s just that the pads I have here are all single-use. They aren’t meant to be washed. Besides, on the road to exile, you won’t always have a place to settle down, let alone wash and dry things. Hoarding used sanitary items... it’s just not hygienic or good for their health.
"These are designed for convenience. You use them and toss them, no hassle afterward."
She thought for a moment before adding, "Tell you what, advise them to throw away the thin ones after a single use, and I’ll get them some thicker ones. They can wash the thick ones if they really want to, but even those should be thrown out after two or three uses."
Hua Buwan knew that if she insisted they throw everything away, they would likely just hoard them in secret, wash them, reuse them, and hide the fact from Ling Qianjun. It was better to just accommodate their wishes.
"Alright," Ling Qianjun agreed.
Hua Buwan then selected some thick, pure-cotton sanitary pads and shoved them into his hands. Holding the supplies and pushing the tub of fresh hot water, Ling Qianjun headed back.
Late into the night.
Hua Buwan was sitting at the counter, dozing off while scrolling through a web novel on her phone.
"Welcome." The automated door chime rang out as Ling Qianjun walked in, carrying a small pouch.
He opened the pouch and poured its contents onto the counter.
Hua Buwan woke up instantly.
