Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Better Off Giving Birth to a Piece of Char Siu Than You

"Oh my god, what a disgrace! This poor girl eats so frugally, yet her own mother comes knocking to demand money. What kind of mother is this? She’s acting like a debt collector!"

"Didn’t you hear her mother say she wanted to eat fish with pickled cabbage? The daughter scrimps and saves to give her money, and she won’t even spare her daughter’s own food rations."

"Bloody hell! This mother is barely human!"

Lin Baozhu hadn’t expected to be pointed at, gossiped about, and cursed at by so many people the moment she came downstairs. She instantly flew into a rage. Raising her hand, she lunged forward to pinch Hua Buwan. "Did you badmouth me, you wretched girl? Why is your mouth so cheap!"

Before her hand could even touch Hua Buwan’s skin, the girl let out a sudden, miserable shriek and collapsed to the floor. "Ah! Mom, please don’t hit me! Don’t hit me!"

Hua Buwan covered her head, her entire body trembling violently.

Hua Buwan knew she could have just barred Lin Baozhu from entering the supermarket. However, based on her understanding of her own mother, Lin Baozhu definitely wouldn’t let things go easily. She would shamelessly cause a scene at the supermarket every single day and absolutely wouldn’t leave until she got some money. Therefore, Hua Buwan needed to seize the moral high ground and get everyone on her side, making Lin Baozhu too afraid to ever show her face in this area again.

She wasn’t being black-hearted; she just wanted to protect herself. If others treated her with kindness, she would naturally repay them doubly.

The crowd of gossiping bystanders grew larger and larger. Seeing Hua Buwan’s terrified reaction, they all cast looks of sheer disgust at Lin Baozhu.

"Why are you hitting and pinching people! Is a daughter not a human being? Are husbands and sons the only ones who count? You’re a woman yourself, aren’t you!"

"Looking at this girl’s reaction, her mother must beat her all the time. She probably has severe domestic violence tendencies!"

"Right, right, right, why don’t we call the police? God knows what this kind of mother is capable of doing. What if she sells this girl off to the deep mountains just to get money to raise her son!"

"Let’s call the police. I’ll make the call right now."

Hearing these people picking up their phones to call the cops and have her arrested, Lin Baozhu panicked.

She hurriedly waved her hands and shook her head. "No, I’m not, I didn’t even touch her! Hua Buwan! Stop pretending! Get up right now and explain it to them!"

But Hua Buwan remained curled up on the ground, her head buried in her knees, refusing to even glance at her.

Anxious, Lin Baozhu stomped her feet. She gritted her teeth and silently cursed Hua Buwan, "I would have been better off giving birth to a piece of roast pork than you!"

Unwilling to leave empty-handed, Lin Baozhu braved the chorus of curses, marched over to the cash register, and quickly yanked open the till.

Staring at the completely empty cash drawer, Lin Baozhu rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Once she confirmed it was truly devoid of cash, she spat in Hua Buwan’s direction. Grabbing a random handful of items next to the counter, she stuffed them into her pockets, covered her face, and fled.

The people outside were brimming with a strong sense of justice, cursing at her all the way. Some even threw leftover food at her until she completely left the area.

Just then, Hua Buwan caught a glimpse of the merchandise Lin Baozhu had snatched—the final resting place for billions of cells.

She had no idea why Lin Baozhu would grab those of all things. Did she not recognize what they were? Or did she actually need them? Regardless, those things were actually quite expensive. Hua Buwan’s heart still ached over the financial loss for a brief moment.

At this time, the warm-hearted neighborhood elders and residents all came forward to comfort Hua Buwan. They promised her that if her mother ever dared to set foot here again, they would be the first to block her out. They assured her they would never let that woman get near her and told her to live here with peace of mind.

Even the little toddlers patted their chests and declared to Hua Buwan:

"Pretty sister, if that mean lady comes back again, I’ll shoot her with my water gun! PEW PEW PEW!"

"Big sister, do you believe in the light? Ultraman Tiga will destroy her! Don’t be afraid!"
