Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 19: Hua Buwan Had a Nightmare
Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Hua Buwan Had a Nightmare
Seeing Zhou Guodong lying flat on the ground with his chest weakly rising and falling, Ling Qianjun threw the piece of hemp rope in his hand forcefully next to the unconscious man.
When he had first crossed over, he had seen the front door on the first floor open and walked over out of curiosity. He couldn’t physically pass through; reaching out his hand, he was met with an invisible wall of air. However, he had experimented and discovered that items from the supermarket could pass through the barrier. It was only his body that couldn’t cross. That was why he tossed Zhou Guodong out. If people outside walked by, they wouldn’t immediately suspect that this man was connected to the supermarket. After all, he was now lying at the entrance of the adjacent shop.
Listening to the man’s voice earlier, Ling Qianjun had recognized him. He remembered that this was the same person who had previously told Hua Buwan that the Gold Leaf was worth 520 yuan—the owner of the pawnshop next door. Because of this, Ling Qianjun felt even more furious and indignant. This man was right next door, constantly keeping an eye on Hua Buwan, and there was no telling when his wicked intentions had first taken root. If he hadn’t happened to arrive at exactly this time tonight, Hua Buwan’s fate would have been unimaginable.
He wanted nothing more than to kill this man to vent his hatred. But he couldn’t. Doing so would bring trouble to Hua Buwan, especially since he couldn’t drag the body back to his own world. When the time came, the government officers in this world would trace the incident back to her.
Ling Qianjun decided that he needed to visit more often in the future, especially at night. With him around, those scoundrels wouldn’t be able to lay a finger on Hua Buwan.
Having dealt with the situation, Ling Qianjun turned and walked back to the bed, gently tucking the kicked-off blanket back over Hua Buwan. After a moment, he softly called out by her ear, using the air conditioner remote control nearby to nudge her hand.
"Buwan, Buwan, wake up."
He had smelled the knockout gas lingering in the room, so he had already opened all the windows on the second floor to let the fresh air in.
Hua Buwan was sleeping deeply, trapped in a nightmare. She dreamed of her early childhood, of being despised by her parents for being a girl. She remembered other relatives pointing out her gender and telling her parents not to pay for her college education. She dreamed of her younger brother’s birth. All the adults hovered around him, saving all the delicious food and fun toys for him. She was left to pick from his leftovers or take whatever he didn’t want. She dreamed of her grandparents’ passing, and thought of...
As these dreams played out, two streams of bitter tears flowed uncontrollably from the corners of Hua Buwan’s eyes.
Ling Qianjun watched her tightly furrowed brows, sensing an unresolvable sorrow weighing on her. And then, he saw her crying. The moment she cried, he suddenly felt entirely at a loss. He wanted to reach out and smooth the creases between her brows. He wanted to wipe away the tear tracks at the corners of her eyes. But he knew he couldn’t. Strict propriety between men and women dictated that he couldn’t do such a thing while she was asleep.
So, Ling Qianjun restrained himself, suppressing the urge to touch her. He simply stayed by her side, calling Hua Buwan’s name over and over again, trying to pull her out of the nightmare.
In the depths of her nightmare, Hua Buwan seemed to hear someone’s voice. It was incredibly gentle and pleasant to the ear, slowly soothing away the profound sense of unease in her heart. Listening to that voice, she felt an overwhelming sense of security, as if a ray of sunlight had pierced through the darkness, parting the surrounding gloom.
Hua Buwan struggled. She wanted to see what that person looked like, she...
"COUGH, COUGH COUGH."
The moment she opened her eyes, Hua Buwan began coughing violently. Perhaps it was the lingering scent of the drug in the air, or maybe it was because all the windows on the second floor were wide open, allowing the smoke from the barbecue stalls outside to drift in. She couldn’t adapt to it right away.
Seeing this, Ling Qianjun immediately went down to the first floor, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and handed it to her.
Hua Buwan took the water and looked up, meeting Ling Qianjun’s worried gaze. Their eyes locked.
