Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 15: It’s That Gold Ingot
Chapter 15: Chapter 15: It’s That Gold Ingot
The next day, Hua Buwan slept in until she naturally woke up. After washing up and changing into a beautiful dress, she caught a cab to the most famous restaurant in town for dim sum!
She had wanted to try their morning tea for a long time but had always been too strapped for cash. A single dish here would normally cost as much as her usual takeout meals. She had only ever been able to gaze longingly from afar, never actually stepping foot inside. But things were different now. Her pockets were full, and her first order of business was to treat herself to a good meal.
Thanks to the reservation she had made on their app the night before, she was able to be seated immediately upon arrival.
As soon as Hua Buwan reached the entrance, the bustling noise from inside washed over her. The entire first floor was packed, filled with a sea of people. Most of the patrons were families enjoying their morning tea together, with a large number of elderly folks. Spotting her at the door, a waiter promptly approached to greet her and led her to a four-seater table in the corner.
Hua Buwan scanned the menu and ordered chicken feet with black bean sauce, shrimp dumplings, pork siu mai, barbecue pork buns, and custard buns. She knew she couldn’t finish it all by herself, but she planned to pack up the leftovers and heat them up for lunch. After taking her order, the waiter asked for her tea preference. The seating charge was three yuan per person, so she opted for chrysanthemum tea to cool her system.
Sitting there by herself felt a little conspicuous. It was rare to see someone having morning tea alone. Unsurprisingly, quite a few young men passing by couldn’t help but cast glances in her direction. Of course, that was also because Hua Buwan was striking enough to turn heads on any given day.
What she hadn’t expected, however, was to run into an acquaintance—the old man she had met yesterday, Feng Chengde.
Beside him, arm in arm, was a kind-looking older woman with a beaming smile. She wore an elegant qipao that exuded a gentle, refined grace. Even from a distance, she looked like a quintessential lady from a prestigious family. Hua Buwan couldn’t help but stare a little longer.
Feng Chengde instantly caught her gaze. Initially, he assumed some old geezer was ogling his wife again, but to his surprise, it was just a young girl—and one he actually recognized.
The older woman followed his line of sight, her attention drawn to Hua Buwan before she turned back to her husband. Raising a beautifully shaped brow, she asked softly, "Old man, do you know this girl?"
Not intending to hide anything, Feng Chengde nodded. "Yes, I just met her yesterday. She was a customer at the shop. The one with the gold ingot," he added.
The moment she heard the words "gold ingot," his wife’s entire demeanor perked up. She gripped his arm excitedly and asked in disbelief, "The gold ingot? It was this little girl?"
"Mhm," Feng Chengde replied with a smiling nod.
When he had told his wife about it last night, she hadn’t believed him. She had wondered how such a young girl could possess an antique of that caliber, even going so far as to brainstorm a few wild theories. Now that she was looking at the girl in the flesh, she finally believed her husband’s story. She couldn’t help but praise, "What a gorgeous little girl."
"Come on, let’s go over there," she said, dragging Feng Chengde toward Hua Buwan’s table.
Seeing them approach, Hua Buwan sat up straight and offered them a warm smile.
"Mr. Feng, Mrs. Feng," Hua Buwan greeted sweetly. It never hurt to be polite, no matter who she was dealing with.
"Young lady, is anyone sitting here? Are you having morning tea all by yourself?" Mrs. Feng asked affectionately.
Hua Buwan nodded. "Yes, it’s just me."
"Would you mind if we shared the table?" Mrs. Feng asked.
Feng Chengde shot his wife a glare. They had agreed on a romantic breakfast for two, and now she was inviting a third wheel! He desperately signaled at Hua Buwan with his eyes, thinking, "Reject her! Quickly, tell her no!"
