Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 120: Clap, Clap, Clap
Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Clap, Clap, Clap
This was the moment the venomous snake had been waiting for!
Naturally, Ling Qianjun and Ling Yunge heard the serpent’s hiss. They looked up in unison!
The second Ling Qianjun saw the viper, he drew a dagger from his sleeve. Ling Yunge stared at the ginseng, which had only a single root left to unearth. Gritting her teeth, she stayed low to the ground and kept digging furiously.
Hua Buwan pulled the Realgar Powder and Realgar Wine from her bag, tossing it toward the viper with reckless abandon! Snakes were absolutely terrified of the stuff; she just needed to drive it out of their immediate area.
Ling Qianjun kept his dagger ready to strike. If the snake came any closer, he would not hesitate to stab it right in its vital spot.
As she threw the powder, Hua Buwan called out, "Yunge, get away from there! It’s venomous. The ginseng isn’t worth your life!"
The reason they hadn’t already fled was that the snake was simply too close. If they stood up and turned their backs, the viper would likely pounce on them immediately. Furthermore, out in the woods, knee-high weeds and thorny brambles covered the ground. There was no way they could outrun a snake in this terrain. It was far too dangerous.
Ling Yunge remained focused, staying low as she carefully excavated the root. "Almost," she said softly. "I almost have it out. Just give me a little more time."
She refused to give up. It was incredibly rare to stumble upon a ginseng plant of this age. They had to resume their journey that afternoon, meaning their next trip up a mountain wouldn’t be on this one. Who knew if the mountains ahead would have any medicinal herbs of this quality?
The snake crept closer, its cold eyes locked onto the ginseng. Though the Realgar Wine and Realgar Powder had made its movements sluggish and slow, it relentlessly continued its advance.
Hua Buwan rummaged through her bag for any usable tools, pulling out a small iron shovel and a little knife. After a moment’s thought, she handed the iron shovel to Ling Qianjun. It provided more reach and would be safer for him to use than the dagger. Ling Qianjun didn’t refuse and took the shovel.
They both kept a close eye on Ling Yunge’s progress. The very moment she finally pulled the ginseng free, the snake was practically on top of them!
Now was the time!
Hua Buwan smashed the remaining Realgar Wine and Realgar Powder onto the venomous snake, then grabbed Ling Yunge and sprinted away.
While the snake was disoriented in the "mist" of realgar, Ling Qianjun struck. His very first blow with the shovel landed dead center on the serpent’s vital spot!
The viper coiled up viciously, flicking its tongue at him. Like a frenzied beast, it opened its gaping maw and lunged, determined to sink its fangs into Ling Qianjun! However, its exposure to the realgar had severely slowed its reactions. For Ling Qianjun, this was the perfect opportunity.
His movements were fast, precise, and ruthless. His next swing smashed directly into the snake’s head.
The blow slammed the viper against a tree. Its head was practically flattened, reduced to a bloody, mangled mess. Unwilling to take any chances, Ling Qianjun followed the snake’s falling body and hammered down on it several more times.
BAM BAM BAM!
As if completely unable to react, the snake "obediently" let Ling Qianjun bash it over and over again!
HISS...
With one final, indignant flick of its tongue, the venomous snake fell utterly still.
Hua Buwan and Ling Yunge watched from a short distance away, not daring to make any rash moves. If the viper had lunged at them instead, they lacked the strength and reflexes to fight it off. They would have simply been chased down and bitten.
They both understood a profound truth: when you aren’t strong enough, there is no use hesitating or standing around foolishly just to drag your family down! That would only weaken their combat effectiveness. Retreating wasn’t cowardly or selfish; it was the optimal solution.
Of course, every situation required its own specific analysis.
