Chapter 2239: Chapter 2239: The Doctor’s Weapon

Luviya listed out four demands, Shard and Iluna didn’t feel this was easy, and Shard said:

"History has recorded numerous events triggered by dragons, like when Iluna encountered a dragon while aboard a floating airship last year. However, there’s never been clear documentation of the Sword of Light.

This implies that the calamity caused by dragons surely isn’t just consuming a few sheep, burning a forest, or destroying a few houses. If we theorize that the calamity holds no relation to dragons, then the severity of conditions probably has to elevate to significantly impacting the progress of civilization."

Luviya raised an eyebrow:

"A calamity on the scale of Moon Bay’s destruction should be sufficient, right?"

Shard felt as though his head had been struck:

"Are you saying that the prophecy was specifically prepared for the Chosen One Ceremony?"

Luviya nodded, and explained to Iluna, who still hadn’t understood:

"Shard is referring to the prophecy that Moon Bay will certainly be destroyed.

The prophecy’s appearance is connected to the local Seven Great Families, whose emergence happened in the latter part of the Fifth Era. Although it’s still unclear what kind of dragon the Seven Great Families encountered, or whether that dragon was aware of the ’Whispering Verses’. But for now, even if nothing is done and one solely waits for the inevitable demise, it’s likely that someone will draw the sword to defend against the enemy in the Moon Bay Region."

"So, because of that prophecy, the Chosen of Light is destined to appear in Moon Bay?"

Iluna realized, yet Luviya corrected:

"It’s also possible that because the Chosen of Light was selected by the verses to appear in Moon Bay, that’s why the prophecy was passed down."

She was always cautious about the verses, never making a definitive conclusion:

"In any case, if we choose this very relaxed path, then we don’t need to conduct any tense investigations further. Just wait for Moon Bay’s destruction, and the Chosen One of Light will surely appear."

"But Shard will not do that, right?"

The eighteen-year-old girl smiled and asked Shard, who certainly wouldn’t choose this "easy" path:

"The permanent population of the Moon Bay Region is millions, just like Tobesk. Allowing Moon Bay’s destruction, even if residents were evacuated in advance, the death toll would still be staggering, not to mention the subsequent severe impacts caused by property loss. We’ve always sought better outcomes, and this time is no exception."

"Just as I thought~"

Iluna clapped her hands:

"Then, when I arrive in Moon Bay, the focus will be investigating the source of Moon Bay City’s destruction, and the ceremony for permanently drawing the Sword of Light. The first way of drawing the sword is unpredictable, while the second only requires a ceremony, without facing a calamity."

"We aren’t entirely without a direction for investigation."

Luviya reminded:

"Previous events have shown that the contents of the Chosen One Ceremony, even if we don’t search for it, the Chosen will find out through wonderful means. You can start from this direction and determine the number of holy swords and the identity of current holders. Of course, I don’t recommend collecting all those swords yourselves; it’s completely unnecessary."

Shard and Iluna nodded, understanding the Chosen One qualification can’t be forcefully obtained.

"Speaking of which, Luviya, when are you going to Moon Bay?"

Iluna asked again, and the purple-eyed girl was rather troubled:

"Initially, my application was approved, but the association then said I must participate in Saint Byrons’ summer exams at the end of the month, so they rejected my application during the final review. Today is Wednesday the 16th, the exam is next Sunday the 27th, which leaves 11 days."

"So, what are you planning? Going to Moon Bay after the exams?"

Shard asked, and Luviya pursed her lips and nodded:

"It’s not essential for me to be there in Moon Bay right now, and taking a long leave in the association would be abrupt. I’ll wait until after the exams; there’s still eleven days. During this time, be careful with your activities in Moon Bay, and communicate anytime if anything happens."

Shard and Iluna both nodded, as the night had deepened and they simultaneously gazed out the window at the street view. Iluna reaching Moon Bay marks the end of Shard’s preliminary investigation, and the story of the seventh Chosen One begins a new Chapter.

That night, Luviya and Iluna left together from Shard’s home, but the purple-eyed girl quickly returned, whereas Shard had already found her pajamas from the wardrobe.

Nothing happened overnight, and early Thursday morning, Luviya was making breakfast for Shard and Mia in the kitchen when Shard unexpectedly received a letter from Saint Byrons. The envelope bore the handwriting of Miss Danester, and upon opening it, he learned that Miss Danester had left the Academy to meet with the believers of the Old God "Weaver of Harmony".

She wrote in the letter asking Shard not to worry about her and to take care of himself while in Moon Bay. If Shard really needed help, he could take the ring she gave him during the end-of-the-month festival to seek help from the Saint Byrons Integrated Academy team that was going to Moon Bay.

"Miss Danester says our school principal, Mr. Pigman, is even more formidable than she is... I always thought that Miss Danester and the principal were about the same level since they’re both Thirteen Ring."

When Luviya walked over from the kitchen with a tray and wearing an apron, Shard was saying this.

The purple-eyed girl thought for a moment:

"I’ve heard people talk about this before; it seems principal Mr. Pigman’s Sublimation Incantation is more powerful. The principal is known to people as the ’Silver Guardian,’ and he is skilled in space and sealing powers. When he was still teaching, he was a professor at your History Academy. It’s said that his High Ring Ascension Words cannot be withstood by anyone in the material world."

She said this while taking off her apron and sitting next to Shard, who smiled and kissed her on the cheek:

"Thank you for your hard work. Now, let’s start eating. Oh, if it can’t be withstood, can it be avoided?"

"I don’t know about that; the principal only participated in the battle at Midshire Fort. During the Green Lake incident, I heard from colleagues from the association headquarters that one of the plans for dealing with the final riot in the Interstice of Life and Death was actually to have the principal use the Sublimation Incantation. But things didn’t develop to that point, so I’m also not sure what exactly the principal’s Sublimation Incantation involves."

Since Saint Delan Square is near the Prophet’s Society on Silver Cross Avenue, after breakfast, Luviya wasn’t in a hurry to go to work. She and Shard washed the dishes in the kitchen and then discussed the recent weather and the newspaper news before Shard accompanied her down the stairs.

It was a bit awkward, though, when Luviya opened the downstairs door and was about to turn to say goodbye to Shard, she saw Dr. Schneider carrying a black briefcase, just about to step up to the steps of door number six.

The doctor and Luviya exchanged a knowing look, and then the two greeted each other as if this scene was very normal:

"Good morning, Annette."

"Good morning, Doctor."

Afterwards, Luviya smiled and said goodbye to Shard, but her pace was noticeably quicker than usual as she left. Although the members of the group all knew about the relationship between Luviya and Shard, getting "caught" at Shard’s doorstep by the doctor was still quite embarrassing for her.

After all, she and Shard weren’t married, and no matter how much she didn’t care about what others thought, such things couldn’t be openly discussed.

Of course, Dr. Schneider, who followed Shard inside, wouldn’t bring up this issue again. After closing the door, he pointed to the briefcase he was carrying:

"It went smoothly; the weapon is ready."

Shard was startled:

"So fast? That’s great, when are we leaving?"

The issue with Emilia needed to be resolved as quickly as possible. Although since moving into Belindel Estate, perhaps due to the Witch’s protection or the Little Unicorn’s powers, Emilia had only encountered a low-level relic once, but Shard couldn’t guarantee nothing else would happen later.

"Don’t be in such a hurry; there are still some issues. Let’s discuss them upstairs."

The two went up to the second floor together. Mia, who thought Shard was going out, seeing another new guest in the house, got up from the sofa and jumped onto the windowsill to give them space.

The doctor didn’t waste words, placing the briefcase on the coffee table and opening it, displaying the deadly "weapon" he had crafted to Shard.

Shard looked over curiously and then asked perplexedly:

"Doctor, how did you manage to turn so much metal, bones, and liquid into a finished product that’s just a glass bead?"

The box’s interior was securely fixed with two glass beads, about the size kids played with on the street. However, inside the transparent glass beads, there were dim silver-gray runes solidified, consistent with the crest pattern of the Demon Hunting Seal.

"This is Psychic Alchemy, a rather niche alchemical craftsmanship."

The doctor shook his head and didn’t further explain the principles:

"I don’t know if I’m on a lucky streak lately. I thought the materials were only enough to make one, but fate favored me, and nothing was wasted, resulting in two. Each of us will carry one. These are the weapons."

"Hmm... if the materials are enough to create a glass bead, why not grind it into a bullet’s tip?"

Shard pinched one of the beads, letting the cold glass bead roll in his palm. The beads undeniably possessed the power of a demon, and a very strong one at that. The doctor’s thinking was evidently to use demons against demons.

"Because it needs to be a smooth sphere."

The doctor also picked up the other bead, bending his right index finger with the glass bead on the joint and making a flicking gesture with his thumb:

"Though it’s not a common weapon, I know your strength isn’t less than mine. In our hands, even a glass bead is far more powerful than the best high-pressure steam sniper rifle. Locate that crow, then catapult it. Although we have two shots, once the first person acts, regardless of success, there’s no need for the other to shoot again."
