Chapter 2231: Chapter 2231: Opera – Mermaid Princess

Among the seven mermaid princesses, the most adorable and petite princess (played by Princess Angelina Cavendish) has already exchanged her voice for a pair of beautiful human legs from the undersea witch (which Duke Ingalina rejected, played by a certain royal maid), driven by her fascination with human life and the beauty of that prince (played by Princess Betty Cavendish).

As the naive and kind-hearted little princess, who does not understand the ugliness in human hearts, believes she successfully hid her plan from everyone and ventured into the human world, the fourth act ends.

On the side of Yordle Palace, applause resounded in the banquet hall of Saint James Palace. Angelina, having lost her voice, hummed the last song with ethereal nasal sound and then descended from the stage.

The curtain closed as the applause and praise echoed, the lights in Saint James Palace temporarily illuminated, allowing the backstage to set up the next scene and letting the ladies with gemstone necklaces around their necks or gentlemen in neat attire discuss and praise the princesses for the birthday gift dedicated to His Majesty the King.

Shortly thereafter, as the hall lights dimmed again, the music resumed. The opera specially rehearsed by the Cavendishes for His Majesty the King proceeded to the final act in front of the kingdom’s nobles, foreign envoys, and journalists.

The curtain opened, six princesses holding hands stepped onto the stage. Although playing the role of "Mermaid Princess," the young and beautiful red-haired Cavendishes did not use stage props to adorn themselves. The six wore gowns in six different colors, their vivid red hair falling behind them, adorned with water droplet-shaped gemstones on their brows matching the color of each person’s gown.

Standing in the center were the elder princess (played by Princess Lecia Cavendish) and the second princess (played by Princess Cindy Cavendish), and under the spotlight, Lecia was undoubtedly the most beautiful one. Together, they sang, showcasing the royal family’s educational outcome for the princesses in full splendor through this performance.

Below the stage, Luviya sitting together watching the opera whispered to Dorothy:

"Lecia is truly stunning, more beautiful than the mermaid sketches you drew when writing the script."

The surface was Dorothy, yet also Dorothy in essence, proudly raising her head admiring the singing Lecia:

"Yes, truly a beautiful red-haired lady... High Level Circle Sorcerers tend to naturally gravitate toward handsomeness and beauty, it’s not surprising, and Lecia herself is very beautiful."

The purple-eyed diviner then lowered her voice slightly, with a smile, asked:

"Have you noticed, we and Shard... afterward, our bodies are undergoing very marvelous changes too."

This time, Dorothy did not answer, but she evidently noticed it as well.

The six princesses sighed for their "foolish" little sister and then, through song, decided to find a way to prevent her from heading towards a self-destructive end. Thus the princesses formed a circle, holding hands, and in a recitative manner called upon a presence even more mysterious than the witch in the Seven Seas.

Maid and eunuch attendants who aided the performance took to the stage, quickly forming nearly a hundred people dancing and acting together. As they retreated, leaving only the six princesses on stage, amidst the audience’s exclamations, Shard descended from above.

Of course, he was suspended by steel wires and silk ropes. As he jumped from the left edge above the stage, the stage mechanism pulled him around in a "flight" circle along the edges, finally landing in the center of the six princesses under the dazzling spotlight.

A circus featuring such acrobatic performances is not novel, but combining it with opera is quite intriguing. Thus amidst the applause, Shard dressed in a silver robe covered with reflective sequins formally touched down. Although the princesses’ gowns directly touched the floor, the handmade robe of Shard was more extravagant, its tail train longer than his own height, supposedly simulating a dragon’s tail.

As for Shard himself, he wore no dragon-shaped monster mask, according to the scriptwriter Dorothy’s explanation — "Only third-rate operas use ugly masks to represent monsters"; and according to what Miss Galina said gleefully backstage before the opera — "Your face is inherently more captivating than this costume."

The music stopped, seven spotlights on stage, one large six small, illuminating Shard and the six princesses. His dramatic robe’s reflective glimmer made him appear as if he was emitting light. Before speaking his lines, Shard once more asked:

"Will the Arcane Technique - [Dragon Roar] used to enhance speech intimidation really not be noticed? There are church Circle Sorcerers below the stage."

[Affirmative, you must trust the divine arts bestowed by the Ancient God. As long as you don’t use your spiritual power to directly scare those poor girls out of their wits, no one will notice your minor behavior.]

Thus Shard briefly utilized the Arcane Technique’s effect, then articulated clearly, addressing the six princesses:

"Why have you summoned me?"

As the words left his mouth, the six princesses, including Lecia, indeed as rehearsed stepped back slightly, their faces blushing, carrying expressions of fear, worry but also some excitement and eagerness as they looked at him. Shard could only say the Cavendish-family girls were quite adept at acting.

"Dragon, oh Dragon, we need your help."

Lecia thus began to sing, her green eyes keeping watchful gaze on Shard:

"Our poor little sister made a mistake, we wish to give her a chance to amend."

"What do I stand to gain?"

The Dragon (played by Shard) asked.

Six princesses rotated around him, each responding in turn:

"Our palace has a mountain of wealth."

"Our father holds the highest power over the seven seas."

"Our family possesses the oldest library."

"Our maids possess the most petite and charming beauty."

"Our ocean holds countless stories."

Finally, Lecia said:

"Dragon, if you are willing, we will also sacrifice our freedom to exchange for the life of our little sister."

They all sobbed together, to which the dragon generously said:

"You have shown me the friendship of sisters, and you have shown me the affection of the royal family. This is more precious than any wealth, power, or land. Oh caring sisters and united mermaid princesses, I will grant you the strength to retrieve that thoughtless young girl."

From below the stage, Luviya glanced askance at Miss Writer who wrote the script. Dorothy, dressed in a deep blue ball gown, raised her glass and playfully winked at her:

"This is a gift for the king, do you think I can express any new values? Luviya, this play is for the king, and that’s important."

Crack~

The metallic instrument imitated the sound of thunder, the dragon raised its right hand high, catching the golden scepter taller than a person that was tossed from above, the scepter’s top inlaid with the large pearl Shard gifted during Queen Diana’s birthday last year.

The scepter was handed by the dragon to the princess played by Lecia, then Shard, playing a marginal role, was lifted again and with a "flying" fashion exited the stage.

The stage rotated, the scenes changed, the six princesses exited, and the re-entering little mermaid princess finally arrived at the human kingdom. She entered the human city, participated in the wedding held today between a human prince and princess, and then after the wedding, sorrowfully went to the seaside alone.

The prince and princess released white doves here and took a (model) ship far away (walking themselves) to spend their honeymoon. The heartbroken little mermaid princess, humming softly to herself, spun under the stage spotlight, with a large number of bubbles continuously rising from below the stage (soap bubbles blown by the maids).

Applause rang out again, and Lecia led the six princesses onto the stage among the bubbles:

"Our poor little sister, why are you sad?"

The six sang together, the band’s accompaniment couldn’t drown out the princesses’ singing voices, and in the form of a duet, the six princesses sang about their sadness and bewilderment over their little sister’s encounter, while the little princess who couldn’t speak could only softly hum a compassionate tune.

As the sorrowful little princess was about to "melt" into the bubbles, Lecia picked up the scepter placed at her feet:

"Foolish little sister, we’ve found you a second chance."

She tapped the scepter on Angelina’s shoulder, the spotlight above changing colors through the alternating colored glass, thus Angelina regained the ability to speak, and the curse of turning into foam also disappeared.

She sang again, dancing with each of her sisters. Finally, the seven princesses held hands, praising sisterly affection and the greatness of the marine royalty, and within Angelina’s lyrics were even quite bold phrases like "a prince is no match for family."

In the princesses’ song, the sound of waves rang from behind the stage, and King Larus III, playing the "King of the Seven Seas," took the stage. Without makeup, he happily announced a great feast to celebrate this moment. Thus, the seven princesses joyously danced around their father, and the final scene of the opera was the family embracing tightly.

"Bravo!"

Loud applause like a steam bomb explosion filled the largest banquet hall of Saint James Palace. Everyone excitedly stood up, clapping and praising how special and heartwarming the gift the princesses gave to the king was.

"This is the best opera I’ve seen this year, no, the best in the past decade!"

"Blatant lyricism, unpretentious lines, concise yet intricate story! It’s truly wonderful!"

"The princesses’ singing voices are truly beautiful, the church-trained professional choir doesn’t have such skills as they do!"

"His Majesty’s acting is really quite good, truly vividly performed the role of a... king!"

"What a warm and heartfelt conclusion, oh, I’m about to cry!"
