Chapter 2222: Chapter 2222: Diviner and Diviner

"Meow~"

After Iluna finished telling the story of the Ancient God, the cat lying on Shard’s lap meowed, probably because it was feeling so comfortable from Shard’s petting.

Luviya nodded, but it was clear she didn’t come this morning for this topic:

"Shard, how’s the situation over at Moon Bay?"

"Still the same, but various organizations are emerging, and the calamity of light is gradually appearing. The dragon’s shadow still looms over the city, yet the Seven Great Families each harbor ulterior motives, making it difficult for me to assess the actions of the nobles."

He briefly described last night’s brawl, and Luviya nodded, speaking to Shard and Iluna:

"Although Shard, you likely can’t be the Chosen One, and Iluna doesn’t seem like a candidate for the Chosen of Light right now, it doesn’t mean you aren’t qualified to draw the ’Sword of Light.’ I have a request for you: during your actions at Moon Bay, try to do as many ’acts of justice’ as possible. Whether justice should be judged by thoughts, intentions, or actual deeds is not something I’ll discuss with you, but your actions must be just."

She paused and added:

"Of course, this isn’t a hundred percent requirement, just a reminder to keep this in mind. If the first to draw the Sword of Light is one of you two, even without holding a Chosen One Ceremony, we can gain the upper hand."

"Luviya, do you know the ceremony for obtaining the ’Sword of Light’?"

Iluna asked excitedly, and Shard also turned to her. The purple-eyed Miss Diviner shook her head with a smile:

"No, but I’ve found some interesting information within the association. It wasn’t easy, as I didn’t want others knowing what I was investigating. Although the association doesn’t have a complete ceremony record, the data indeed contains information about that sword. I won’t repeat the part Shard has already discovered; the new information is that the Sword of Light won’t harm a person of justice."

"Wait, do you mean, if I’m a person of justice, even standing still, the weapon forged with Ancient God Power won’t injure me if it strikes?"

Shard asked, and Luviya shook her head:

"If it’s a physical entity and actually strikes you, it will certainly cause harm. It’s just that its special power won’t affect a person of justice. If its opponent is a person of justice, then it would just be an ordinary longsword."

"But how exactly should justice be defined?"

The eighteen-year-old girl asked, then noticed both Shard and Luviya looking at her, with the latter saying with contentment:

"Very good, Iluna, you who wield the Balance should contemplate this question. But you shouldn’t seek answers from us; instead, we should be seeking answers from you. After all, you are the one holding the balance."

Iluna pondered, while Shard continued the previous topic:

"Even if we can’t draw the Sword of Light, as long as we’re also judged as people of justice, the greatest asset of the Chosen of Light is useless against us. It’s an interesting approach; however, I worry that the Sword of Light’s judgment on justice may be similar to the Great Sin Chain’s judgment on sin."

He explained meticulously:

"Theoretically, the Great Sin Chain only affects those with sin. But from my experience, aside from some extremely special cases, almost all sentient beings have sin. Yes, everyone. Whether the Sword of Light has a similar effect—except for extremely special situations—makes it such that every wise life in this world has a ’non-justice’ side."

"That’s not something to worry about now. Let’s focus on what’s at hand first."

Luviya said, then reminded Iluna:

"Apart from the Dragon Feast Cult, there’s also the Light Worshipper Training Association to deal with this time. Perhaps your power can combat the dragon, but what will you do against the kind of light Shard mentioned that melts everything? Even Shard said he needs time to react to such a strange glow. So what about you, Iluna? Once you get to Moon Bay, be cautious and don’t be too impulsive."

The eighteen-year-old girl nodded heavily, then asked:

"Luviya, are you going to Moon Bay?"

"If the church requests the association’s help like they did at Green Lake, and the association deploys diviners from the Old Continent to Moon Bay, I’ll sign up. My performance last time was decent; as long as I apply, I’m sure to be selected. If the association doesn’t organize such events, I haven’t taken my annual leave yet, so I could apply for a leave of absence to depart for a while."

This time Shard didn’t suggest for safety reasons that Luviya shouldn’t go to Moon Bay. Now that Luviya has reached the Seventh Ring, he need not worry about her safety as he once did. The stories of the Chosen Ones are becoming increasingly dangerous, so before the danger actively affects them, it’s indeed necessary to let everyone around them get used to the danger.

That’s also why Shard hasn’t strongly opposed Galina and Lecia’s decision to have Angelina accompany Tifa to the Southern Nation.

Besides discussing the issues related to the Sword of Light with Iluna and Shard, Luviya came this morning to give Shard a divination tool:

"Weren’t you trying to find the seven dragon scales corresponding to the Seven Great Families? Since the dragon scale you found already contains Ancient God’s power, I tried to create this. I’ve been researching the Ancient God and Chosen Ones’ power for quite some time now. Recently, studying Laplace Howard’s information has yielded some results... He truly is a genius. This can assist you."

Luviya handed Shard a brass-colored pocket watch, which upon opening, turned out to be a compass. The compass is simple to use; the direction the needle points to is the suspected location containing the "Ancient God: Radiant Dragon" power.

Although Luviya wasn’t sure of the tool’s accuracy, it could at least provide some help.

So an hour later, when Shard met the Witch at the Belindel Estate in Moon Bay, he mentioned that apart from the metal divination card fused with Golden Dragon Scale she had given him, he now had a new "Dragon Scale Detector."

At first, the proud Grand Witch of "Fate" was of course unconcerned:

"The divination card I gave you is enough, others don’t understand Moon Bay, much less the Ancient God’s power."

"It was made by a diviner friend of mine from out of town, yes, the Female Sorcerer I mentioned."

Thus, the Grand Witch of Fate’s competitive spirit was stirred. While Miss Matilda, the Maid, looked at Shard with a strange expression, the Countess raised her graceful neck:

"That sounds really interesting, may I take a look at what that diviner made? I’m very curious about it."

So Shard handed over the compass styled as a pocket watch made by Luviya. The Countess clicked open the watch cover, and placed the Roder Disc in her palm. She spun around twice on the spot, then cast two simple incantations to inspect the alchemical item.

She frowned deeply, feeling that things were not quite as she had imagined. She then asked Shard to take out the "Empress" divination card. She compared the two "Dragon Scale Detectors" and pursed her lips, her brow seemed to furrow even deeper:

"You should go visit your elf friend first. This compass is intriguing; I need to examine it carefully, and I’ll return it to you later."

"Of course, no problem. Where is Emilia now? In the bedroom?"

"She’s in the basement with that little unicorn. She’s borrowing my alchemical laboratory... Speaking of which, will the Female Diviner who made the compass for you come to Moon Bay to assist you?"

She suddenly asked, and Shard nodded:

"Yes, but I’m not sure when she’ll arrive. We’ll introduce you when she comes."

So Shard went to see Emilia first. He was glad that the elf girl wasn’t just planning to spend a week reading novels.

And as Shard’s footsteps faded away, the much understanding Miss Matilda quietly asked the Countess:

"Miss, this compass..."

"It’s amazing."

She was not stingy with her praise:

"The person who made the compass understands the Ancient God’s power very well, even better than I do. I can’t open this compass, but just by observing it, I know it might not be less effective than my divination card. But the divination card is fused with a piece of dragon scale, which uses the resonance ability of seven dragon scales to achieve its detection effect..."

The Witch took a deep breath, and her apprentice asked her teacher again:

"Miss, can you guess who made this? In the field of divination studies in the material world, there shouldn’t be many people comparable to you..."

"I can’t tell who it is, but the craftsmanship clearly has traces of the Prophet’s Society."

She was still looking at that compass:

"However, in this era, most diviners in the material world, apart from special existences like me, have more or less connections with the Prophet’s Society since they set the exam questions for the ’Registered Diviner’ profession."

She thought carefully for a moment:

"It seems I have indeed underestimated others before, and rightly so. The helpers of the man I’m interested in could hardly be ordinary."

The Blonde Head Maid did not point out that this statement was actually self-praise.

"Looks like I need to prepare well. When that Female Diviner arrives in Moon Bay, I’ll have to make an immediate impression on her. There’s almost no possibility that she is of a higher level than me, and of course, she won’t be as beautiful as I am."

This wasn’t narcissism, as the Witches did have the capital to boast about their beauty.

"Miss, would you like to try a divination?"

Miss Matilda asked again, and the Witch hesitated. Since Shard came to Moon Bay, she had slightly altered her habit of divining everything because most of the time, the results of divination were no longer reliable:

"A Diviner possesses strong anti-divination traits... but it might be worth trying; I want to preview the opponent’s methods."

So the Maid fetched the divination cards, and just at the moment the Witch drew a card, far off at the Prophet’s Society on Silver Cross Avenue in Tobesk City, Luviya, who was helping a visiting lady with a love fortune divination, suddenly paused.
