Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2211: Corruption and Dragon Roar
Chapter 2211: Chapter 2211: Corruption and Dragon Roar
Mia lay on the back of the sofa, watching Shard stand by the living room window looking at the square outside. In the morning light, Shard casually took a leaf and placed it in front of his right eye. As the golden flow traced along the leaf veins into his eye, the first arcane technique mastered was "Corrupt Blood Mist".
"The effect is roughly as I expected, another area attack damage."
Arcane Technique - Corrupt Blood Mist, corresponds to the "Flesh" spirit rune. Casting requires a very small amount of one’s own blood, and the produced blood mist has a very strong corrosive effect on flesh and bones. In other words, when Shard needs to handle corpses in the future, he can directly use this arcane technique to completely dissolve the body.
Of course, since this arcane technique was given by the Tree Father, it naturally couldn’t be as simple as the effect of "Efficient Corpse Solution".
Shard can create blood mist in three ways, the simplest being to spit it directly from his mouth, next is to compress a mist cluster in his hand, and throw it to quickly spread the dense mist in all directions.
The most complex method is for Shard to use the arcane technique by "right foot stomp", guiding the blood mist to erode the earth, forming "smoke columns" around a certain range. Through this method, Shard can permanently transform a piece of land to have a constant "Crimson Decay" effect, making the earth itself capable of corroding and devouring flesh.
Once Shard chooses to use arcane techniques to transform the land, he cannot restore the earth to its original state through "cancel spellcasting". After all, his spellcasting effect is "create blood mist", and the land transformation effect is performed by the blood mist itself.
Besides a few arcane techniques and relics like Shard’s own "Power of the Earth: Healing Aura", almost nothing can erase "Crimson Decay". Neither the blood mist nor the effects of "Crimson Decay" have any effect on Shard himself. Interestingly, the effect of this arcane technique is not only related to the amount of spirits Shard uses but also linked to Shard’s own physical strength.
Yet, more arcane techniques should clearly be related to spiritual strength.
"But what is Tree Father doing giving me this kind of arcane technique? The Tree Father, like the Earth Mother Goddess, is a deity that protects nature. Do I look like someone who would actively pollute the earth?"
Shard completely didn’t understand.
[Using arcane techniques to transform the land is not called "polluting the earth". In this era, only the earth’s own distortion and filth can be considered as "polluting the earth". Corruption is itself a possibility of the earth’s evolution, and naturally, it doesn’t always nourish the flesh.]
"Hmm... For ordinary people, there’s no difference between the earth’s distortion and my Crimson Decay, right? Speaking of which, aren’t there too many arcane techniques associated with the "Flesh" spirit rune already? Am I particularly good at this?"
Regardless, at least the effect of this offensive arcane technique is still very good, and since the first leaf corresponds to "Corrupt Blood Mist", the second leaf would naturally be "Arcane Technique - Dragon Roar". Curious, Shard placed the second leaf in front of his eye and removed it a moment later, showing a contemplative expression:
"It seems a little different from what I imagined."
Arcane Technique - Dragon Roar, in Shard’s initial use of the "Sea of Darkness - 5180" Time Key, corresponded to the "Echo" spirit rune, but now corresponded to the "Dragon" spirit rune obtained last week. Considering that indeed the latter’s power is more suited to the arcane technique, Shard was not surprised.
He originally thought that the effect of this arcane technique was to allow himself, without transforming into a dragon and without using the "Higgs Dragon Head Stone", to spray energy from his mouth in human form... Although it sounds strange, the effect would definitely be strong. But unexpectedly, after truly mastering it, its effect had nothing to do with Shard’s guess.
The arcane technique’s effects are quite diverse. Firstly, from now on, Shard can control his own volume at will, even without exerting any force, he can make it so when he speaks, half the city can hear him... It seems useless, but on second thought it probably can be useful.
Secondly, once the arcane technique effect is activated, when Shard speaks again, his voice will naturally carry an extremely strong intimidation factor and subconsciously make people unable to help but believe him. If this arcane technique was displayed in the "Dice Story Collection", it would probably add a very high bonus to Shard’s "persuasion" and "intimidation" skills.
"I see, the persuasion ability is enhanced..."
Shard activated the arcane technique and turned from the window to command his cat
"Mia, transform into a human."
That cat didn’t even regard Shard.
"Doesn’t seem so great, does it?"
The third effect is to grant Shard the so-called "sonic attack". Shard had seen this effect in "Evil of the Deep Sea - Seven-Tailed Player". Just by making a sound with his mouth, he can create an invisible sonic attack, and both the range and target of the attack can be controlled by himself.
For instance, at Shard’s current circle sorcerer level, with just a "hum", he can make a normal person bleed from all seven orifices and become an idiot. Unlike a "Psychic Shockwave" mental attack, this simply turns sound into energy... Actually, sound is essentially the propagation of energy.
If this arcane technique were in the hands of Miss Benanis or the [Music Cult] that might know Miss Danester’s teacher’s whereabouts, it could presumably demonstrate great effectiveness. Shard can even imagine a lady singing loudly, then wiping out a large group of monsters.
But in Shard’s hands, he feels he will turn this new arcane technique into a new control-type skill. When fighting with human enemies, an occasional cough or "hum" would be hard for enemies to defend. Even if this arcane technique can only stun the opponent for half a second, for Shard who masters spatial movement, it means a significant change in the battle.
"First it was the time pause, now it’s sonic attack, recently mastered a lot of control abilities indeed."
Of course, Arcane Technique - Dragon Roar actually has one last effect, which is to allow Shard, as a human, to learn a "Dragon Language Spell", something humans absolutely cannot grasp, through listening. This is very similar to his arcane technique - Sound of Music, where only one record can be carried out at a time. But the problem is, music is everywhere, Shard can record anytime, but valuable "Dragon Language Spells" truly have nowhere to be found.
The so-called "Dragon Language Spell" is a spell system unique to dragons, and this can be viewed as similar to vampire kind talents, a talent ability exclusive to dragons. Most of the powers among them can achieve similar effects through various arcane techniques and sorcery, but some unique dragon language spells are considered quite miraculous even by Thirteen-Ring Sorcerers.
Of course, before meeting Fiona again, Shard likely won’t have a chance to record any dragon language spells. As for Miss Eles, Shard, having fully witnessed her birth process, is quite certain she is not a dragon, so she probably doesn’t know dragon language spells either.
In conclusion, after tidying up what he gained last night, Shard bid farewell to the relaxed-looking Mia lying on the sofa back, and once again headed to Moon Bay.
Since he had already concluded the story related to Miss Eles’s birth at a past time point, Shard originally thought if he appeared in Moon Bay today, that blue-eyed girl would proactively reveal herself to meet him, possibly even waiting for him directly on Saint George Stone Bridge.
But in fact, although Shard walked two blocks into the city from Saint George Stone Gate before getting on a carriage, and after the carriage arrived at Belindel Estate, he circled the estate three times, he still couldn’t see that half-dragon, half-ship girl.
Confused and worried whether she had encountered some trouble, he knew in his heart that even though the girl wasn’t a relic like Grace and Helen, she was definitely not weak. Eventually, a witch in the estate took the initiative to send a maid to call Shard into the house:
"You’ve been at the estate’s gate for an hour, why haven’t you come in?"
The Countess, with a carmine birthmark between her brows, expressed her confusion:
"I had Matilda prepare hot tea for you, now the teapot has been replaced three times, and you’re still outside. If I hadn’t felt any unusual element reactions nearby, I would’ve thought something happened around here."
"Again?"
Shard noticed this word, and the witch nodded:
"When we were attending the banquet on Thursday, didn’t an unfortunate guy melt into light? A similar thing also happened last night, and not far from here. It wasn’t indoors, it was on the street. Although I wasn’t nearby, from the house I saw a very bright light rising in the distance."
Shard thought of what Miss Danester had said:
"In the past of the Sixth Era, similar things happened, but not so frequently."
"Yes, the church reviewed the records and confirmed that these two consecutive events are almost identical to those ’melting into light’ incidents in history. At the same time, the bodies in the city’s ’serial beheading murders’ were re-examined, and it’s basically confirmed that those deceased who lost their heads also encountered the same light. However, the church still suspects that string of murders was man-made, after all, how could it be so coincidental, only the heads melted by the light."
Shard sat on the sofa in the study:
"What happened to the deceased on the street last night?"
"I heard this morning, the whole person turned into light, only leaving part of the soles and the brim of a hat, not even the remains of the body were left. Since the crime scene was under a street lamp, I think the church has to consider whether they should call on people to avoid lighting lamps at night... Sounds ridiculous, but it is the most effective and direct way to protect oneself. And the excuse is easy to find — conserving energy."
The witch also slightly sighed:
"The times are truly different now, darkness has become people’s refuge, and the light instead has become a murderer."
