Starting With SSS-rank: I Get A New Skill Every Livestream
Chapter 387: She is ready
The place they arrived at was not far from the temple. Since they had used a back entrance, yes, there was something like that in the temple, there was little chance of them being caught on the cameras either.
All three of them moved at a pace far beyond what ordinary human perception could follow, racing toward an abandoned park near a chemical factory.
Kyle could see the rifts about to appear around the world because of his deep understanding the Veil and his God’s Eye. So he decided to visit one of them, and give Amanda a good opportunity to showcase what she has gained.
Amanda was quite eager as well since, even if it had been around ten days since she got his blessing she knew she has advanced considerably if her magical skills were in question.
"We are here." Kyle informed them.
Only after they reached the outskirts of the park did they finally slow down.
"Hah... you two sure are fast." Amanda was gasping for breath as she leaned against a nearby pole, trying to steady herself.
Kyle crossed his arms and looked toward Veronica. "You were still holding back your speed, weren’t you?"
At some point, he had pushed himself to his limit, yet even then, he had the distinct feeling that Veronica had not been moving at her full speed.
"My magical ability was never my forte, so I focused primarily on learning how to use Genesis efficiently. With enough control, I can enhance my natural strength and speed by nearly two hundred percent."
Kyle nodded in understanding. "You know you are the only person on this entire orb who has achieved that?"
Veronica’s eyes widened slightly. "Really?"
Kyle nodded. "Most Nightwalkers awaken powerful skills. Those who don’t usually stop trying and simply carry on with their lives until they meet their end. You, however, put years of effort into mastering your body instead of relying on some extraordinary ability."
A faint flush touched Veronica’s cheeks. She was not accustomed to being praised for the discipline she had maintained over the years. People usually regarded her as naturally gifted, with many even believing she had awakened some kind of self-accelerating skill that constantly enhanced her physical attributes.
The truth was far less convenient.
She had forged that physique over years of training and countless battles, each one pushing her body a little further than it had been before.
"Really... you are amazing, Commander," Amanda said with a smile.
She had always admired Veronica for what she had accomplished despite being only around three years older than her. There had been no powerful family behind her, no influential connections and no great support waiting to lift her up. Everything she had achieved had been earned through her own strength and sheer determination.
"Now stop praising me and focus on why we are here." An embarrassed Veronica quickly tried to steer the conversation elsewhere. Praise had never been something she knew how to handle.
Kyle and Amanda exchanged an amused glance before the former turned serious.
"Well, it is about to appear soon. But before that, Amanda..." His gaze settled on her. "Are you really prepared for this?"
Amanda knew Kyle was aware of her capabilities. That was precisely why his question carried weight.
Whatever they were about to face was not an ordinary threat.
A special-grade.
She drew a slow breath, gathering herself before meeting his eyes.
"I have been waiting and training for this day. I am ready, Kyle."
Kyle nodded. "Neither of us will interfere unless your life is threatened."
He paused.
His brows rose slightly as he looked toward the empty space ahead of them.
"Here it comes."
The space before them cracked.
A sharp fracture spread through the air as though an invisible sheet of glass had been struck from the other side.
Amanda clenched her fists and lowered her stance.
Her eyes briefly traveled toward Kyle, only to find him and Veronica already moving farther away.
Huh?
DOOOM!
In the less than half a second that her attention shifted, something slammed into her.
Amanda was hurled backward. Her feet gouged deep furrows into the soil as she skidded to a halt, her arms trembling from the force she had been forced to absorb.
"Heh~ You are quite tough. I must give you that."
A figure stood several meters away.
It was a strange being with unnaturally thin arms and legs, its height almost identical to Amanda’s. Yet its presence alone was enough to make the air around her feel heavy.
Amanda’s eyes narrowed.
"A special-grade... finally."
The monster had blue skin and a cup-like mask wrapped around its mouth. Its reptilian eyes remained fixed on her, studying her with the detached interest of a predator examining its meal.
"While you aren’t the strongest meal here, I think I will start with you, considering your enthusiasm."
Amanda snickered.
"It is weird hearing a monster talk."
"Hmm. Then surely, you aren’t prepared for what is to come..."
Its figure vanished.
Amanda’s body reacted before her mind could catch up.
She crouched and drove a fist toward her right, following the instinct that screamed at her that the monster was there. For the briefest moment, she thought her fist had connected.
SWISH!
It hadn’t.
The monster slipped past the punch and struck with its claws, the attack cutting through the space beside her head. At the same time, it kicked against the air, using the force to suspend itself just above her.
Amanda had no time to raise her guard.
So instead, she activated Delayed Effect.
The attack was countered.
**DOOOOM**
Dust erupted and air trembled at the collision
At the same time Kyle’s lips softly extended as he nodded. "She is ready."
Amanda wiped her eyes, her eyes fierce and a grin stretching her lips.
The fun part was about to start
