Chapter 350: Blessed and last
"This feels different," Amanda muttered as she stared at her hand, a faint smile resting on her face.
It was surprising. Even after going at it for hours, she should have been far too exhausted to remain awake. It had always been like this with her, and that always made Amanda mad at herself that, unlike normal couples, they could barely have those pillow talks.
Yet, right now, not only was she conscious, but she was brimming with energy.
It felt as though she had just finished a good workout and was already ready to go hunting.
Yes, there was some aching here and there, but she wasn’t feeling sluggish as she should be. Not only had they been involved in lovemaking for the past few hours, Amanda hadn’t slept the previous night too.
And yet, she felt all refreshed.
A truly new and welcome sensation.
"The Blessing, as I call it, is actually just a way for me to remove the limitations placed on you and allow your body to generate more Genesis than it normally would," Kyle explained. "Before awakening, your potential depends heavily on your physical condition."
Amanda tilted her head. "You mean how healthy and fit someone is actually determines how strong they can become in the future?" she has heard about it.
"There are a few other factors, such as your genes and your exposure to the Aether World. But yes, your physical fitness vastly determines your limitations." He paused before continuing, "Regardless of those factors, even someone exposed to the Aether World from a very young age who has maintained good health for most of their life will still have certain limitations placed upon them."
Softly caressing her back, he added, "And I just removed those limitations from you."
Amanda’s brows rose. "You mean I can grow without limits now?"
The thought sounded absurd and exciting at the same time.
Like many other cadets, Amanda had always been forced to remain within a certain boundary because she had been unable to advance beyond the second grade. Her abilities remained limited, and so did her magic.
Recently, after witnessing the many dangerous beings drawn toward Kyle, she had begun to feel increasingly regretful and disappointed in herself. While Veronica could actually stand at his side and fight alongside him, Amanda feared that she would only become a hindrance if she tried to help.
She had started losing confidence in herself, plagued by the thought that she would eventually become nothing more than Kyle’s weakness. And she hated that possibility.
But now, she could finally see another path.
I have the potential to break past my limits.
The realization filled her with an exhilaration that she couldn’t explain. She was elated by the thought that she could become something more to Kyle than merely a source of comfort.
"However, you must tread carefully," Kyle continued, giving her enough time to savor the realization before bringing her back to reality. It was time she understood the limitations and consequences that came with her newfound potential. "Your body is mortal, and it cannot process too much growth at once, especially after you’ve spent so many years in a stagnant state. So start slowly. Push yourself little by little and give yourself plenty of time to rest."
His expression grew serious as he looked at her.
"Remember, resting and recovering are just as important as slaying monsters on the path of growth."
Amanda nodded sincerely. "I understand. Don’t worry, I won’t let myself off the leash."
Kyle stared at her for a few seconds before a helpless smile spread across his lips. "Why do I feel like I’m going to have to remind you of this more often?"
Amanda giggled like a child before snuggling into his arms. "Problem for you, reason for me to have my Kyle worry about me."
Kyle shook his head, already knowing there was little point arguing with her.
This girl.
With a quiet sigh, he reached over and turned off the lights.
It was four o’clock, still two hours before Amanda needed to leave. Until then, there was nothing left to do.
It was time to rest.
...
"It’s because of your stupidity that the meeting got delayed," Freya growled at the silver-haired woman who had joined them at the table, the last one to arrive.
"So many things happened, and I have been monitored closely, making it difficult for me to move about freely," Artemis responded in a flat voice, though a hint of guilt lingered beneath her words.
The last time Kyle had tried contacting them, Artemis had been unavailable. As a result, he had told them that he would only speak with them once all five of them were gathered in one place.
Naturally, they knew what this meeting was going to be about, and many of them were nervous as well.
Yet their eagerness to know how he was and finally speak with him after all this time completely overshadowed their anxiety.
For now, they simply wanted to talk to him.
"Do you think he hates me now?" asked the little girl in the black dress, two ponytails falling on either side of her face.
Her eyes were vacant and her voice deadpan as she directed the question toward no one in particular.
No one could have guessed from her appearance alone that the adorable little girl sitting among them was the primordial Goddess of Death.
Odinn exhaled slowly before saying, "Well, you have always been closer to him than any of us, both back then and when he lived as Kyle. He is bound to be a little upset that you hid things from him."
Freya nodded. "Yeah. And he has every reason to be angry with all of us. I mean, we have been making his life difficult ever since we decided to break the ultimate rule and bless him. One thing led to another, and Kyle... nearly lost everyone he cared about."
"Don’t remind me of that incident." Artemis shook her head.
The Goddess who rarely showed any emotion had been devastated back then. She had blamed herself constantly, consumed by regret that she had been unable to reach him when he needed them most.
Tyr lowered his gaze. "We all owe him an apology, but for that... huh?"
Suddenly, a familiar screen flickered into existence before them.
It was the same screen through which they had once communicated with Kyle during his livestreams.
"Why is he connecting with us this way when he can now communicate directly with our minds?" Artemis asked, but no one had an answer.
A moment later, the stream connected.
Kyle appeared on the other side of the screen, sitting calmly as though this were no different from any of their previous conversations.
Then, in an even voice, he spoke.
[I thought I should end this how it all started.]
Many flinched hearing those words, realising where this was leading to.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he added,
[The last stream you will ever see from me.]
"!!"
