Chapter 618: Big Brother’s Biggest Glazer [Bonus Chapter]

The moment the green light touched their flesh, their bodies sprouted.

Millions of tiny violent vegetative vines burst from their organs, their bones, and their eyes, instantly consuming their physical mass and dissolving the entire pack of thirty monsters into harmless falling showers of green flower petals that drifted down into the wind.

’I just need to kill them right... It’s not like we can eat these things.’

And the six-hundred-foot Dune-Serpent?

CRACK-CRUNCH!

The green light struck its titanic obsidian skull.

"GRAAAAAA!"

The beast let out a strangled muffled gurgle as its entire body turned to solid petrified wood from the snout to the tail but the petrification didn’t stop at the skull.

CRRRRRRRRRRRRRRK!

It raced backward down six hundred feet of segmented obsidian spine in a single continuous wave with the serpent’s death-scream warping mid-shriek into the dry splintering groan of green wood curing too fast, its hundreds of crimson compound eyes dimming to dull knots in petrified bark one by one, like candles being pinched out down a long hallway.

’Begone.’

SNAP!

The colossal wooden statue cracked down the center, crumbling into harmless sawdust that blew away in the winds.

RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMBLE!

The leaning crumpled thirty-story tower of the Grand Oasis Palace, its structural integrity completely destroyed by the serpent’s constriction, finally began to collapse.

Tens of thousands of tons of concrete, steel, and glass began to tilt forward, preparing to slam down directly on top of the street like an avalanche of crushing death.

"THE TOWER!" Penelope screamed, throwing her hands over her head, however the woman sighed softly, it was a gentle and almost bored exhalation.

She lightly tapped her knuckles against the blooming turf.

THUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!

The earth beneath the city violently surged.

From the asphalt, six colossal titanic roots of ancient iron-hard divine wood... each root thirty feet thick and glowing with radiant jade runes erupted from the ground.

They wove together like the fingers of a colossal wooden titan, wrapping securely around the base and the leaning spine of the thirty-story tower.

CREEEAK-LIFT!

With terrifying effortless botanical strength, the massive roots caught the falling skyscraper.

They gently pushed the tilted building back into a vertical alignment, righting the shattered tower and lifting it three feet higher into the air, perfectly stabilized and anchored by the living bedrock of the roots.

The four bodyguards stood completely paralyzed as Kenji’s mempo mask fell from his numb fingers, clattering onto the grass.

"W... who...?" Kenji whispered, his knees trembling beneath his plate armor. "She... she just caught a skyscraper with tree roots..."

The woman didn’t pay any attention to the guards as she turned her gaze back down to Lia.

The terrifying reality-bending power vanished in a single second, replaced once more by that soft, gentle, and deeply serene warmth.

Yet, as the woman looked into Lia’s eyes... noticing the distinct hair that had been described to her and the quiet stubborn tilt of the little girl’s chin that looked so remarkably like Silas... a sudden deep crimson blush bloomed across the woman’s porcelain cheeks!

’Hubby said they don’t look similar but they really do... a bit...’

Her emerald eyes darted to the side, her long elegant fingers suddenly fidgeting awkwardly with the silver silk of her sash.

She looked flustered like a young maiden being introduced to her lover’s family for the very first time.

"My... my name is Eluned," she stammered softly, her voice carrying a sweet melodious thoroughly flustered pitch that sounded completely out of place for someone who had just erased a leviathan with a blink.

She swallowed gently, her blush deepening until it reached the tips of her ears with her hands folding neatly over her lap.

"I am the Former Spirit of the World Tree... and the very first Hero that Lord Silas summoned when he stepped onto the soil of the Sovereign Realm."

Eluned paused while taking a tiny trembling breath, her emerald eyes looking down at Lia with earnest sincerity.

"And... and I am... his wife."

Lia sat frozen on the grass as her large dark eyes blinked once... twice and three times...

’H...’

Lia’s brain completely short-circuited.

’H-HUH?!’

Her fingers, which had been clutching the hem of her skirt, remained locked in place as her dark eyes darted between the serene divine woman kneeling before her and the titanic living wooden roots that held the leaning thirty-story Grand Oasis Palace aloft.

"W-Wife?" Lia finally squeaked, her voice cracking on the single syllable.

Her mind, already strained by the terrifying plummet through the air, violently refused to process the information. "You... you’re married to Silas? My brother? The Silas who used to eat burnt toast so I could have the crusts without charcoal on them?"

Eluned let out a light melodious chuckle that sounded like the rustle of fresh leaves caught in a spring breeze.

FWOOOOOOSH!

She didn’t rise from the grass.

With an effortless imperceptible flick of her pale wrist, a massive translucent ripple of radiant emerald mana expanded outward from her frame.

It swept through the surrounding four-block radius like a rising tide of concentrated life-force.

The dozens of chittering crawlers, barbed drakes, and winged scavengers descending from the broken clouds didn’t even have the chance to screech.

The instant the green wave washed over them, blooming floral vines erupted from their eyes, their ribs, and their joints.

In less than half a heartbeat, twenty high-tier monstrosities were swallowed whole with their flesh dissolving into showers of fragrant white blossom petals that drifted harmlessly down to the street.

The four bodyguards, still standing in a stunned half-circle with their weapons drawn, flinched at the terrifying ease of the slaughter.

Kenji simply swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he slowly lowered his blade, realizing that any defense they could offer was utterly trivial compared to the woman casually tending to the children.

Eluned turned back to Lia, her deep luminous green eyes softening with unmistakable warmth.

"Indeed," Eluned confirmed, nodding with graceful composure. "I am his lawfully bound companion... In every sense recognized by the laws of our realm, I am Lord Silas’s wife."

Lia’s face contorted.

Her eyebrows drew together, her nose wrinkling as she looked the breathtaking ethereal deity up and down.

"Why... why would you settle for him?" Lia blurted out, her genuine bewilderment overriding any sense of decorum. "Look at you! You look like a fairy queen from a storybook! You caught a skyscraper with tree roots! Silas is just... Silas!"

A soft dreamy sigh escaped Eluned’s lips.

She pressed both hands to her cheeks, her porcelain skin flushing with a brilliant radiant pink that seemed to make the surrounding flowers glow brighter.

"Oh, but that is the very heart of his boundless magnificence!" Eluned gushed, her voice pitching upward into breathless worshipful adoration. "Lord Silas possesses the resolve of a primordial titan! In the Sovereign Realm, he walks among terrors with the calm stride of an uncrowned King! He does not bend to the whims of anyone... he commands the earth with a brilliant intellect that outmatches the oldest scholars of our era and yet... despite wielding the authority to overturn empires, his heart remains pure and selfless too! Every coin he hoards, every scrap he claims, is dedicated to shielding his loved ones from the cold! He is so gentle, so fierce, so impossibly handsome when his brow furrows in concentration..."

Lia’s face scrunched up in complete disgust.

She leaned backward, her lips curling into an expression of mortification.

To hear such a beautiful woman wax poetic about her brooding older brother was an assault she was thoroughly unprepared for.

’Gross,’ Lia thought, shivering. ’She’s completely blind... She actually thinks he’s a prince!’

"Wait a second," Lia interrupted, holding up a small hand to halt the torrent of unhinged praise before Eluned could start describing Silas’s jawline. "Where’s your ring?"

Eluned blinked, her dreamy reverie pausing mid-breath. "A... a ring...?"

"Yeah, a ring!" Lia pointed at her own left ring finger. "When people get married in the real world, you exchange rings... A gold or silver band on this finger right here. It proves that you’re married and that nobody else can hit on you. If you’re really his wife, Silas would have given you one."

"Oh!" Eluned’s emerald eyes widened in sudden realization. "The token of binding!"

She lifted her left hand, turning her slender, elegant fingers toward the light.

Resting upon her fourth finger was a delicate band woven from living, petrified celestial vine, cradling a single flawless mana diamond that burned with an inner emerald fire.

With a proud flustered smile, Eluned gently reached up with her other hand, adjusting the delicate leaf-shaped emerald necklace resting against her collarbone.

The gem sat directly over her heart, carved with runes that mirrored the ring perfectly.

"Lord Silas placed this upon my hand not too long ago," Eluned murmured, her voice dipping into a shy tender whisper as she admired the jewel. "He told me that as long as this stone remains intact, his presence would never leave my side..."

Lia stared at the ring then she stared at the necklace.

Her jaw dropped.

’He... he actually bought her a mana diamond?!’ Lia’s thoughts screamed. ’Eh?! Why doesn’t he get me one and a new phone too?!’

Before Lia could voice her mounting existential crisis, a sudden frantic rustle of silk cut through the quiet.

"BIG SIS!"

Penelope had completely ignored the celestial garden, the defeated serpent, and the ongoing conversation.

Her wide purple eyes had landed upon the figure lying slumped against the base of one of the massive wooden roots five paces away.

Penelope sprinted across the turf, practically throwing herself onto the grass.

She wrapped both of her small arms around the unconscious woman, burying her face into Harper’s charcoal suit jacket, weeping with raw violent relief.

"Big sis! Big sis, wake up! Please wake up!" Penelope sobbed, her fingers trembling as she patted Harper’s pale cheeks.

Harper didn’t wake, but her chest rose and fell in a deep peaceful rhythm.

The terrifying green radiance that had plagued her features was entirely gone as her skin was warm and a healthy color was already returning to her lips.

Eluned glided over, her silver-green skirts floating soundlessly above the grass as she knelt beside the weeping eleven-year-old.

Her gentle hand came to rest softly against Penelope’s trembling shoulder.

"Be at ease, little one," Eluned said softly, her voice carrying an innate soothing frequency that slowed Penelope’s heartbeat. "Your sister is completely unharmed. The vile parasite that sought to violate her vessel has been eradicated down to the final thread of its existence... Lord Silas located her in the deep cavern, severed the foreign soul, and pulled her from the dark with his own hands. She is merely exhausted from the strain so sleep is the best medicine for her spirit right now."

Penelope looked up, her face tear-stained with her lower lip quivering. "Silas... Silas really saved her?"

"He did," Eluned nodded, offering a warm reassuring smile. "He promised you he would bring her back, did he not?"

Penelope clutched Harper’s hand to her chest, bowing her head toward Eluned in desperate gratitude.

"Thank you... thank you so much..."

Lia scrambled to her feet, brushing blades of grass from her sweater as she trotted over.

"Wait, where is Silas right now? If he saved Harper, why isn’t he here?"

"Lord Silas remains in the field," Eluned explained, gesturing toward the burning sky where distant flashes of starlight, gold fire, and lightning illuminated the dark clouds. "The destruction of the suppression mechanism has unleashed an unprecedented horde upon this land... My Lord and my sisters are currently locking down the primary containment sectors to ensure the calamity does not swallow the civilian populace whole... He is safe, Little Sister. His power is absolute."

She looked at Martha, who had stepped forward with a hand resting over her apron.

"My orders from Lord Silas are precise," Eluned continued smoothly. "I am to remain here and anchor this sanctuary until Lady Evelyn arrives with the extraction vessel to carry you all to safety..."

Lia blinked, tilting her head.

"Evelyn? How is Evelyn going to get here? The trains and the public skyways are shut down!"

Eluned tilted her head in mild confusion, her finger tapping her chin thoughtfully.

"How...? Well, I am not entirely versed in mortal travel terminology, but... I believe My Lord mentioned something about her arriving in a ’private supersonic jet’?"

The entire street fell into a dead suffocating silence.
