Chapter 494: The Nexus Does It’s Job [II / Bonus Chapter]

The mechanical majesty of the Sovereign Distribution Nexus hung in the air, illuminated by the soft glow of azure runes.

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

Silas brought his hands together in a slow appreciative clap.

Beside him, Aeliana stood frozen, her delicate hands raised mid-clap with her striking silver-gold eyes wide as dinner plates as she stared up at the towering multi-tiered walls of the vault.

In less than a fraction of a second, the Nexus had dematerialized hundreds of tons of high-grade ores, processed their chemical purities, and shelved every single grain of star-iron, deep-earth alloy, and uncut mana diamonds into their exact containment coordinates.

’It didn’t just sort them...’ Aeliana thought, a sudden cold panic squeezing her chest as her pointed ears twitched beneath her golden hair. ’It analyzed the spatial frequencies of thirty distinct mineral variants simultaneously. I... I can barely maintain spatial cohesion over five different mass-signatures without a bit of strain. Is... is this machine going to replace me? Am I going to be obsolete in Blessed Land?’

A warm weight suddenly settled onto the crown of her head.

Silas chuckled softly, his broad calloused hand gently ruffling the soft golden strands between her pointed ears.

The soothing warmth of his Gold Core bled into his touch, grounding her spiraling thoughts in an instant.

"Calm down, Aeli," Silas murmured with the damp ends of his dark hair brushing his collar. "No machine is taking your job... The Nexus can sort what’s already here, but it doesn’t have legs, and it certainly can’t bend space across a battlefield to pull my minerals out of a blizzard. You’re irreplaceable so don’t let a bunch of brass tubes and gears hurt your pride."

Aeliana’s breath hitched.

A furious rose bloom exploded across her porcelain cheeks, traveling all the way to the delicate tips of her ears.

She lowered her chin, staring down at the polished floorboards with her fingers nervously twisting the fabric of her fine silver-and-white robes.

’He... he saw right through me,’ she thought, her heart doing a fluttering dance against her ribs. ’To be so easily read by Lord Sy... how utterly embarrassing...’

"Alright, Thora, wipe the foam off your mouth," Silas called out, turning his amused gaze toward the primary control dais.

The dwarven forge master was still clutching the glowing master rune with both hands, her amber eyes practically vibrating in their sockets as she revelled in the industrial perfection of the facility.

"Do we have the complete inventory logged?" Silas asked, leaning his forearms casually against the polished alloy railing. "Every payload from today’s expedition?"

Silas loved this place.

He truly did.

Upgrading the Sovereign Distribution Nexus had cost a bit of UP, but standing here now, watching it operate, every single Upgrade point felt like a bargain.

It completely removed the logistical bottleneck that crippled normal territories.

There was no need for hundreds of weary clerks breaking their backs over ledgers, no tedious manual weighing of carats, and zero risk of corrupt guards skimming off the top.

The moment a payload crossed the threshold, the Nexus simply digested it, categorized it, and indexed it.

He glanced to the side of the central console where a translucent glowing blue holographic tab floated in mid-air.

The digital interface displayed a comprehensive, real-time breakdown of every single resource contained within the vault and the numbers updated in synchronized pulses.

’There are quite a lot, even some I’ve never seen before... truly the girls have outdone themselves.’

Both Silas and Thora held administrative authority over the system.

With a single flick of a finger, Silas could reroute items outside as well as Thora. He could summon whatever was stored here wherever he wanted in the territory.

’Tch...’

Silas let out a deep satisfied sigh with a smirk tugging at his lips.

’Again, Investing UP in this place really was worth every damn dime,’ Silas thought. ’In the markets back on Earth even before I reincarnated, logistics is king... The guy who controls the supply line controls the continent and here, it’s no different. An empire that can’t catalog its own steel is an empire waiting to be dismantled.’

"Almost complete, my Lord!" Thora shouted back, wiping a speck of chalk from her brow with her sleeve with her voice echoing off the high rafters. "This is just what the squads brought through the main gate! We’ve still got several auxiliary carts sitting in the Foundry yard from yesterday’s smelting shift. My girls are hauling them over right now!"

Silas nodded thoughtfully, rubbing his chin.

"When they arrive, make sure you keep a shipment separated from the territorial reserves. Package them into reinforced containers. The moment I go back to Earth, I’m taking a batch directly to the private exchange... We need liquid capital."

"Understood!" Thora grinned, tapping a series of glyphs on the glowing terminal. "I’ll personally calibrate the containers so we’ll pack the mid-tier star-iron and those slightly flawed Mana Diamonds! Those will fetch an astronomical rate on the open market, right?!"

"Astronomical doesn’t even begin to describe it," Silas replied, his blue eyes gleaming with cold financial ambition.

He looked like a merchant.

"High-purity mana-conductive gems are becoming a scarcity on the global stage." Silas said, he wasn’t wrong... It wasn’t that it was hard after all there were territories where ore was being discovered everyday but globally, it was becoming scarce.

"From what I researched the last time I was on Earth, everybody is clawing at each other’s throats for even a handful of mana crystals to stabilize their high-tier weaponry... If I drop fifty kilos of pristine unmarred Mana Diamonds for sale, They’ll pay until their treasuries bleed dry and it’ll fund our territorial infrastructure for the next six months."

Aeliana stepped up beside Silas with her hands folding politely over her waist as she looked up at him through her long eyelashes.

"Lord Sy," Aeliana murmured softly, her melodic voice catching his attention. "If you are preparing an export shipment, I can link up with Lady Kadi. Together, we can draft a comprehensive manifest of the specialized goods and equipment we require from the human markets... supplies and agricultural seeds for the inner greenhouse wards. Anything we need."

Silas blinked, his brows furrowing slightly as the name registered in his mind.

’Kadi...’

He had originally intended to bring the sharp-tongued Sand Mage along for the morning expedition to KB-22.

Her high-velocity earth and sand manipulation would have made quick work of the loose limestone shale but early this morning, word had arrived from the residential wing that Talira had suddenly fallen violently ill.

The dragon woman had pushed her draconic threshold to its edge during that spar against Thor.

Thor’s lightning had collided with Talira’s body after all.

Eluned had already applied her divine vitality to mend the physical fractures, but Talira’s ancient lineage was stubborn.

The dragon’s internal physiology wasn’t just healing... her mana circuits were aggressively mutating, forcefully adapting to assimilate the foreign celestial thunder energy into her own draconic bloodstream.

Kadi had refused to leave her side, sitting by the bed with cold compresses and sand-barriers to keep the fluctuating temperatures from shattering the bedroom furniture.

’Dragon bodies are biological hazards,’ Silas mused inwardly, shaking his head. ’I could catch a cold and cough but when a dragon catches an energetic fever, they risk detonating an entire residential corridor with spontaneous combustion.’

"That’s a good idea, Aeli," Silas agreed, offering her a nod. "Coordinate with Kadi... Draft the procurement list so we’re ready to move the moment I want to head back."

"Right away, my Lord," Aeliana beamed, her silver-gold eyes shimmering with quiet happiness at being useful.

KRRRRRR-CLANG!

The heavy reinforced blast doors of the Sovereign Distribution Nexus hissed open, venting a pressurized cloud of cold air into the warm illuminated vault.

Marching through the threshold came half a dozen stout muscular dwarven smiths from the primary foundry.

They were grunting under the strain hauling massive iron-banded freight crates loaded to the brim with dense freshly cooled ingots of refined Deep-Earth Alloy and shimmering chunks of raw mythril.

"Make way! Heavy haul coming through!" the lead dwarf barked.

"Bring ’em straight in, girls!" Thora yelled from the dais, waving her wrench. "Right onto the intake perimeter! Don’t drag your boots!"

The six dwarves nodded, setting their stances to hoist the multi-ton crates over the threshold line.

They took exactly two steps onto the polished stone floor.

SHING-FZZT!

A wave of azure light washed over their boots.

In that single imperceptible microsecond, the massive iron-banded crates suddenly weighed nothing at all.

The heavy ingots of Deep-Earth Alloy and mythril vanished into thin air, dematerializing with a soft musical chime.

High above, on the northern storage tiers, six heavy containment shutters snapped open and slammed shut in rapid deafening succession.

CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK!

Every single ingot had already been weighed, stamped, and neatly stacked into its respective alcove.

The six dwarves stood completely frozen in the center of the intake circle.

Their thick calloused hands were still curled in heavy lifting postures, clutching at empty air with their mouths hanging slack beneath their braided beards as they stared at the completely vacant floorboards.

"Every... bloody... time," the lead dwarf muttered, her raspy voice cracking as she slowly let her empty hands drop to her sides.

She blinked rapidly, shaking her head in dumbfounded bewilderment.

"I swear by the anvil... you can see it happen a hundred times, and it still feels like the stone is mocking your muscles."

"Stop standing around like stunned badgers!" Thora barked, resting her hands on her hips with a wide toothy grin. "Stack the empty crates against the western bulkhead! Then grab your ledgers and get over here to the secondary terminal! Lord Silas needs a high-tier export batch prepped for the human markets, and I’m not letting you lazy lumps slack off while the ale is still cold!"

"Y-Yes, Master Thora!" the dwarves stammered, instantly scrambling into motion.

Silas chuckled, pushing himself off the railing as he turned toward Aeliana, gesturing toward the heavy exit doors.

"Come on, Aeli," Silas said softly. "Let’s give Thora room to manage her girls."

They walked out of the humming vault, stepping into the massive corridor that led toward the Keep’s primary entrance.

Silas pushed open the heavy exterior door leading out to the covered colonnade, pausing to look out over the courtyard.

The evening had settled in full.

The iron-gray sky had darkened into a deep bruised navy, and thick heavy flakes of snow were drifting steadily from the heavens, dusting the walls around Blessed Land in a pristine blanket of white.

The biting chill of the Umbral Basin whistled through the stonework, carrying the scent of frozen pine and clean permafrost.

Silas let out a slow, frosty breath, watching the white mist plume in the cold air.

His damp hair was beginning to feel cold against his neck.

"The temperature is dropping fast tonight," Silas remarked, pulling the lapels of his midnight-blue silk bathrobe a fraction tighter around his chest. "We’re going to need the central hearths stoked before the garrison turns in..."

Aeliana stepped up beside him, the soft ethereal fragrance of star-lilies drifting off her skin.

She looked up at his handsome tired profile, her silver-gold eyes softening with sudden shy resolve.

"Lord Sy..." Aeliana whispered, her melodic voice trembling slightly with nervous warmth. "If... if you are weary from the day’s march... I can teleport you directly into the Keep. You will not have to walk through the snowy corridors."

Silas turned, meeting her gaze.

Seeing the genuine, eager desire to be helpful shining in her eyes, his lips curled into a warm gentle smile.

"I’d appreciate that, Aeli. Thank you."

He reached out, his warm calloused fingers closing gently around her slender porcelain hand.

Aeliana’s entire body gave a violent electric shudder.

’Again...’

The simple, unhurried contact sent a jolt of pure intoxicating heat straight up her arm and into her chest.

A radiant crimson blush painted her cheeks as she squeezed his fingers, her heart pounding like a war drum against her ribs.

She closed her eyes, drawing a shuddering breath.

’Spatial alignment... Keep interior... primary sanctum...’

CRACK-FLASH!

A brilliant, blinding dome of silver spatial mana enveloped them both!

Silas blinked.

One second, he was standing beneath the freezing, snow-dusted eaves of the outer colonnade, looking out over the frozen ridges of the Umbral Basin.

The next second, the freezing draft was violently replaced by a wave of thick suffocating heat.

The air was heavy with the rich mineral fragrance of spring water, mixed with the sweet delicate aroma of lavender bath oils and crushed rose petals.

Thick, swirling clouds of white steam billowed lazily through the massive arched stone chamber, clinging to the polished obsidian pillars and condensing into tiny shimmering droplets along the high vaulted ceiling.

This was the Keep’s Grand Bath.
