Chapter 1584 - 761
Chapter 1584: Chapter 761
The ground beneath his feet was an asphalt surface with a grainy texture.
All around, multi-colored neon lights flickered.
Presented before Fang Cheng was an expansive children’s amusement park.
In the distance, a massive Ferris wheel slowly rotated, cabins adorned with colorful lights tracing arcs across the night sky.
Nearby, a carousel lit up its warm yellow top lights.
With the central axis turning, the wooden horses rose and fell, while the speakers played a cheerful yet slightly distorted electronic children’s song on loop.
Roller coasters, bumper car arenas, balloon-popping stalls...
Various amusement facilities were all present, yet there wasn’t a soul in sight.
This place, supposed to be filled with the laughter of children, now had only the mechanical operation of the amusement rides.
Amidst the dim night sky backdrop, it exuded an indescribably eerie feeling.
"Who would’ve thought that this guy, with so much blood on his hands, still has a childlike heart, turning the Spiritual Secret Realm into this?"
Looking at a pink ice cream vending machine not far off, Fang Cheng couldn’t help but inwardly ridicule.
"Breaking into a house in the middle of the night, Boss Fang, this habit isn’t very good, is it?"
Suddenly, a slightly lazy voice drifted over from the side, eclipsing the carousel’s music.
Fang Cheng looked in the direction of the voice.
Just a few steps away, behind the ticket booth, a tall figure emerged from the darkness.
It was a handsome young man with deep-set features, bright eyes, and skin even fairer than that of a female celebrity.
Unlike the previous encounters in the Secret Realm.
This time, Cheng Jiashu didn’t deliberately use Holy Light to obscure his face, openly revealing the true visage of a top idol.
However, tonight he was dressed in a flamboyant red and white clown outfit, with a polka-dot bowtie hanging around his neck, making the ensemble appear quite exaggerated and comical.
Seeing his attire, Fang Cheng couldn’t hold back a light laugh:
"Your getup is quite unique; is the big star under the spotlight secretly planning to switch careers to circus acrobatics?"
"My domain, my rules, I wear whatever I please."
Cheng Jiashu tugged at the bowtie around his neck, rolling his eyes in mild irritation, then looked Fang Cheng up and down:
"But you, it’s almost one in the morning, instead of sleeping, you’re popping by. Don’t you have to clock in at your lousy office tomorrow?"
Fang Cheng shrugged:
"Sleep for people like us is just a physiological procedure; how much actual significance do you think it holds?"
"That’s where you’re wrong."
Cheng Jiashu crossed his arms, leaning against a nearby row of iron railings, gently shaking his head:
"You know, my greatest wish since childhood has been to sleep soundly every night, with no nightmares and no disturbances in my dreams."
Hearing this, Fang Cheng’s smile gradually faded, and he fell silent.
He recalled the scenes of carnage he witnessed when he forcibly intruded into Cheng Jiashu’s dream that night.
For Cheng Jiashu, sleep might indeed be a long, tormented test of willpower.
Fang Cheng’s gaze subtly shifted, observing the multicolored lights and facilities around them, then asked:
"What was the sudden inspiration for turning the Secret Realm into an amusement park?"
Cheng Jiashu followed his gaze to the carousel, his expression momentarily dazed, as if recalling something.
Then he gently exhaled, speaking softly:
"You know, my family was once very well-off, considered a noble family of great wealth."
"My dad had a mild temperament, my mom cooked really well, and I had a younger sister, a few years younger than me, with pigtails who clung to me like a shadow every day."
He spoke with a detached expression, as if recounting someone else’s story:
"Life was carefree and pleasant then. Every end of the month, my parents would take time to bring us to the amusement park."
"My sister and I loved to fight over the two red horses on the outer ring, just going round and round, listening to that electronic song, feeling like we were flying."
Cheng Jiashu paused, a slight smirk tugging at his lips, self-mockingly:
"Back then, I was so naive and foolish, thinking those days would last forever."
"Then, the car accident happened."
He looked down and kicked a small stone by his foot.
The stone rolled across the asphalt road, making a crisp sound.
"No, thinking back now, it wasn’t an accident at all, but a long-planned murder."
Cheng Jiashu lifted his head, his pale face showing little anger, just eyes as cold as ice.
"After they died, those relatives who usually greeted us with smiles changed completely. My second uncle came with a forged will to take over the factory, and my aunt teamed up with outsiders to try to cash in my dad’s company’s shares at a low price."
"And other relatives eyed the Cheng Family’s assets, fighting over them, even eyeing my mom’s jewelry like a pack of hyenas scrambling for food."
"But that was not the worst of it..."
He reached and tugged at the bowtie on his chest, seemingly feeling stifled:
"Not long after, one night, a group of unidentified thugs came to the old Cheng Family mansion. They killed on sight, setting fires everywhere."
"That fire raged so fiercely, it engulfed half the estate, with screams echoing all around."
"I was hidden by the Housekeeper in a secret compartment behind the fireplace, covering my mouth with both hands, not daring to breathe loudly."
"Not until daylight, when everything outside was utterly silent, did I dare crawl out from the pile of corpses. But my sister was already gone."
"I went crazy digging through the ruins, tearing all ten fingers to pieces, but found nothing besides charred wood and ashes."
