Chapter 1579: Chapter 758: [Part 2]
But before he went, he had to first deal with the Illuminati’s affairs and eliminate the safety hazards facing his family.
East Capital hadn’t been peaceful lately.
With several extraordinary incidents fermenting, all kinds of forces were wrestling in the shadows, and a lot of unfamiliar faces with dangerous auras had appeared in the streets and alleys.
Even the air carried the scent of an approaching storm.
What’s more, the danger from the "Ideal Land" had never truly been lifted.
Just like Cheng Jiashu being tailed—this mysterious, colossal organization had been lurking in the dark all along, eyeing him like a tiger, ready to bare its fangs at any moment and hurt the friends and family around him.
If he didn’t settle this number-one enemy, Fang Cheng felt like there was a bone stuck in his throat, never able to find peace.
His plan now was to focus on practicing all the Skills that could break through in the short term, speed up his leveling, and further raise the upper limit of his power.
Then he’d find an opportunity, grab onto some slip the Ideal Land revealed, and go on a slaughtering spree, make a brutal show of force, completely sever the claws they’d extended toward East Capital.
With a physique where all four Attributes had reached the "Heavenly Human Limit," plus the Silver Key’s ghostly, unpredictable Space Travel ability...
Fang Cheng was confident that even if that man behind the Ideal Land descended in person, he’d still have the strength to fight, at least able to advance and retreat with a plan.
Once he had taken care of all these loose ends, he could head to the Otherworld with peace of mind, searching for an opportunity to break the stalemate.
Of course, the Skill that needed the most practice among all this was still "Visualization."
This Skill determined the stability of the Inner World, indirectly governed the construction of the Domain, and was also an important means of protecting his own consciousness.
Fang Cheng was full of confidence in his formidable fleshly body, but he maintained a respectful fear toward the dangers on the Spirit level.
He knew that when his Spirit Attribute had broken past 80 points, he’d personally experienced the perspective of entering a higher-dimensional layer, witnessing with his own eyes those vast and unnameable existences.
If it had been an ordinary person, just a single glance would have scorched their brain cells, turning them into a lunatic bereft of reason.
If not for relying on Refining Qi and Transforming God to patch the deficit in Spiritual Energy back then, even if he’d made it through the Heavenly Human Limit threshold, his brain would definitely have suffered aftereffects.
Moreover, Fang Cheng had a faint premonition that when he entered the Undersea Ancient City passage and arrived at that world on the other side...
A Spirit Resilience strong enough might be the crucial trump card that decided his fate.
"Da-da-da..."
The rumble of a diesel engine rose from the sea at the base of the cliff, interrupting Fang Cheng’s train of thought.
Not far away, a fishing boat was pushing through white spray, slowly sailing out of Qingshui Bay.
Fang Cheng withdrew his gaze and rolled his neck; his cervical vertebrae let out a string of crackling pops like beans bursting.
Meals had to be eaten bite by bite, matters had to be resolved one by one; the key was to firmly keep the initiative in his own hands.
With that thought, he raised his wrist and glanced at the time on his sports watch.
It was almost six o’clock.
He still had five sets of physical training unfinished and needed to hurry back to Sea Sky Garden to wrap up this morning workout.
On top of that, today he still had to go to the Illuminati headquarters to meet a few old friends he hadn’t seen in a long while.
Lots to do, short on time.
He promptly turned around and strode down the steep mountain path toward the foot of the cliff.
.........
In the spacious, bright office, cold air was spilling out from the central air conditioning vents.
The cool airflow dispelled the summer heat, and a faint scent of agarwood drifted in the air.
A set of dark genuine-leather sofas was arranged in the reception area along the wall, and several burly men were sprawled all over them.
One man held a disposable paper cup, craned his neck and poured the scalding tea straight down his throat, then smacked his lips.
Another kept craning his head around, eyes full of curiosity as he looked this place over.
The reception area faced a whole wall of frameless floor-to-ceiling glass.
Through the bright, spotless panes, the view of the open-air terrace was laid out in full.
Dozens of valuable potted bonsai stood in scattered arrangement, all kinds of gorgeous flowers blooming in riotous color.
Just this pleasing scene alone was enough to show that the owner here had quite a bit of leisure taste.
Shifting the gaze back indoors, on the wall behind the large redwood executive desk hung a horizontal scroll reading "Spread Your Grand Ambitions," brushed in heavy ink.
The strokes were powerful, the ink dripping and full; obviously the work of a master, faintly revealing a wild ambition and domineering aura that couldn’t be suppressed.
In the center of the room stood a nearly two-meter-long ecological aquascape tank; the circulation pump was making a soft rushing-water sound.
The water inside was crystal clear, and two robust golden arowanas were gliding leisurely among the aquatic plants, their golden scales glinting brilliantly under the overhead lights.
Behind them followed a school of pure white silver arowanas, tails swaying in perfect unison.
A burly man with a face full of slab-like flesh was leaning in front of the tank, his face almost pressed to the glass, clicking his tongue in admiration:
"Looks like this Illuminati really has some clout. Even their fish tank is this fancy; the office is decked out damn lavish!"
"Da, stop pawing at things over there and get back here and sit down."
A stern rebuke came from the sofa.
The man who spoke was fat and heavyset, his whole body sunk into the sofa. His round belly stretched his floral shirt tight; the buttons on his chest looked ready to pop.
A lanky, thin man sitting to the side lounged against the sofa arm, grinning as he cursed:
"Look at you, like you’ve never seen the world—just like some bumpkin who’s just entered the city. Don’t embarrass Lord Bao here."
Beside him, a man from India with a thick cloth turban wrapped around his head even in this sweltering heat chimed in as well:
"Exactly, Da, with those clumsy hands of yours, if you smash that glass by accident, we’ll all have to stay and work off the debt today."
He spoke in a weird, accented Xia Country tongue, gesturing with both hands, looking quite comical.
"Enough, Er, and you too, Ah San, the two of you say a bit less."
The fat man called "Lord Bao" pulled out a tissue and wiped the beads of sweat on his forehead.
His pair of small eyes habitually narrowed into slits, gleaming with shrewdness and suspicion, then he turned his head to the side.
Sitting next to him was a middle-aged man with a crisp crew cut.
His facial contours were hard, a ring of bluish stubble shadowing his chin.
Even just sitting casually, his back remained ramrod straight; his frame radiated a fierce, battle-hardened air.
On the man’s left sat a youth of sixteen or seventeen.
Compared to the others, his build was much leaner and slighter; he wore a T-shirt printed with cartoon characters.
Though his features were still immature, his eyes were sharp like a raptor’s; as he scanned the surroundings, there was a reckless viciousness of a newborn calf unafraid of tigers.
This group was none other than the Black Wolf Team and Lord Bao’s crew, who had vanished from East Capital’s underground circles for quite some time.
"Old Wolf, what do you think?"
Lord Bao lowered his voice, his gaze sweeping toward the tightly closed office door:
"When we came up just now, those guards posted downstairs weren’t simple at all—stances solid, breathing long and steady, and their eyes had the killing intent of men who’ve seen blood."
"I weighed it a bit—if we really went at it, those three, Da and the others together, probably wouldn’t even be enough for one guard’s warm-up. This Illuminati, the water here runs deep."
Old Wolf rubbed his stubbled chin and replied in a low voice:
"Of course it runs deep. We only quietly came back to East Capital last month. Front foot we’d just gone to the Black Market to pick up a few handy toys; back foot, people from the Illuminati were already on us. That kind of intelligence network ability—just thinking about it makes your back go cold."
Speaking of it, this period of time had been a complete transformation for their crew.
Back when they fought over the Golden Benba Bottle at Mist Mountain, they’d all been trapped in the Lu Family Manor Array, brushing past death more than once.
Later, they’d narrowly escaped and then been drenched by a bizarre Blood Rain in the Inner World.
Although that Blood Rain had looked terrifying, it could cleanse muscles and cut marrow, sending everyone’s physical qualities skyrocketing.
Old Wolf’s transformed body had become even more powerful, and his self-healing ability had increased severalfold.
Lord Bao and the others’ Strength and reaction speed also far surpassed their past selves.
To avoid the fallout, they’d hidden out of town for several months, quietly digesting the benefits brought by the Blood Rain.
Now, with their power greatly enhanced, they’d originally planned to return to East Capital and make a big move, claim a territory and reestablish themselves.
Who knew that the moment they showed their faces, the Illuminati would come knocking.
If it had been before, faced with a mysterious organization whose background was unclear, they would definitely have turned around and walked away, never getting involved.
But this time, when that old man with glasses approached them, he tossed out a single name—"White Ghost."
