Chapter 313: Chapter 178: You’re Simply a Genius Sales Champion
"How did I do just now?" Zhao Tieying asked with a grin, her arm around Zhou Miao’s waist.
Zhou Miao nodded with a laugh. "Gao Cuihua was grinding her teeth so hard they were about to shatter. I bet she’ll have to go home and beat her son and husband just to let off some steam."
"So satisfying!" Zhao Tieying’s smile grew even wider. "My good boy, you really made your mother proud!"
She and Gao Cuihua had been at odds since they were young. When Zhou Yan was fired from the factory cafeteria and opened his own restaurant, Gao Cuihua had said plenty of snide remarks behind her back.
The woman was a real two-faced snake—all smiles to your face and whispers behind your back.
If Gao Cuihua hadn’t been there today, she wouldn’t have even bothered to have Zhou Miao pull that stunt.
A woman’s revenge can wait for neither dawn nor dusk.
This time, let her stew in her own misery!
Upon entering the village, the three of them got out of the car and went from house to house, telling everyone about the dinner party on Sunday evening and repaying the emergency money each family had lent them.
"Fourth Brother, Tie Ying, you could have waited until the New Year to pay us back. You just moved to town, and you must have a lot of expenses," Zhou Ze said, looking at the two of them.
"That’s right, we’re not in a hurry for it," Second Sister-in-law Yang Qiuju added, holding the money in her hand.
"Now that we’re in town, Zhou Yan buys everything and won’t let us spend any money," Zhao Tieying said with a smile. "So this money is just sitting with us. It’s better to return it to you sooner. That’s just how I am—I can’t sleep soundly at night when I owe someone money."
Hearing this, Zhou Ze and Yang Qiuju both smiled.
"Second Brother, Zhou Yan’s Kneeling Beef made the cover of a magazine, and there’s a feature article too," Zhou Miao said, handing the magazine over.
"Really?!" Zhou Ze’s eyes lit up. He wiped his hands on his clothes again and again before carefully taking the magazine. Looking at the bowl of beef soup on the cover, he said with a laugh, "Hey, that’s Mom’s Blue and White Porcelain Bowl! And that really is Zhou Yan’s Kneeling Beef. It looks exactly like the one he taught Zhou Hai and the others to make."
"Zhou Yan is so capable! He even made it to a magazine cover!" Yang Qiuju leaned over to look, exclaiming in amazement, her face beaming with joy.
"Look, here’s the feature article," Zhou Miao said, opening the magazine.
"What a fine young man! The photo looks great!" Zhou Ze grinned looking at Zhou Yan’s picture.
"He’s so handsome," Qiuju nodded.
"This is wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! Besides Grandpa and Wei Kingdom, he’s the third person in our family to be in a newspaper or magazine." Zhou Ze nodded repeatedly and said with a smile, "I’ll just keep this magazine as a souvenir."
"No way, we’ve only got one copy," Zhou Miao said, immediately snatching the magazine back from his second brother. "Eldest Brother and Third Brother haven’t seen it yet, and we need to keep this one at the restaurant as our prized possession."
"You’re always so serious about everything," Zhou Ze tutted.
"Next time we go to Jiazhou, we’ll buy a few more copies and give one to each family," Zhao Tieying said with a laugh. "Second Brother, you and your wife can be in charge of telling Zhou Jie’s and Zhou Hao’s families, okay?"
"You got it," Zhou Ze and Yang Qiuju nodded with a smile.
"Bye-bye, Second Uncle, Second Auntie," Zhou Momo said, waving her little hand at them.
"Sweetheart, wait a minute," Zhou Ze quickly called her back. He turned, went inside, and came back out almost immediately, pressing a handful of candy into her hand. "Your second auntie brought these back from the city a couple of days ago. Here, take them."
"Thank you, Second Uncle!" Zhou Momo cupped the candies in her little hands, her eyes curving into happy crescents. "I hope you stay healthy and happy every day."
"You’re welcome, sweetie. Come back again soon, okay? Your second uncle will save up your cousin’s candy for you," Zhou Ze said, his eyes disappearing into his smile.
That’s how spoiled the only little girl in the family was—with just a few words, she could wrap her uncle around her little finger.
They continued from house to house, and every face they met was wreathed in smiles.
By the time they were done, Zhou Momo’s two pockets were completely full.
Finally, they arrived at the Zhou Family’s Old Mansion.
Zhou Momo skipped ahead, pushed open the unlatched courtyard gate, and ran inside, yelling, "Grandma! Dabai! Huahua~~"
"That girl," Zhao Tieying said, shaking her head with a smile. She followed her in, carrying a bottle of wine from her basket, and saw Zhou Momo pressing her forehead against the calico cat, which was standing on a stool. Behind her, the great white goose had its wings spread and was gently rubbing its neck against her leg.
The calico cat closed its eyes, a soft, kitten-like purr rumbling in its throat.
"Huahua, you’re a good girl," Zhou Momo murmured, nuzzling the cat for a moment before scooping it into her arms. Then she reached out and patted the goose’s head. "Dabai, you’re a good boy too."
Zhou Miao came in after them, and a smile touched his lips as he watched the scene.
"That goose is only this well-behaved in front of her and Mom," Zhao Tieying laughed.
"It still takes a wide berth around you, though," Zhou Miao chuckled.
Zhao Tieying shot him a sidelong glance. "Are you trying to say I’m scary?"
"Not at all, not at all! It just knows who the real boss of this house is," Zhou Miao said quickly.
"There’s some truth to that," Zhao Tieying said with a slight nod.
"Oh, you’re here," the old lady said, walking out from the main hall with a bucket of pig feed.
"Mom, let me!" Zhou Miao hurried forward, took the bucket from the old lady’s hands, and headed for the pigsty.
"Grandma!" Zhou Momo looked up at the old lady and called out in her sweet, childish voice. She dug around in her pocket, pulled out a handful of candy, and offered it to her. "Have some candy!"
"One is enough for Grandma," the old lady said with a smile, picking a hard fruit candy from the girl’s hand. She looked down at her and said, "Ooh, look at our Momo, all dressed up in a little leather jacket. How stylish!"
"A friend of Zhou Yan’s brought it for her from Xiangjiang," Zhao Tieying chimed in with a smile, glancing around. "Where’s Uncle? Is he not home?"
"He had lunch and went next door to play chess. He finally found a fellow terrible player he can have a good back-and-forth with," the old lady laughed. "Zhou Yan has never even been to Rongcheng, and he knows people in Xiangjiang? Is their last name Duan, by any chance?"
