Chapter 276: Chapter 167: Her Excessive Cuteness Makes the Kitchen Shine Brightly
Zhou Yan’s spirits lifted. The quest was halfway done!
Mapo Tofu was beckoning to him.
A smile crept onto Zhou Yan’s lips. The progress bar corresponded to Sun Lihua’s mood.
It seemed today’s earnings had left Granny Sun quite satisfied, greatly boosting her confidence in Lai Fu’s inherited skills.
Great.
This quest was probably the one he was most motivated to advance and eager to complete lately.
He planned to visit Granny Sun again tomorrow. If her eyes and legs were still troubling her, he would take her to see a doctor.
As the restaurant’s current key ingredient supplier, her health was of great concern to Zhou Yan.
Within Suji, Zhou Yan couldn’t find a replacement supplier.
Lately, among the braised vegetarian dishes, the braised bean curd sticks and braised dried tofu had become star products, even more popular than the kelp.
The bean curd sticks just needed to be soaked and then cut into sections, which was incredibly convenient.
The profit was also quite considerable. It was easy money.
If the restaurant were to introduce Mapo Tofu later on, the importance of this supply chain would skyrocket.
Tofu was too fragile. Given the current road conditions, no matter how well soft tofu from outside Suji was made, it would just fall apart during transport.
Granny Sun’s perfect West Bank Tofu immediately stood out for its rarity.
"Mommy, your egg pancakes smell so good! I feel like they get tastier every time!"
"So yummy! So sweet! Delicious~~"
"Such a good girl. If you like it, Mommy will make you another one, okay?"
"Okay! I love Mommy the most!"
From the kitchen came Zhou Momo’s cheerful voice and Mrs. Zhao’s hearty, proud laughter.
The little one had woken up late today, only getting out of bed after the restaurant’s morning service had ended.
She woke up and placed her order: egg pancakes.
Zhou Yan had intended to make them for her, but Mrs. Zhao insisted on doing it, and he couldn’t stop her.
He might be in charge of the kitchen...
...but Mrs. Zhao was in charge of the house.
Zhou Yan leaned against the kitchen doorway, watching Zhou Momo sit on her own special little wooden stool. Her face, freshly scrubbed, was rosy and pink. Her hair hadn’t been combed yet, and two tufts stuck straight up from the top of her head like a pair of question marks.
On the stool in front of her was a plate with an egg pancake cut into four wedges. It was fried to a golden yellow, a little on the thick side, but it still looked quite decent.
Zhou Momo held a piece of the pancake in both hands, taking small bites. Her cheeks puffed out, making her look like a greedy little squirrel.
You could tell today’s egg pancake was delicious. The little girl’s eyes were narrowed in bliss, her short little legs dangled and swung, and the two tufts of hair on her head swayed along. Morning sunlight streamed in through the kitchen window, falling upon her.
Her overwhelming cuteness made the entire kitchen sparkle.
"Aiyo, you’re enjoying that so much. Sweetheart, how did you get to be so pretty?" Mrs. Zhao flipped the egg pancake, turning back to look at Zhou Momo, her smiling eyes filled with adoration, her tone soft and coddling.
Zhou Momo tilted her head up and said with a grin, "Because I have the prettiest, most capable mommy in the whole world, so I’m the prettiest baby too."
The smile on Mrs. Zhao’s face grew even wider. "Well said! This egg pancake is for you too, then."
"Smells great. How about making one for me, too? I’m a little hungry." Comrade Zhou entered the kitchen carrying a prepared pig’s head. He looked at the golden pancake in the pan and swallowed. "That one looks just fine."
"Get lost! This one’s for my baby." Mrs. Zhao shook the pan, used the spatula to cut the pancake into four pieces, and served it onto the plate in front of Zhou Momo.
"Thank you, Mommy~ I’m going to eat every last bite of this delicious egg pancake!" Zhou Momo declared, her eyes sparkling as she looked at her mother.
"Good girl." Mrs. Zhao nodded with a smile, then glanced at the equally grinning Comrade Zhou and said, "I’ll make you one now. Do you want it a little thick?"
"Thick or thin, doesn’t matter. As long as you’re the one making it, I’ll love it," Comrade Zhou said with a silly grin.
"Zhou Yan, do you want one?" Mrs. Zhao asked, looking back at him.
"No, thanks. I’m full," Zhou Yan said, shaking his head with a smile.
"Brother, you have to try it! It’s sweet!" Zhou Momo came over holding a piece of the pancake, raising her hand on tiptoe to offer it to him. Her eyes were full of expectation. "Really, Mommy’s egg pancakes are super yummy!"
"Well, then I have to give it a try." Zhou Yan smiled and took the piece. He tasted it—soft, sweet, and fragrant with the rich aroma of eggs. It was genuinely good. He nodded and said, "Mhm! Delicious! It’s way better than mine!"
"Should I give you another piece, then?" Zhou Momo offered generously.
"No, no, Momo, you eat it. I already had breakfast." Zhou Yan shook his head with a smile, then looked at Mrs. Zhao, whose lips were curved into a smile. "Mom, did you add sugar?"
Zhao Tieying nodded. "Yes, I didn’t add any salt, just a spoonful of sugar. I was guessing this might be how they make those baked egg cakes. How does it taste?"
"It’s delicious. Fragrant and sweet. A very inspired change of seasoning. It gives it a whole different feeling," Zhou Yan said, giving her a thumbs-up.
"It smells so good, and Momo makes it look even better. Just watching her is making me hungry. Auntie Zhao, I’d like one too," Zhao Hong said with a smile, standing at the kitchen door.
"Sure thing, I’ll make one for you too," Mrs. Zhao replied with a laugh. With a flick of her wrist, she flipped the pancake in the pan.
Zhou Yan watched this, a brow slightly raised. ’As expected of the Iron Maiden. She only watched from the side for a little while yesterday, and today she’s already learned how to flip the pan.’
’No wonder Comrade Zhou is so head over heels for her.’
Comrade Zhou got a plate for his pancake, pulled up a small stool, and sat next to Zhou Momo to eat. He took a bite and nodded repeatedly. "Delicious! Fragrant and soft. This is even better than the baked egg cakes they sell outside."
