Chapter 226: The Anti-Virus Awakens, Defying the Purge
[Weapon Status: Awakened.]
[Tier: Celestial (Anti-Virus)]
Dante gripped the dark bone hilt with both hands and swung the massive blade upward, holding the flat of the sword like a shield directly in the path of the incoming deletion beam.
"Let’s see what you can really do," Dante muttered.
The red beam of administrative code slammed into the flat of the black and white blade.
The impact was completely silent.
There was no shockwave. There was no explosion of kinetic force.
The Zenith Protocol’s combat engine entirely ceased to function.
The massive beam of deletion code hit Voidsever and stopped dead. It didn’t shatter against the blade. It didn’t reflect back into the sky like [Aegis Deflection].
The primordial greatsword was actively, aggressively devouring it.
The glowing white veins across the black metal flared with intense, blinding light as the sword absorbed the raw, administrative commands.
The weapon was acting as a sinkhole, pulling the deletion protocol directly into its own core architecture.
Above the sword, the system interface didn’t display damage numbers. It displayed a chaotic, rapid-fire sequence of localized error prompts.
[System Error: Deletion Protocol Intercepted.]
[Warning: Unauthorized Asset Integration.]
[Parsing Data...]
Dante held the massive sword steady, his boots planted firmly on the cracked floor. The physical strain wasn’t impacting his stamina bar, but the sheer, overwhelming cosmic weight of blocking a direct administrative attack was pressing heavily against his neural link.
The red beam sputtered, thinning out as Voidsever consumed the data packet faster than the Arch-Administrator could sustain the broadcast.
With a final, sharp crack of digital static, the beam vanished entirely.
Dante lowered the sword. The black metal was smoking slightly, the white veins pulsing with a satisfied, rhythmic glow.
He hadn’t just blocked a developer tool. He had eaten it.
The massive green eye in the blood-red sky above the shattered ceiling violently twitched.
The expression of the system shifted from cold fury to absolute, unadulterated system panic.
The voice whispered directly into Dante’s mind again, but the mechanical certainty was gone.
"The Anti-Virus..." the voice echoed, sounding incredibly distant. "You rebuilt the Anti-Virus."
Dante looked up at the digital eye.
The lore of the First Cycle suddenly snapped into perfect, terrifying clarity.
Voidsever hadn’t just been a weapon forged by the ancient players. It hadn’t just been a generic, world-breaking sword.
The original Gods of the server, the very first beta-testers who had realized the Zenith Protocol was a cosmic slaughterhouse had designed the weapon specifically to dismantle the system itself.
Voidsever was the cure. It was a targeted, hard-coded systemic virus designed to erase the Arch-Administrator and halt the Harvest.
And by feeding it the Chaos Orbs and the [Fragment of the Source Code], Dante had officially awakened its true, primordial purpose.
"I’m not a glitch," Dante said softly, his voice carrying perfectly up to the sky. He pointed the jagged tip of Voidsever directly at the massive green eye. "I’m the patch."
The green eye didn’t issue another warning. It didn’t fire another beam.
The sky violently tore itself shut, the blood-red clouds snapping back into the standard, pristine blue atmosphere of the dungeon instance.
The massive hole in the ceiling remained, but the Arch-Administrator’s direct presence was completely gone.
The entity had fled.
Dante slowly lowered his sword, dismissing it back into the brand on his wrist. The glowing white veins faded, returning to a dormant state.
The room was completely silent.
His squad slowly crept out from the edges of the ruined arena.
"Boss," Casanova whispered, staring at the spot where the red beam had impacted. "Did you... did you just parry a ban?"
"I absorbed it," Dante corrected smoothly, rolling his shoulders to shed the lingering tension of the encounter.
"That was a direct administrative override," Nyx stated, her hands trembling as she aggressively tapped her datapad, trying to recover the data logs.
"The system tried to forcefully execute your character data. If that sword hadn’t intercepted the code, your avatar would have been permanently wiped."
"But it didn’t," Dante said, turning away from the shattered ceiling.
He didn’t want to dwell on the near-death experience. The Arch-Administrator knew exactly what he was now, and it was terrified.
The dynamic of the server had completely shifted. It wasn’t just a game of guild politics anymore. It was an active, open war against the game engine itself.
He looked toward the massive pile of glowing loot that had spawned from the vaporized Crucible Warden.
"Let’s grab the rewards and get out of here," Dante ordered. "We won the race."
Because Aegis Vanguard had secured the absolute fastest clear time in the Crucible of Realms, the localized rewards were astronomical.
Pip the tiny dragon fluttered happily over the loot pile, practically vibrating with excitement.
He began expertly vacuuming up thousands of high-tier crafting materials, rare elemental ores, and massive stacks of raw gold coins.
Dante approached the center of the pile.
He ignored the generic Silver and Gold-tier armor drops. He was looking for the specific, server-wide milestone rewards the system had promised to the victor.
He found two incredibly distinct items resting on the stone floor.
The first was a heavy, ornate golden crown, encrusted with massive, glowing blue diamonds.
[Item Appraised: Crown of the Sovereign Realm]
[Tier: Divine]
[Type: Heavy Armor (Head)]
[Stats: +10,000 Physical Defense, +10,000 Magical Defense.]
[Passive (Absolute Authority): Grants the user immunity to all environmental hazards, movement penalties, and systemic suppression arrays. The user cannot be slowed, grounded, or forcefully displaced.]
Dante whistled softly.
The defensive stats were absolutely massive, but the passive was the real prize. With the [Crown of the Sovereign Realm] equipped, Silas’s [Holy Forbidden Suppression Array] would be completely useless against him.
He would be entirely immune to traps, gravity wells, and forced teleportation mechanics. He could walk through a hurricane without breaking a sweat.
He immediately swapped out his [Evil Dragon Helmet] for the new Divine-tier crown.
The heavy gold metal materialized seamlessly on his head, the blue diamonds glowing with quiet, confident authority.
He kept the [Evil Dragon Helmet] in his inventory for its [Dragon’s Insight] passive, ready to swap back when he needed to scout traps, but for raw combat mitigation, the crown was unbeatable.
He looked at the second item.
It was a small, incredibly intricate key forged from pure, translucent crystal. It pulsed with a faint, shifting, multi-colored light.
[Item Appraised: The Key to the Continents]
[Tier: System Artifact]
[Description: A administrative tool. When activated within a designated Capital City, this key forcefully unlocks the inter-continental transit gates. Allows the user and their affiliated guild to travel freely between the Human, Beast-Kin, Demon, Fey, and Celestial continents.]
Dante stared at the key.
The Zenith Protocol was divided into five massive, distinct continents, each themed around the major factions. Currently, all players were entirely locked into the Human continent, forced to fight over resources in places like Ironhold and Aethelgardia. The other continents were supposed to remain sealed until significantly later in the cycle.
The Crucible reward didn’t just grant wealth; it granted absolute territorial expansion.
"Sera," Dante said, tossing the crystal key to the studio head.
Sera caught it cleanly, her eyes widening as she read the item description on her interface.
"Dante," Sera gasped, looking up at him.
"This unlocks the global map. If we open the gates now, while the rest of the server is still recovering from the twenty-level penalty, we can secure uncontested access to the endgame resource nodes on the other continents."
"Exactly," Dante nodded. "The Human continent is tapped out. We need new materials if we’re going to upgrade the guildhall."
He turned to the rest of the squad.
"The race is over," Dante announced. "We won. But the Arch-Administrator is actively trying to kill us now. We can’t stay in one place for too long. We’re opening the gates and expanding the guild."
