Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered

Chapter 410: Crownward Administrative Charter 2

"Yes."

Cassian nodded.

"Good."

Aurelian waited.

His father had not contacted him just to say that.

Cassian opened another file.

"The Arcturus family council reviewed the latest Crownward reports yesterday."

Aurelian’s expression changed slightly.

"Why?"

"Because your situation is no longer temporary."

That sounded familiar.

Cassian continued.

"You now have recognized authority over several Human settlements, military responsibility for additional stations, and an expanding frontier network that the Alliance itself is beginning to treat as a real regional power."

Aurelian frowned.

"I would not call it that."

"You don’t have to. Other people will."

A document appeared.

It was an Arcturus family recognition order.

Not Alliance law.

Not ownership papers.

Internal family recognition.

Aurelian read it carefully.

The family formally recognized the Crownward March as Aurelian’s independent command domain under Arcturus’s protection, rather than treating it as a temporary frontier deployment.

He looked back toward Cassian.

"What changes?"

"Mostly paperwork."

"That usually means something important changed."

Cassian almost smiled.

"It means the family will no longer treat Crownward assets as resources that can be reassigned through normal branch authority. Ships, installations, and personnel formally attached to the March remain under your command unless you release them."

That mattered.

A lot.

Until now, the relationship had been mostly understood rather than formally defined.

The Arcturus family supported Aurelian.

But the Crownward March had grown partly through family assistance, and unclear authority could become a problem later.

This solved part of that.

Cassian continued.

"It also means future support will be negotiated as support to the March, not simply assigned as family assets."

Aurelian looked at him.

"That sounds more expensive."

"It probably will be."

"Of course."

"There is another part."

Cassian changed the document.

Aurelian read the next section.

The family was granting him priority rights over three unclaimed frontier systems adjacent to current Crownward territory, provided he could actually survey, secure, and administer them.

Not ownership.

Not free territory.

The right to expand there without competing against another Arcturus branch.

Aurelian studied the map.

One system bordered the safer route toward Survey World M-17.

Another lay near the neutral Compact stations.

The third sat along a possible future connection between Larkspur Haven and the deeper Mournveil routes.

Cassian watched him.

"Interested?"

"Eventually."

"I expected that answer."

"Why these systems?"

"Because they are the ones most likely to become part of your territory anyway."

That was reasonable.

Aurelian looked over the conditions.

"No timetable?"

"No."

"Good."

"You already have enough."

"Also true."

Cassian leaned back.

"The family council wanted to offer something more dramatic."

Aurelian became suspicious immediately.

"What?"

"A formal noble elevation."

"No."

Cassian laughed.

"I told them you would say that."

"Then why mention it?"

"Because eventually you may not have a choice."

"I always have a choice."

"In what you call yourself, yes. In what other people call you, less so."

Aurelian did not like that answer.

Cassian continued before he could argue.

"For now, the recognition order is enough. Build the March. Finish the charter. Decide what kind of government actually fits the people living there before anyone starts handing out titles."

That sounded much more reasonable.

Aurelian nodded.

"Agreed."

Cassian’s expression became more serious.

"One more matter. The Veyr family has requested a formal observer position at the next regional meeting."

Aurelian stared at him.

"Why?"

"You know why."

"Alliance politics."

"Partly."

"Seraphine?"

Cassian’s expression answered before he spoke.

"Also partly."

Aurelian rubbed the side of his forehead.

"Not yet."

"I already told them the March is still forming its own structure."

"What did they say?"

"They accepted that."

That was almost more suspicious.

Cassian smiled slightly.

"They are capable of patience."

"We’ll see."

The communication ended not long afterward.

Aurelian remained in the side room for several moments after the display went dark.

The Arcturus recognition order was still open.

It did not make him a king.

It did not give him some grand title.

It did not magically turn the Crownward March into a proper state.

What it did was simpler.

It admitted that the March was no longer an assignment.

It was his responsibility.

His command.

Something expected to last.

Astra entered quietly.

"Good news?"

"Mostly."

He showed her the recognition order.

She read it.

Then looked at him.

"Three expansion systems."

"I am not taking them tomorrow."

"I didn’t say you were."

"You were thinking it."

"I was thinking Rhoswen will ask when we attack them."

Aurelian considered that.

"That is probably true."

Astra continued reading.

"The family recognizes Crownward command independence."

"Within Arcturus protection."

"Still important."

"Yes."

She looked toward him.

"And the title?"

Aurelian narrowed his eyes.

"How do you already know about that?"

"Eirenne."

Aurelian looked toward the doorway.

Eirenne’s projection appeared.

"It was part of the document."

"You did not need to mention it."

Astra’s expression softened with amusement.

"What did you say?"

"No."

"Immediately?"

"Yes."

"Reasonable."

Aurelian closed the document.

Outside the side room, the representatives of the Crownward March were still talking about trade rules, defense obligations, survey priorities, and all the other ordinary problems that came with trying to build something that lasted.

That mattered more to him than a title.

The Crownward March did not need a throne.

It needed working routes.

Stable settlements.

People who trusted one another enough to share responsibilities.

Ships strong enough to protect them.

Rules that could survive without Aurelian personally standing over every decision.

The family recognition helped.

The regional meeting helped more.

Aurelian stepped back into the main chamber.

Across the room, Neris was still arguing about fuel distribution.

Mirelle had somehow gathered three people around a discussion about civilian representation.

Seris and Meren were comparing Helion production numbers with Larkspur’s needs.

Elowen’s remote image remained active because somebody had started asking about native crops on M-17.

Rhoswen had not returned.

That was slightly worrying.

Aurelian looked at Astra.

"Find out what Rhoswen is doing."

Eirenne answered immediately.

"She joined a patrol training exercise."

Aurelian closed his eyes briefly.

"Of course she did."

"She has not damaged anything."

"Yet."

Astra smiled.

For all the arguments, the meeting had done what it needed to do.

The Crownward March was beginning to act like one territory instead of several places connected only by Aurelian’s fleet.

There was still a long way to go.

But for the first time, they had started deciding together how to get there.
