Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered
Chapter 405: The Architecture Is Familiar 4
Aurelian looked over the growing map of the Crownward March.
"That solves a problem before it becomes serious."
"Yes," Eirenne said.
She paused for a moment before adding, "It also means I would not have to choose as often between detailed analysis and immediate coordination."
That mattered more than she made it sound.
Eirenne had never complained about how much work she handled, but that did not mean the work was small.
The March was growing quickly, and every new station, route, settlement, fleet group, and supply line gave her more information to process.
Aurelian looked at the station data again.
"What do you need before connecting safely?"
"The long-range relay should be repaired first," Eirenne said. "After that, I want Meridian to inspect the cognition matrix in person before we make any permanent connection."
"Good."
Rhoswen looked between them.
"You two agree too often."
Astra answered without looking at her.
"That is because caution is useful."
"Sometimes."
Aurelian ignored the comment and moved to the next item.
"And the route prediction system?"
Veylora answered immediately.
"I want a copy."
Selvarin glanced at her.
"We know."
"I am making sure."
Lysara looked just as interested.
The route system could end up being one of the most useful things they found here. Mournveil had always been a problem because the routes inside it changed, vanished, or became dangerous without much warning. Even experienced crews had to move carefully.
But Annex Seven had once helped manage traffic through this whole region.
If they combined its old route system with Helion’s records, Sanctuary Ardent’s maps, modern survey data, and Morozova navigation work, the Crownward March might finally turn Mournveil into something they could use regularly.
Not completely safe.
Aurelian doubted Mournveil would ever become safe.
But predictable enough for trained ships to cross without treating every trip like a gamble.
That was worth far more than finding another gun.
By the end of the day, Annex Seven no longer behaved like a hostile ruin.
The heavy autonomous constructs returned to controlled patrol routes instead of circling the station like enemies.
They placed the damaged construct they had captured under repair rather than destroying it, while the smaller maintenance machines began fixing damaged areas under new restrictions that stopped them from taking material wherever they wanted.
Lysara’s expedition docked properly for the first time.
No weapons tracked them.
No repair machines tried to cut pieces off their ships.
Eirenne gained limited access to the strategic archive and immediately began copying anything useful before anyone touched the deeper systems.
Aurelian watched everything through Lysara’s feed.
"What condition is the station actually in?"
Eirenne answered almost immediately.
"Poor."
Rhoswen laughed.
"After everything we went through?"
"It survived for centuries without proper supplies," Eirenne replied. "Several major sections are completely gone. The strategic core is stable, but most of the outer station needs major repair."
Aurelian looked at the damage map.
"How major?"
Eirenne paused.
"Meridian will dislike the answer."
"That bad?"
"Very."
Aurelian accepted that without much concern.
Annex Seven did not need to become another Helion Bastion Twelve.
It did not need a large civilian population, major shipyards, or full settlement zones.
It only needed enough repair to perform its old purpose again.
Process information.
Coordinate movement.
Watch routes.
Support commanders.
That made the project much more manageable.
"Keep the expedition there," Aurelian said. "Lysara stays in control until we can send proper engineering teams."
Eirenne nodded.
"And Selvarin and Veylora?"
"They stay too. They found the place, and they already understand more of its systems than anyone else on site."
Rhoswen raised a hand immediately.
"What about me?"
Aurelian looked at her.
"What about you?"
"The next expedition."
"We are not planning one."
"Not yet."
"Yes. Not yet."
"But when you do?"
Aurelian sighed.
"We will discuss it."
Rhoswen narrowed her eyes.
"That still sounds like no."
Astra finally looked toward her.
"It has always sounded like no."
Aurelian ignored both of them and returned to the recovered inventory.
There was no hidden super-fleet waiting inside Annex Seven.
No perfect weapon.
No single piece of technology that would suddenly make the March unbeatable.
Instead, they had found something more useful for where they were now.
A strategic support station.
A large cognition matrix that Eirenne could eventually use.
A long-range relay that could improve communication across Mournveil.
An old route prediction system.
Seventeen surviving heavy autonomous constructs.
Hundreds of maintenance and repair machines.
And another secure position hidden deep inside one of the hardest regions around the Crownward March.
That was enough.
More than enough.
Aurelian looked toward Eirenne’s projection.
She was still studying the cognition matrix files with more attention than usual.
"You like it."
Eirenne looked up.
"It would be a significant improvement."
"That was not what I said."
She paused for a second.
Then a small smile appeared.
"Yes. I like it."
Rhoswen immediately pointed at her.
"There. She admitted it."
Eirenne turned toward her.
"I could also use the additional processing power to improve fleet medical monitoring."
Rhoswen’s expression changed immediately.
"Take it back."
Aurelian laughed before he could stop himself.
For the first time since Lysara reached Annex Seven, the station no longer felt like another problem waiting to turn against them.
It was still badly damaged, and plenty of work lay ahead, but that was different from being dangerous for no reason.
The station was finally under proper control again, and its machines no longer had to keep following an emergency order that should have ended centuries ago.
Once Meridian inspected the cognition matrix and the relay was repaired, Eirenne would be able to connect safely. After that, the March’s communication and route management would become much easier.
It would also take pressure off Helion Bastion Twelve.
Until now, too much of the March’s information had been pushed through a small number of command points. That worked while the territory was small, but it would not work forever.
Annex Seven could change that.
It could become the place where route data, fleet movement, sensor reports, and long-range planning were gathered and sorted before reaching the rest of the March.
Exactly what it had been built to do.
Lysara’s voice came through the link again.
"We are also finding several smaller archive sections that might still contain route history."
"Copy everything before repairs begin," Aurelian said.
"Already doing it."
Veylora added, "Some of the old traffic records go farther into Mournveil than anything we currently have."
That immediately got his attention.
"How far?"
"We do not know yet. A lot of it is damaged."
"Then do not rush it."
"We won’t."
Aurelian looked back toward the map.
Every time they recovered another piece of old infrastructure, the region became easier to understand.
Helion had given them one layer.
Sanctuary Ardent had given them another.
Now Annex Seven was filling in the gaps between them.
Slowly, the dark parts of Mournveil were becoming less empty.
That was exactly what he needed.
Not another reckless expansion.
Not another fight.
Better information.
Better routes.
Better control.
The kind of things that made every future move easier.
Aurelian leaned back slightly and looked once more at Annex Seven through Lysara’s feed.
The station was ugly.
Half broken.
Covered in repairs from different ages.
But it worked.
Or at least enough of it worked to be worth saving.
Aurelian had sent Lysara looking for one old command-support relic.
She had found an entire command-support station instead.
That was a result he was perfectly willing to keep.
