Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered

Chapter 363: Human Continuance Matrix 3

"Some Directorate leaders wanted the entire program destroyed," Eirenne explained. "Others believed it was necessary if Humans were going to survive."

Aurelian looked over the old records again. "What did Sanctuary Ardent decide?"

"It kept the matrix, sealed the most dangerous research, and limited treatment authority to the emergency steward and senior medical staff."

Vaela’s image remained on the channel, her attention fixed on Aurelian. "So now you control it."

"Not by myself," he said. "The system still requires approval from doctors and consent from the patient."

"Those limits can be changed."

"Then we make sure no one changes them."

Aurelian turned toward Eirenne before giving the order.

"Create a permanent rule for the matrix. No inherited-pattern treatment can begin without approval from the patient, two independent doctors, the sanctuary’s civil representative, and the commander responsible for the facility."

Eirenne checked the request against the old rules.

"That is stricter than the original requirement."

"It should be."

"And if you receive treatment yourself?"

"The same rule applies to me."

Rhoswen immediately looked unhappy with that answer. "You are the commander responsible for the facility."

"Then I still need the other approvals."

Astra gave a small nod. "That is acceptable."

Rhoswen turned toward her. "You were supposed to help me make sure he actually used it."

"I will make sure he uses it safely."

"That is slower."

"Yes."

Rhoswen clearly didn’t like it, but she had no real argument left. The matrix might help Aurelian deal with the physical strain caused by his growing command rank, but that didn’t mean they should rush into using a system built during a desperate war.

Too much of the research around it had already crossed lines its own creators later regretted.

The historical archive continued beyond the old commander treatment program. It contained records of other sanctuaries built across the region, though most of their locations were missing, damaged, or too incomplete to use.

Some had been destroyed before Sanctuary Ardent lost contact with the Vhaloric Directorate.

Others had simply stopped responding, with no surviving report explaining what happened to them.

A few were still marked as sealed.

Aurelian studied the damaged map while Eirenne tried to rebuild what remained of the location data.

"How many sites might still exist?"

"Seven," she replied. "But these records are centuries old. Some of those facilities may have been destroyed since the last update."

"Are any close to the Crownward March?"

"One possible location may be beyond the deeper routes inside Mournveil."

Aurelian looked at the faint marker. It wasn’t a clear set of coordinates, only a damaged reference connected to several old travel paths, but it was enough to matter.

Lysara would want to study it.

The Destiny System might also lead him there one day, though he kept that thought to himself.

Nobody else needed to know about the System or the clues it sometimes gave him. For now, this was only an old record pointing toward something that might no longer exist.

He closed the map.

"We are not searching for it yet."

Rhoswen looked surprised. "There could be another vault."

"There could also be an empty ruin, an enemy base, or nothing at all."

"We have Lysara."

"We also have a damaged sanctuary, eighty-one thousand survivors, and a Compact leader who now knows where our territory is."

Rhoswen thought about that for a few seconds before giving in.

"Fine. We can go later."

"That is the plan."

Aurelian turned his attention back to the convoy reports. Arcturus engineering teams had begun entering the western launch halls, while medical equipment was already moving toward Vaela’s people.

The first shipments of food, power cells, shelter materials, and other supplies would soon be sent toward Larkspur Haven and Helion Bastion Twelve.

The Crownward March had gained more than another piece of territory.

Sanctuary Ardent carried knowledge from a time when Humans in this region believed they might be completely wiped out.

The people who built it had prepared for the chance that no rescue fleet would arrive and no larger Human power would ever find them.

They built shelters deep enough to survive bombardment.

They stored equipment that could help their people begin again.

They preserved medical knowledge, industrial plans, and records meant for a future generation.

But they had also made mistakes.

Their fear of losing everything pushed some of them too far, especially when they tried to keep commanders alive and useful for longer than their bodies could naturally endure.

Some of that work had helped people. Other parts had harmed them badly enough that even the Directorate eventually placed limits on it.

Aurelian would use what was safe and useful.

He would not repeat their mistakes simply because their work had survived.

Eirenne closed the main historical archive and returned the dangerous sections to their sealed state.

"There is still more information inside the matrix," she said, "but most of it concerns individual treatment plans, failed tests, and damaged project records."

"Keep the dangerous research sealed."

"It is already locked behind the new authority rules."

"Send Doctor Marr the medical sections that passed the safety review."

"She already has them."

That didn’t surprise him. Eirenne had started organizing the records the moment she gained access, and Doctor Marr would need time to understand what could actually be used without creating new problems.

Aurelian looked toward the larger system display. The Arcturus convoy now rested among Solenne’s ships, with smaller craft moving between the fleet and the sanctuary’s surviving launch halls.

The support crews had arrived expecting to help repair a captured sanctuary and care for rescued civilians.

They didn’t know that the mountain also held the remains of a much larger survival program, or that other sealed facilities might still exist somewhere beyond the frontier.

There was no reason to tell everyone yet.

The legal records, medical systems, and survival equipment belonged first to the people Sanctuary Ardent had protected for so long.

Once those people were awake, stable, and able to form their own leadership, they could decide how much of their history and technology should be shared.

Until then, Aurelian would protect it.

He left the command center with Astra and Rhoswen as the first Arcturus engineers entered the lower repair routes.

Eirenne had already marked damaged power lines, blocked access points, and the sections that needed immediate reinforcement.

For now, the work was simple enough.

Restore the shields, repair the launch halls, move supplies, treat the awakened patients, and prepare somewhere safe for them to live.

The larger questions could wait until the sanctuary was no longer one attack away from being destroyed.

Behind them, Eirenne continued sorting the recovered history while Arcturus teams spread through the newly opened sections.

Far below, the Human Continuance Matrix began preparing its first safe treatment plan for one of the awakened survivors.

It had been created during the final years of a falling power, shaped by fear, need, ambition, and mistakes.

Now it belonged to a different age.

What it became next would depend on how Aurelian chose to use it.
