Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered
Chapter 349: Saevor Drann 2
"The Compact will not accept this loss, and other Alliance families may see the sanctuary as abandoned Human property rather than territory under your command. Secure the legal records before anyone arrives. Do not allow the population registry or Continuity Vault to leave your control."
The message ended with delivery coordinates for the support ships.
Aurelian closed the recording.
"He thinks the Alliance may cause trouble," Rhoswen said.
"He thinks everyone may cause trouble," Aurelian replied.
"That sounds exhausting."
"It usually is."
Astra looked at the archive indicator.
"The legal records are still sealed inside the Continuity Vault."
"Yes."
Aurelian had planned to wait until the battle was fully over before entering it.
Taran had left the system, the evacuation was nearly complete, and the sanctuary was under control. That meant the time had come.
"We open the vault," he said.
Rhoswen pushed away from the table.
"Now?"
"Now."
"What about the prisoners?"
"Yarric is cooperating. Velik Sar and Dresk are isolated. The surrendered ship crews can wait."
Rhoswen smiled.
"I was hoping you would say that."
Aurelian looked at her.
"You are staying here."
Her smile disappeared.
"Why?"
"Because Solenne is escorting the transports, and the sanctuary’s defenses are still damaged. I need someone who can respond quickly if the prisoners try anything."
"They won’t."
"You sound confident."
"They watched their fleet leave."
"That may make some of them desperate."
Rhoswen stared at him for a moment, then sighed.
"Fine. I’ll guard the prisoners, the reactor, the command center, the cargo halls, and anything else you decide to leave behind."
"Thank you."
"That did not sound sincere."
"It was sincere."
"It sounded efficient."
Astra turned toward the exit.
"That is how he sounds when he is sincere."
Rhoswen looked between them.
"I don’t know if that helps."
Aurelian left the command center before the conversation could continue.
He and Astra returned to the hidden levels beneath the reactor, with Eirenne guiding them through the passage once again.
The sanctuary felt different now.
Before the authority transfer, the lower corridors had seemed sealed and watchful. Now doors opened before Aurelian reached them, lights brightened as he passed, and old systems reported their condition through Eirenne.
The sanctuary no longer treated him as an outsider.
That did not make him feel welcome.
It made him feel responsible.
They passed the central archive and continued deeper into the mountain.
The Continuity Vault lay several levels below, behind a section of the sanctuary that had no connection to the Compact’s upper maps.
The corridors became wider as they descended, and the walls changed from plain stone to reinforced metal.
"This area was designed to survive the destruction of the upper sanctuary," Eirenne explained. "Independent power, air recycling, water storage, and command access."
"How long could it operate alone?" Aurelian asked.
"According to the original records, thirty years at full population. Longer with reduced activity."
Astra looked toward the sealed doors along the corridor.
"What is behind those?"
"Construction machines, agricultural equipment, reserve medical units, and settlement frames."
"How many?"
"I still don’t have complete access."
Aurelian understood what that meant.
The Continuity Vault had accepted his general authority, but its contents remained protected until he completed another verification.
Ancient Humans had not trusted a single command transfer to unlock everything.
That caution had probably saved the vault from the Compact.
They reached a vast circular chamber with a door larger than anything else inside the sanctuary.
Its surface carried a simple image of a rising sun above a field.
No military symbol.
No warning.
No claim of ownership.
Aurelian stopped in front of it.
"This is the vault?"
"Yes," Eirenne said.
A small terminal rose from the floor.
The display activated and presented a line of text.
State purpose of access.
Aurelian read it once.
"To protect the sanctuary population and restore the systems needed for their survival."
The terminal remained still.
A second question appeared.
Will continuity assets be used for military conquest?
"No."
The display changed again.
Will continuity assets remain available to the protected population?
"Yes."
Astra watched the door.
"It is testing intent."
"It is testing answers," Aurelian replied. "It cannot know intent."
Eirenne examined the system.
"It can compare your answers with the command decisions recorded since you entered the sanctuary. It knows you prioritized preservation power over weapons, maintained medical checks during evacuation, and refused to pursue the withdrawing fleet."
Aurelian looked at her projection.
"That is more than testing answers."
"Yes."
A final line appeared.
Emergency steward authority confirmed.
The massive door began to open.
Air moved through the chamber as locks released one after another. Lights came on beyond the doorway, revealing a space so large that Aurelian could not see the far wall.
Rows of sealed equipment stretched into the distance.
Some areas contained heavy construction frames folded into storage racks. Others held long transport vehicles, agricultural machines, medical units, and prefabricated habitat sections.
Above them, suspended platforms stored thousands of containers marked with old Human symbols.
Astra stepped through first and looked around.
"This could build a colony."
Eirenne’s projection flickered as the vault granted her access.
"More than one."
Aurelian entered slowly.
The first inventory appeared across his display.
Twelve large settlement fabrication lines.
Forty-eight agricultural processors.
Six hundred and twenty construction frames.
One hundred and nine mobile medical units.
Thousands of habitat modules.
Water purification systems.
Atmospheric processors.
Seed archives.
Livestock genetic records.
Industrial templates.
Education libraries.
The list continued until Eirenne reduced it to categories.
Aurelian looked over the machines.
Cassian had warned him to secure the vault because other Alliance families would want it.
Now Aurelian understood why.
These were not treasures meant to sit inside a private collection.
They were the tools needed to turn empty territory into stable settlements.
With the vault, the Crownward March could expand without waiting years for outside contractors and expensive family support.
Larkspur Haven could rebuild faster.
Helion Bastion Twelve could replace damaged habitation sections.
Sanctuary Ardent’s survivors could create homes of their own rather than remain dependent on temporary shelters.
Aurelian walked toward the nearest fabrication unit.
"How quickly can we activate these?"
"Some immediately," Eirenne answered. "Others require maintenance, materials, or updated control systems."
"Can the sanctuary manufacture replacement parts?"
"Limited quantities. Helion Bastion Twelve would be better."
Astra studied one of the construction frames.
"Then we move working units first and repair the rest later."
Aurelian nodded.
That was the practical choice, but removing too much from the vault could weaken Sanctuary Ardent.
The surviving population might eventually choose to remain here, and these assets belonged to their future as much as his territory.
He would not empty the vault simply because he could.
"Create three inventory groups," he said. "One for immediate sanctuary support, one for temporary use across the Crownward March, and one that remains sealed until the survivors establish civil leadership."
Eirenne began sorting the list.
"That will leave most of the vault untouched."
"It should."
Astra glanced at him.
"Other commanders would take everything."
"They would create a problem for themselves."
"How?"
"Eighty-one thousand people would remember who stole the tools meant to rebuild their lives."
Astra’s expression softened slightly.
"Practical."
"And fair."
"Both."
A new signal appeared across the vault display.
It came from one of Solenne’s scouts.
Aurelian opened it immediately.
A distant Compact relay ship had been detected near the edge of the system. It had not attacked or approached the sanctuary. It had remained long enough to observe the transport routes, then jumped away.
"Taran left someone behind," Astra said.
"He wanted to know where the survivors were going."
Eirenne examined the relay’s path.
"It probably transmitted before leaving."
That meant the Compact now knew that the evacuation ships were heading toward Crownward territory.
Larkspur Haven and Helion Bastion Twelve were no longer distant frontier settlements outside the conflict.
They were targets.
Aurelian looked across the Continuity Vault.
The machines around him could strengthen both places, but only if he moved quickly.
"Change of priority," he said. "Prepare the first fabrication line, fifty construction frames, and six agricultural processors for transport."
Eirenne updated the inventory.
"To Larkspur Haven?"
"Split them between Larkspur and Helion. Both need defenses, housing, and emergency support before the Compact traces the routes."
Astra looked toward the vault entrance.
"And Sanctuary Ardent?"
"We leave enough here to rebuild the damaged sections and support the reserve population."
The vault had given him resources, but it had also made the shape of the next problem clear.
The Crownward March was no longer a collection of hidden settlements that larger powers could ignore.
It now held an ancient bastion, a sanctuary population, a Continuity Vault, and routes through the Mournveil Nebula.
The Compact would come again.
Other Alliance families would also begin paying attention once news of the rescue spread.
Aurelian could not stop either of those things.
He could only make sure the Crownward March was ready when they happened.
Eirenne finished sorting the first group of equipment.
"Preparation will take six hours. The sanctuary has enough cargo units to move the selected assets, but we will need additional escort ships."
"Solenne will provide them after the civilian transports are safe."
"And the Arcturus family support convoy?"
"Send them revised coordinates. They come here first."
Astra turned toward him.
"You expect trouble before they arrive."
"I expect someone to test us."
"Compact or Alliance?"
Aurelian looked across the machines waiting in silence beneath the mountain.
"Possibly both."
Above them, the last large civilian transport left Sanctuary Ardent under escort. Medical teams continued working inside the remaining halls, while repair crews restored the old defense network one section at a time.
The immediate battle was over, but the sanctuary had changed everything around it.
Aurelian had gained people, territory, ships, and enough equipment to strengthen the entire Crownward March.
He had also gained enemies who now understood exactly how much was at stake.
This time, he would not wait for them to arrive before preparing.
