Chapter 25: Start Of Their Journey

  • Next Chapter

Caelan and Eveline immediately bid their goodbyes to everyone just days after Caelan said those words.

They took that time to say goodbye to the people on the farm and inform them of their departure. The innkeeper was also surprised to hear that they were leaving all of a sudden.

"You’re really leaving?"

"Yeah. We’re heading to the capital," Eveline replied to the innkeeper with a small smile on her face.

"Well, good luck to the both of you."

"Thank you."

It felt strange saying goodbye to the village. They had only been there for a few weeks, but they had experienced quite a lot during their time there.

Before leaving, they also made sure to settle their arrangement with Alden. The two of them agreed that their business with him wasn’t ending just because they were leaving.

Alden would still buy and sell the restored produce, but there was one problem now. The crops would have to be transported much farther.

With it, Caelan and Eveline agreed to take a smaller cut on the profit. They would still be making good enough even with the cut so they don’t mind it. Aside from that, Caelan was already content with the reward he got from the mission he accomplished.

Caelan looked at his status for a moment before closing it. His level had increased after earning all those coins, and he was now Level 8. He couldn’t help but feel satisfied with it.

Caelan wasn’t entirely sure how the leveling system worked at first, but after looking through the system several times, he had already figured out the basics.

Every ten levels, he would receive a Hollow Fragment; that meant reaching Level 10 would give him another fragment, then Level 20, and so on.

Caelan couldn’t help but smile at the thought especially since Hollow Fragments were incredibly valuable to him.

Getting one every ten levels meant that he would have a steady way of obtaining more as he grew stronger. Every time he reached a milestone level too, he would also receive a bonus item with a random grade on it.

However, of course it was not that easy too. Once he reached Level 10, the amount of EXP needed to level up would increase. Instead of needing only 100 EXP, he would need 500 EXP for the next level and it would continue to increase as he reached higher levels.

For now, he just wants to focus on getting level 1o. But the system still hasn’t given him any new mission.

’I hope the capital would give me plenty of opportunities to earn EXP,’ he sighed at that thought.

Just then, Caelan reached into his pocket and pulled out the Gem of Solaris that he had hid there. He was alone for the meantime as Eveline shopped for somethings they needed to travel.

The gem on his hand caught the light as he raised it to his eye level. It was small, but it was incredibly shiny.

"This thing really is pretty." There was also a small golden glow that seemed to move inside it whenever he tilted it from one side to another.

Caelan still hadn’t sold that thing. He knew that it could be sold for a high price at any jewelry shop, but that didn’t mean he had to sell it immediately.

They were heading to the capital after all, so he thought there would probably be more jewelry shops there than here.

"Maybe I can get a better price for it in the capital," Caelan muttered.

"Let’s see how much this thing is actually worth once we get there." Caelan quickly put the gem back into his pocket.

Caelan waited for a while after putting the gem back into his pocket. He leaned against the wall outside the inn, watching the people passing by as he waited for Eveline to return.

"Eveline?" It didn’t take long before she showed up at the corner of his vision. In there, she was walking toward him with a few man following from behind, carrying several boxes in their arms.

"What the?" Caelan’s expression became unreadable. Just how much did Eveline buy that she even needed to ask for the other’s help.

"Caelan!" The moment Eveline noticed Caelan, she immediately raised one of her hands and waved at him. A big and bright smile appeared on her lips. She even jokingly swayed her hips from side to side like a little kid.

Caelan couldn’t help but laugh at it. She looked way too happy for someone who just spent a fortune.

"Did you buy the entire market?"

"No!" Eveline shook her head at she pointed at the men following her.

"I just bought some things we might need!" she exclaimed out loud, her tone filled with happiness.

"That’s a lot of things for just a few days of traveling."

"We’re going to the capital. We need to be prepared." She insisted.

Caelan could only smile. He couldn’t help but find her cute like this.

After spending so much time working together, he had gotten used to seeing Eveline tired and covered in dirt from the farm. But now, she was actually dressed nicely, with a new dress she had just bought yesterday.

"And by the way..." Eveline slowed down her speaking as a sound of a carriage getting drove around echoed soon after. From the side, a well-looking wooden carriage showed up with 2 horses in front of it.

"Our carriage is here! It will be a 3 day-ride so I hired the best one we can afford." Eveline already looked excited just by thinking of it.

"So come on, Caelan. Let’s get inside and start our journey!"

"Hahahaha. Let’s go."
