Reinhard’s eyes brightened as he scrolled through the list. None of this was for him. It was for the whole family, which honestly felt even better.

He looked toward Emily, Maki, Yuna, and Lily, who were already arguing over who got to spar first.

"Perfect."

When the spar finally wound down, Reinhard stood and brushed the dust off his clothes.

"Alright. That’s enough. I’ve got something for all of you."

Lily’s eyes lit up immediately. "Something good?"

"Very."

He raised his hand. A small Space Tear opened beside him, and several objects settled onto the grass like he’d just robbed a very specific, very high-end store.

Maki stared at the pile. "Where did you get all of that?"

"I can keep things inside my Space Tear now."

"That sounds suspiciously convenient."

"It is."

Lily tilted her head, studying him like he was a math problem she refused to solve. "Why is your Gnosis so weird? It’s like you’ve got five of them stapled together."

Reinhard grinned. "I’m just built different."

He glanced around the yard. "Then again, nobody in this family has a normal one either."

Maki paused, then laughed. "He’s got a point."

Yuna nodded. Emily grinned. Lily huffed before smiling anyway.

"Doesn’t make it less weird."

Reinhard ignored her and started laying out the rewards one by one. The High-Grade Enlightenment Grapes could sharpen their understanding of Mana itself. The Infusion Fruits would deepen their reserves. The Body Tempering Fruits would reinforce their physical foundation, assuming a certain someone didn’t eat the entire stock in one sitting.

Lily’s eyes locked onto the fruit like a hawk spotting lunch. "Can I have one?"

Reinhard picked one up and held it just out of reach. "After dinner."

She lunged for it anyway. He slapped her hand away without even looking.

"Why are you treating this like medicine?"

"Because if I hand it over now, you’ll eat three."

"I was only going to eat one."

He looked at her.

She deflated slightly. "Maybe two."

Maki laughed while Yuna shook her head like she’d seen this exact negotiation fail a hundred times before.

Reinhard lifted the Combat Enlightenment Scroll next. "This one’s different. It can compress years of combat understanding into something your body just gets. We’ll figure out who uses it later."

Yuna’s eyes brightened. "That could be huge."

"It will be."

He set the scroll aside and pulled out something that looked almost boring by comparison, a small crystal array etched with layered Mana patterns.

Maki eyed it. "What’s that one?"

"Family Training Array. It’ll repair the yard and reinforce it so training doesn’t flatten the house every other week."

Lily gasped like he’d announced a vacation. "So we can finally go all out without Maki crying about the flowerbeds?"

"I do not cry about the flowerbeds."

"You cried about the flowerbeds."

Reinhard kept going before that could escalate. The next item unfolded into a humanoid training construct, dark metal, faceless, its surface humming with faint Mana lines.

Lily circled it like she was buying a used car. "And this?"

"Fighter Mannequin." Reinhard tapped its shoulder. "It spars with you."

Yuna’s eyes brightened. "Really?"

"It doesn’t swing randomly. It reads your form and finds the weak points, then keeps hitting them until your body learns to fix itself."

Yuna considered that. "So it adapts."

"To you specifically. The stronger you get, the meaner it gets."

"So it never goes obsolete."

"Exactly. You could hit S-Rank and it’ll still find a crack in your stance."

Yuna’s whole posture changed, the kind of excitement she usually saved for theory books. "Can I try it?"

Reinhard smiled, but before he answered, his gaze lingered on the mannequin.

Something about it bothered him.

Not because the item was dangerous. Its description already explained what it was supposed to do, but Reinhard had learned a long time ago not to assume that the first description of a Reward was its complete potential.

His thoughts returned to something he had almost forgotten.

Ego.

The ability had been sitting unused ever since he obtained it. He recalled it allows certain Rewards and Relics to reveal deeper layers of their potential.

I haven’t actually tested this. His gaze settled on the Fighter Mannequin. And if there’s one Reward that might have something hidden inside it, this would be it.

Reinhard placed his hand against the mannequin’s chest. He focused on the connection between himself and the mannequin, then deliberately activated Ego.

For a moment, nothing happened.

And then he felt his soul pulsing once before Mana lines began covering the mannequin’s body lit up.

[Activating Ego.]

[Compatibility Confirmed.]

[Fighter Mannequin.]

[Deeper Potential Identified.]

[Awakening higher level function.]

Reinhard’s eyebrows rose.

[Combat Adaptation.]

[The Fighter Mannequin can analyze an opponent’s movements, habits, Mana circulation, defensive patterns, and combat tendencies in real time. As compatibility increases, the Fighter Mannequin’s combat intelligence will continue to develop.]

Reinhard slowly smiled. "So that’s what you were hiding."

The mannequin’s posture changed.

It was subtle, but Reinhard noticed immediately. The construct no longer looked like an empty training tool waiting for commands. There was a sense of intent behind its movements, as though it had finally become aware of the purpose it had been created for.

Reinhard stepped back. "Now you can try it."

Yuna immediately moved into position.

The mannequin activated, its eyes flaring as it closed the distance before she’d fully set her stance. The first exchange lasted under ten seconds. She blocked the opener, got clipped on the shoulder by the follow-up, and staggered back with her Mana circulation exposed like a seam in bad armor.

"Wait."

It hit her again.

She dodged, countered, and still took a clean shot to the side.

Reinhard watched with his arms crossed. "It’s mapping every place your reinforcement is thin."

Yuna stared at the construct, slowly smiling through the bruise forming on her shoulder. "It’s not just hitting harder. It’s teaching me where I’m wrong."

"Now you get it."

Maki leaned in, newly interested. "Anyone can use it?"

"Anyone."

Lily shot her hand up like she was back in school. "Me next!"

"Get in line," Yuna said, not moving an inch.

The family scattered toward the new toys, and Reinhard let himself enjoy it for a few seconds before his expression shifted. One item was left, and it wasn’t for everyone.

He opened a second Space Tear. A sword slid free into his grip.

Emily froze the instant she saw it.

Aeon.

Nobody spoke. Maki, Yuna, and Lily all went quiet at once, which for this family was basically a solar eclipse.

Reinhard looked down at the sword.

He had already decided it belonged to Emily, but after what had just happened with the mannequin, another thought crossed his mind.

What if Ego works on this too?

Aeon was clearly no ordinary weapon. If anything deserved a hidden layer of potential, it was probably this. Reinhard wrapped his fingers around the hilt and activated Ego again.

Nothing happened.

He waited but still nothing.

Reinhard frowned slightly and tried again, pushing more Mana into the weapon. Nothing. It was simply a sword in his hand.

Interesting.

The Fighter Mannequin had responded immediately but Aeon hadn’t at all. That meant Ego wasn’t something he could simply force onto every Reward he owned.

There had to be another condition. Compatibility? But I had none with the Mannequin? Or is it because Aeon is special?

He didn’t have the answer yet.

Reinhard lowered the sword and looked toward Emily. She was still staring at Aeon.

He smiled and walked over, holding it out. "This belongs to you."

Emily’s hand trembled as she reached for the hilt, then stopped just short of it, like touching it too fast might make it disappear.

"Reinhard."

He placed it fully in her hands.

She ran her fingers down the blade, slow, almost disbelieving. "It can’t be."

"Apparently it can."

Her eyes welled up. "You found it."

"I didn’t find it." He tapped the hilt. "I had it reforged. Took a few favors and a lot of Eclipse’s patience, but we got it back."

She pulled the sword against her chest. "You—"

She couldn’t finish.

Reinhard smiled. "All I want to hear is how much terror you’re about to cause with it."

Emily laughed through the tears. "You really are impossible."

Maki’s expression softened. Yuna smiled quietly. Lily wiped her eyes and immediately pretended she hadn’t.

"He’s impossible, but he’s right," Lily said, pumping a fist. "You’re going to wreck the Elyndor rankings with that thing."

"Plenty of people will shiver when they see it again," Yuna added.

"And plenty will cry from joy," Maki said.

Emily looked between her sisters. "You all remember?"

"Of course we remember," Maki said. "We bled for that sword too."

"You’re not allowed to break it again," Lily added, arms crossed.

Emily laughed, voice still thick. "I’ll try."

Reinhard watched her hold it and said nothing else. She’d lost so much when her Gnosis shattered. Today, a piece of that past had come back, and this time it was hers to decide what to do with.

The family spent the next stretch tearing through the rewards. Yuna kept feeding herself to the mannequin, adjusting after every hit. Maki buried herself in the scroll. Lily was already building a legal case for why her fruit restriction should be lifted early.

Emily sat off to the side with Aeon across her lap, happier than Reinhard had seen her in a long time. Then she looked at her own hand, and the memory of the spar crept back in, that strange pull where space and time had folded together.

"Reinhard."

He looked over. "Hm?"

"I want to try something."

His expression sharpened. "The new ability?"

She nodded. "I felt it during the fight. I think I can call it back."

Maki stopped moving. Yuna turned from the mannequin. Lily lowered the fruit mid-argument.

Emily focused. Purple light gathered around her fingers, and the air folded as space twisted under the pressure. Then time bent with it, the two forces weaving into something that didn’t fully belong to either moment.

Nobody breathed.

Even Reinhard’s face changed as he watched it form. It was the same sensation from their spar, except this time nothing was forcing it out of her. She’d pulled it out herself.

Emily’s eyes went wide. "It worked."

She stared at the distortion wrapped around her hand, a slow smile spreading. "I can do it again."

She pushed more Mana in. The fusion deepened and held steady for several seconds before her expression shifted.

"I can feel it."

Reinhard stepped closer. "The strain?"

She nodded. "The crystal’s helping." She glanced at the Gnosis Refinement Crystal she’d absorbed earlier. "It makes the fusion easier. I still can’t fully hold it, though."

She tried again. The distortion formed, trembled, and shattered.

Pain tore through her. Her Mana collapsed, and her legs gave out.

"Emily!"

Reinhard caught her before she hit the ground. Her sisters closed in instantly.

"What happened?"

"Is it breaking again?"

Emily gritted her teeth in his arms while Reinhard’s eyes flooded with Mana, tracing pathway after pathway through her restored Gnosis. Only once he’d checked everything twice did the tension leave his face.

"It’s fine." He looked up. "Nothing’s broken. Whatever she just did didn’t damage the Gnosis."

Emily breathed hard. "Then why did it hurt that much?"

"Because you nearly drained your entire reserve. The fusion eats more Mana than anything you’ve used before, and your Gnosis isn’t ready to sustain it yet."

She closed her eyes, then nodded slowly. "Yeah." She pressed a hand to her chest. "I can still feel it, at least."

Her voice stayed light, but the fear underneath it wasn’t hard to hear. For a few seconds, she’d genuinely thought it was gone again.

Yuna crouched beside her. "Maybe your body just hasn’t caught up to the new state yet."

"That tracks," Maki said. "It hasn’t even been that long since the treatment."

Emily looked down at her own hand. She’d gotten her power back. Now she had a new problem: she had no idea how to use it safely yet.

"Maybe I should stop."

Reinhard sat beside her, calm. "Do you want to stop?"

She hesitated. "No."

"Then don’t."

"I’m scared."

He smiled. "Good."

She blinked. "Good?"

"Fear means you understand what you’re holding." He looked toward her Gnosis. "You got a second shot at this. That doesn’t mean you have to become exactly who you were before."

Emily studied him. "That’s a strange way to put it."

"It’s still the right one."

He met her eyes. "What do you want to do now?"

She went quiet, glancing down at Aeon, then at her sisters watching her with open concern, then back at him.

"You’re really not going to tell me what to do?"

"No."

"Even if you think I’m making a mistake?"

"Especially then."

Emily stared at him before a smile finally broke through. Nobody was ordering her around. Nobody was wrapping her in cotton. Nobody was waiting for her to shatter again. Reinhard was simply there, watching, ready to catch her if she fell, while the actual choice stayed hers.

She looked at her hand once more. "I think I want to understand it."

"Then we’ll figure it out."

"Together?"

"Obviously."

She leaned into his shoulder. "Good."

Around them, the family slowly settled back into the noise of training and arguing, the problem still unsolved but no longer frightening.

Emily’s new Gnosis was still a mystery even to her, the fusion of space and time demanding more than her body could currently pay. The crystal had eased the cost, not erased it.

There was still a lesson waiting for her, not how to recover, and not how to go back to who she used to be, but how to become who she was now.

And if she learned to hold the power sleeping inside that new Gnosis, Aeon wouldn’t be the only thing she brought back from the past.
