Damon’s face twitched. Did that guy just bullshit him and disappear? Why? He couldn’t understand. What was the purpose of this meeting? He looked, and the drop of blood was still hovering.

He grasped it and tried to analyze it as much as possible to see if there was something hidden inside. But as far as he could see, absolutely nothing was amiss. It was just a drop of blood with a fragment of his bloodline.

He wanted to test it out more, but the next moment, the drop of blood acted on its own and shot into his body. As if attracted by a powerful magnet, it entered his body and mixed with his blood.

Damon tried everything to rip apart that drop of blood, but it was of no use. It completely disappeared into his blood without a trace. Even a system notification popped up.

Ding! [Bloodline Fragment Successfully Absorbed]

Surprisingly, there was no upgrade notification or no new skill notification this time around. He then thought of something and pulled up his status screen to check other things.

Damon carefully observed everything that had changed. His stats and his net mana and health were definitely higher, but that was because of all the extra stats he had poured into his body. The only thing that did not have an explanation was his bloodline stability, or rather, instability.

Damon’s pulse raced as he stared at the new number next to his bloodline. A 100,000 years! Did this mean he could now actually live up to 100,000 years?

"Longevity..." he muttered under his breath. This was a concept he would probably never be able to grasp fully.

Damon stared at the number a moment longer... and then dismissed it. A hundred thousand years. It sounded vast, endless, and almost comforting, but it meant nothing.

His gaze turned cold. Time only mattered to those who were truly powerful, those who held their fate in their hands, and he was not that. Many blades were coming for his neck, and right at this moment, his life or death depended on that.

Damon closed his eyes yet again and focused on his bloodline network.

"My liege... maybe you should rest a little first." Blood Reign immediately suggested.

However, Damon shook his head. "Didn’t you hear that guy? It’s better if we do this as soon as possible."

"That old man?" Blood Reign sounded confused.

"Mmmhmm. He might not have answered my question, but he did give a lot of other information. Soon, there are going to be a lot more people coming for us. I have a theory. I think our world right now has a lot of restrictions. Just like how that demon needed a vessel to enter our world and fight with me, perhaps other entities have already sniffed me out but cannot come for me just yet."

"I am not sure how long this sort of protection will last, but I need to hurry back. Staying out here means those restrictions are not there to hold them back. Anyone could come after me now. There are also other strange things I have noticed."

Blood Reign did not say anything. She could see that Damon was pretty much talking to himself at this point, and she did not interrupt.

"Look here, little red. You see how there are a lot of bloodline threads. Many of them are dense and strong, which means they have a significant chunk of the bloodline. Many others are weak and feeble, which means they only have a relatively smaller chunk of the bloodline. There are others in between, probably like me, not strong but not weak either. But..."

"There is no particular bloodline thread which is even a small percentage close to completion. Heck, I am pretty sure everything here is less than even 1%. What does that tell you?"

"It’s not like getting to these people is a difficult thing. I found a skill that lets me get to them. I am pretty sure there are other skills out there just like this. That shouldn’t be a rarity. They are all also most probably not hidden or anything like that. So why couldn’t anyone simply slaughter their way and gather more of the bloodline?"

Damon’s eyes opened slowly. A faint smile appeared on his lips. He lifted his hand slightly, as if tracing the invisible threads only he could see.

"They did slaughter their way through. They did devour. They did grow stronger and they failed. Something or someone is stopping them."

"Think about it. If this was just a simple race of accumulation... then by now, there should be at least a few individuals holding massive portions of the bloodline."

"But there aren’t. Everything is fragmented. Everything is incomplete and scattered. Everything is... stuck."

"And anyone possessing even a small fragment of my bloodline is not weak by any means. They must have been ridiculously strong and overpowered and yet they were all hunted. They were all stopped. Mentally corrupted or not, in the end, none of them stood a chance."

"This could only mean one thing. Someone at the very top is watching."
