Chapter 20: Light and dark

(Higher floors, Mayn castle: )

Screens flickering before them, static and dull. To some present here, the concept of a ’screen’ was foreign. To many, this was their first time seeing a place with so many of these screens.

The room had three sides, and one of these sides, the wall on their left, was covered entirely by this unique translucent mucus.

On this mucus, several worm-like wires of networks, red, blue and green in color, were spread out. It was a spider web of a network line.

On these linked living organisms, most likely some strange conductive fungus, there were round eyeballs... yes, actual eyeballs.

They were black and without pupils, so it was obvious that they were demonic eyes.

There, however, was also a certain light inside of them, so it seems like the inside of these eyes were modified with magical technology.

The entire system made a unique surveillance system, something that produced floating magic displays that showed the real time images of the different parts of the Mayn castle.

There were many things reflected in these moving images: some servants were doing their work, some people were eating, work was going on, the princesses of the castle were seen in a few of them.

However, most of these images were showing the garden area outside of the lost prince’s palace wing.

The cams were showing different angles, different filters of lights, different colours, and different wavelengths.

Some of them were black or white as well, with only a certain frequency of sound coming from them as well.

In this room, there were jars filled with brains... yes, again, actual black brains which seemed human.

The fluid they were floating inside were clear, with some of them having a darker, or some of them having a completely black transparent fluid.

These brains were the batteries that operated this particular device. It was a strange contraption, and something utterly repulsive to the people in white robes.

Their clothes were spotless, unlike the dark dusty clothes of the other figures standing on the other end of the room.

Sitting in the middle of these two were operators of the royal family trained to keep what they did here only to themselves.

However, they were merely grunts operating these machines.

The one in charge, the person in a red robe, seemingly a mage by the looks, with his face covered in the hood’s shadow, was standing in the very center of the room.

He was looking through each and every one of these screens at once with his four eyes.

Not many people knew it, but this person had six eyes. Abnormal eyes with abnormal power and abnormal abilities.

They were powerful magic in themselves. Each one of these eyes were something that can take down an entire city on their own.

But the mage used them for seeing, observing, and watching the things that one cannot see with normal eyes.

There was a certain element of unique understanding and wisdom present in it.

The mage was the oldest person present here. He was also the one that was the most loyal individual to the royal family as well as the most powerful person in the entire city right now.

He had one thing and one thing to do right now, and that was to look for the prince that went missing.

He knew there was something going on in the castle, but his priorities were straight. And both the theocracy and the Elision assassins were thankful that it was like this.

If he were to focus on them... then they did not know what would happen to each and every one of them.
