Chapter 1354: Chapter 1330: Who Is Suspect?

The pain of losing a child in one’s later years is not something the average person can bear, yet there was no sign of such heartbreak on Quan Xianglin’s face.

Standing in the morgue at the police station, looking at Quan Mingyuan’s face, the only hint of the middle-aged man’s emotions was the involuntary twitch at the corner of his mouth. If it weren’t for noticing this small gesture, Director Meisai would certainly think this person was heartless.

After ordering the preservation of the body, Meisai tried several times to speak, but restrained himself. In fact, this case is difficult to handle; the main victim is currently missing. Although there were witnesses at the scene, yet...

"Director Meisai, I think I expressed myself very clearly on the phone: When can my son be cremated? I want to do it locally," Quan Xianglin asked after a long pause.

"Mr. Quan, in fact, I also want to discuss this matter with you. Could we move to another location?" The temperature in the morgue was low, Meisai gestured at the room temperature, smiling.

"No need, let’s discuss it here," Quan Xianglin flatly rejected Meisai’s request. The invisible pressure he exerted shook the director.

"Alright then!" Considering this man’s unique status. "Quan Mingyuan is suspected of kidnapping and assault, but when we arrived at the scene, he was already deceased, so we want to perform an autopsy. From our preliminary identification of other deceased individuals, some came from other countries and are prominent figures on the wanted list, which leads us to suspect the possibility of internal strife in this kidnapping case."

"An autopsy?" Quan Xianglin’s face darkened. "My son died unexplained, and the director still wishes to leave him in pieces?"

Meisai coughed lightly, trying to say something, but Quan Xianglin himself opened the refrigerator. "From the wounds, the fatal injury is in the abdomen, and judging by the blade marks, the weapon used by the opponent was poisoned. With just this, what is Director Meisai’s reason for wanting an autopsy?"

"I..." Meisai found himself speechless.

"Although I didn’t witness the scene firsthand, there’s a consensus among normal people: If my son is a kidnapper, then why were there no ransom messages sent to the kidnapped person? Furthermore, I understand there were explosions and gunfire at the time. As a kidnapper, is there any need for such commotion? Clearly, this is a trap." Quan Xianglin didn’t spell it out clearly but he also refuted the police’s accusation of Quan Mingyuan.

"Mr. Quan, we haven’t yet made a final determination concerning Quan Mingyuan, but there is undeniable evidence that Quan Mingyuan kidnapped Murong Lengyue. As for what actually happened at the scene, we are still conducting further investigations, so please give us some time to investigate the cause of Quan Mingyuan’s death."

Quan Xianglin gazed at Meisai, his resolve undeniable, the director had his firm stance. The fact that Quan Mingyuan kidnapped Murong Lengyue couldn’t be erased. The director was not erring in his handling of the entire matter, but if the case were to be overturned forcibly, it would be suspected of pressure tactics, which is a behavior that could leave room for criticism, something Quan Xianglin won’t do. So he softened his expression, making the atmosphere in the morgue a bit less tense.

"I understand the director’s difficulties, but as a father, I will not allow you to do anything inhumane to my son’s body. I will reserve my opinions and suggestions."

Meisai exhaled deeply. "Provided the conditions permit, we will handle this matter promptly to satisfy Mr. Quan. Now, shall we go to my office to discuss further the death of Quan Mingyuan?"

Quan Xianglin nodded.

Meisai made a cup of coffee for Quan Xianglin and, after a few brief, courteous remarks, shifted the topic to the kidnapping case. He glanced at Quan Xianglin and coughed before speaking. "Mr. Quan, during your time in Palermo, is there any special arrangement for which you need police protection?"

"This time, it’s private; I hope to return to the country with my son’s ashes as soon as possible." Quan Xianglin shot a sensitive glance at Meisai, his intuition telling him this man was well-informed.

"We will do our best. If we can locate Miss Murong quickly, our pace will quicken."

"Does the director also think my analysis is reasonable?" Quan Xianglin continued the conversation from the morgue topic.

"Haha!" Meisai lowered the blinds and locked the door. This series of strange actions aroused Quan Xianglin’s curiosity, his hawk-like pupils contracted. "Mr. Quan, when we arrived at the crime scene, Young Master Quan had already died on the spot, and the only two people surviving at the scene were Murong Lengyue and Shao Qinyi. One is missing, the other is severely injured in the hospital. From my personal case handling experience, there are hidden truths among all these facts."

Quan Xianglin quietly waited for the director to continue, but after a long silence, Meisai seemed unwilling to speak further, which piqued Quan Xianglin’s curiosity even more.

"Director, feel free to speak candidly. Although my son did something he shouldn’t have, I believe his death is very innocent."

"Mr. Quan! Young Master Quan in Palermo was not without grudges formed."

Quan Xianglin sneered. "Is this the result the director has concluded?"

"I am merely being objective. We found many bodies surrounding the warehouse premises, while inside the warehouse there were four we found, excluding Young Master Quan. I am pondering one question: if Young Master Quan alone could resist the attack of four experts? Young Master Quan is a principal culprit in the kidnapping, Murong Lengyue is unharmed, while the other person is critically injured. Could this person have been Young Master Quan’s accomplice?"

"Is the director suspecting my subordinate?" Quan Xianglin directly stated, Shao Qinyi indeed raises suspicions, but from what he understands of him, he certainly wouldn’t do such a thing and has no reason to.

"It’s not suspicion! Mr. Quan should be very aware of our police procedures. When there’s even the slightest doubt, we must investigate thoroughly. Besides, several recent criminal cases in Palermo are related to these individuals. If Mr. Quan can provide some clues, I would be grateful."

"I believe I have no clues to offer you, nor will I obstruct police proceedings. Although Shao Qinyi is my subordinate, if the police have doubts, I hope you can clear them quickly."

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Quan. Should there be any further leads, I’ll contact you."

Meisai only returned to the office after seeing Quan Xianglin off, and urgently placed a call. After a moment of silence, he hung up underscored by a gloomy expression. (To Be Continued.
