Chapter 1322 You Are My Wife
Under the bright light, Xiao Lin welcomed a beautiful day. The person in his arms stirred and lazily opened her eyes.
"It’s still early, leaving already?" Last night, Xiao Lin gave Xia Xue a surprise—short-lived, yet unforgettable.
"Hmm! Another troublesome matter!" Xiao Lin planted a kiss on Xia Xue’s forehead, reluctantly falling back onto the bed, greedily inhaling the scent of her hair. "I really don’t want to get up," he muttered, whining like a child.
"You didn’t sleep much last night, stay in bed a bit longer. I’ll make breakfast for you."
Because of the incessant vibrating of her phone, Xia Xue hadn’t slept well. She knew Xiao Lin ignored those calls because of her, and judging by the persistence, it had to be something important.
"Have breakfast before you go. That way, you’ll have energy."
"No!" Xiao Lin wrapped his arms around Xia Xue’s body, refusing to let her go like a rogue. "You are my breakfast; nothing tastes better than you."
With his slightly nasal tone, Xiao Lin buried his head in the crook of Xia Xue’s neck. His newly grown stubble tickled and slightly pricked her, making Xia Xue giggle without resisting Xiao Lin’s early morning demands.
"What was the urgent matter last night?" In the room filled with their panting, Xia Xue’s curiosity couldn’t be contained.
"Murong Lengyue disappeared, to be precise, she was kidnapped, and the old man wants me back," Xiao Lin said, without intending to hide anything, showing no urgency as if he were talking about a criminal case that had nothing to do with him.
"Kidnapped?" In contrast, Xia Xue looked more anxious than Xiao Lin. "Then why are you still here? Hurry back."
"No!" Xiao Lin flatly refused, not wanting to deal with it at all. "Why do you seem more worried than I am?" He pouted childishly, tugging at Xia Xue’s hair. "The Murong Family has people; I don’t need to bother."
"No way! Officially, Murong Lengyue is your fiancée. Even if not for yourself, you should consider the Xiao Family’s reputation, or people will gossip." Xia Xue slapped away Xiao Lin’s hand, trying to persuade him.
"Xia Xue, you are my wife. Stop bringing up the fact that Murong Lengyue is my fiancée; I don’t like hearing it." Xiao Lin shouted.
Xia Xue knew Xiao Lin was truly angry and gently pecked his face. "Dear, no matter who Murong Lengyue is, you must know that whoever kidnapped her has ill intentions. Finding her early will put you at ease. I’m just afraid the kidnapper is targeting you; otherwise, why risk offending the Murong Family for nothing?"
Xiao Lin said nothing more. Xia Xue made sense. Murong Lengyue wasn’t an ordinary person. Maybe the kidnapping was just a front, but it might also be real; no one knew.
Seeing Xiao Lin silent, Xia Xue wrapped her arms around his neck, gazing at him affectionately with a smile. "Go, I don’t want you to feel guilty later because of this."
"Got it! I want fried eggs."
Guilt would certainly be there. Xiao Lin wasn’t without struggle; his stance was firm, but the gap between reality and truth couldn’t be bridged by a firm position alone. As long as he hadn’t married Xia Xue, Murong Lengyue would always be a responsibility he couldn’t shake off.
Upon seeing Xiao Lin, Xiao Zhenfeng didn’t say a word, directly landing a slap on Xiao Lin. The crisp sound made everyone else in the room gasp.
Hua Qingyi swiftly moved behind Xiao Lin, placing a hand on his arm, fearing he might lose face and explode from the slap.
Uncle Qin stood behind Xiao Zhenfeng, watching Xiao Lin with concern. The master’s anger this time was justifiable; the young master’s willfulness seemed to grow.
Murong Kun rushed overnight to Palermo, the first person he visited was Xiao Zhenfeng. Not seeing his prospective son-in-law at the Xiao Family’s villa immediately darkened his expression. His words remained polite, though the reproach was evident.
Among everyone present, only Xiao Mu seemed the least concerned.
The slap, Xiao Lin didn’t think he deserved. If it weren’t for Murong Kun’s presence, he might have truly exploded but forcibly held back.
"Mr. Xiao, there’s no need to be too angry. Young Master Xiao was just too busy to return promptly. From what I understand, Sin City hasn’t been peaceful lately either," Murong Kun said, feeling somewhat comforted seeing Xiao Zhenfeng slap Xiao Lin without mercy. Whether it was a show for him or not, the slap’s sound wasn’t faked.
"Hmm!" Xiao Zhenfeng grunted in approval. "Brother Murong, once Lengyue is found, I’ll have this kid apologize on the island personally."
"No problem, no problem!" Murong Kun smiled and waved it off. "Xiao Yue, explain the situation again to everyone."
With a serious expression, Xiao Yue recounted the situation, missing no detail. "I followed the car tire tracks to the main road, and then there were no more clues."
"Additionally, there were no signs of confrontation at the scene or on the way to the airport. It only took about ten minutes from the explosion site of the police car, so I think Miss went voluntarily, not forcibly taken."
"Did you instruct Murong Lengyue to head to the airport?" Xiao Lin asked.
"Yes, from the attack point to the airport is only two kilometers away. With pursuers behind, I had Miss go first while I held back the assassins," Xiao Yue answered earnestly, regret filling his voice.
"Two kilometers isn’t such a short distance for a woman in high heels," Xiao Lin mused. "Did airport staff see a police car come from that small road?"
"That’s right!"
"There’s a possibility that the person who kidnapped Miss Murong isn’t someone from the underworld but an actual police officer," Xiao Lin boldly proposed his hypothesis.
"The police?" Murong Kun exclaimed, huffing. "What nonsense is this, it’s preposterous."
Xiao Lin smiled without speaking. "Xiao Yue mentioned that it is only two kilometers from the attack spot to the airport. Even if Murong Lengyue, wearing high heels, encountered bandits, she would resist, but no signs of struggle were found along the way. The last figures to appear were the police officers."
Stopping here, Xiao Lin seemed to look for a convincing reason for everyone to accept his conjecture. "If you were a kidnap planner, would you let a group of police linger conspicuously for a long time?"
Murong Kun snorted again, tacitly accepting Xiao Lin’s inference. (To be continued. If you like this work, we welcome you to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations, monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please read on m.qidian.com.)
