Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 2049: Good Guy
Although the war in the Divine Descendants Star Domain had pretty much come to an end, there were still many matters to be settled across this large-sized star domain.
The legions of the Insectoids, the Dawn Empire, and the demon clans all needed time to rest and recover. Resources had to be distributed, and development plans for the future had to be arranged.
Aside from personal or emotional reasons, the main reason everyone had come to participate in the Clash of Civilizations launched by the Magus Civilization was simple—“profit”.
Endless warfare was not something ordinary beings enjoyed.
Even the demon kings, known for their fiery tempers and love of battle, were eager for a chance to catch their breath after such a prolonged war.
With all resistance now wiped out, the Divine Descendants Star Domain lay before the legions of the Magus Civilization like a delectable piece of cake.
Although every faction had already gained a rich share of the spoils, none of them were in any hurry to stop there.
Even the high command of the Magus Civilization would not object if these allied reinforcements remained in the Divine Descendants Star Domain for another few hundred years.
Sein had originally been eager to return to the main battlefield of the Magus Civilization.
However, after Marduk’s fall, Sein had obtained a precious fragment of the Ark’s core. There was also Venerable Tianyang’s blood he had collected, along with the blood crystals obtained from the demons. All of these materials held enormous research value.
Before long, he found himself buried once again in his magical experiments, unable to pull himself away.
Unlike the demons and soldiers of the Dawn Empire, who could finally relax after the war, Sein’s real work had only just begun.

Not long after Venerable Muge’s demise, Sein’s temporary experimental base received a visitor.
Sethem had come to see him.
Sein normally refused all visitors while conducting experiments. However, Sethem had brought along a gift he could not refuse—and he had also come to discuss a deal.
“These are the spoils you left behind on the overlord-level battlefield, Master Sein. I’ve brought them back for you,” the Rank Six demon king said.
A peak Rank Six divine relic appeared before Sein, along with the corpse of a Rank Five deity. A massive, bloody hole had been torn through the corpse’s chest.
The corpse naturally belonged to the God of Blazing Fire.
As for the peak Rank Six pyro-attribute divine relic, it was one of Marduk’s secondary divine relics.
Sein was slightly surprised by Sethem’s generosity.
More than two years ago, the situation on the overlord-level battlefield had been far too dangerous for Sein. Marduk himself had charged straight toward him in the Ark.
In that critical moment, Sein had been forced to hurriedly defend himself with the fortress robot. Even then, he had only survived because the Empress of Blades rescued him at the last moment.
Naturally, he had not been able to spare even a moment for the God of Blazing Fire, whom he had originally intended to kill.
Sein had therefore assumed that his abandoned prey had long since been obliterated by the overlord-level shockwaves sweeping across the battlefield.
He had never expected the God of Blazing Fire to end up in Sethem’s hands.
Sein was not wearing the Faceless Mask inside the laboratory, so the faint surprise on his face did not escape Sethem’s notice.
The demon king chuckled at his subtle reaction.
“The God of Blazing Fire didn’t die back then. He managed to flee the battlefield just before the final wave of overlord-level shockwaves struck. Unfortunately for him, the shockwaves left him half-dead. In the end, I finished him off with ease,” Sethem said, spreading his hands.
“Although I was the one who dealt the final blow, you clearly could kill him yourself back then. These trophies still belong to you. I merely helped retrieve the body. Honestly, I barely did anything.”
Sein had once saved Sethem’s life, but he had never expected the demon king to be this generous.
This was a peak Rank Six divine relic, one that even carried a trace of Marduk’s overgod-level might.
A treasure of this caliber was not something an ordinary being would willingly give away.
Marduk himself had mastered the law of demonic flames, so this divine relic was naturally extremely valuable to Sethem.
Faced with the demon king’s goodwill, Sein pursed his lips before finally saying, “Wait here for a moment. I’ll go fetch something from the laboratory.”
Before long, Sein returned and handed Sethem a large test tube filled with life mucus.
“What’s this?” Sethem asked, his demonic eyes flickering with curiosity.
“Life mucus. I collected it from the Insectoid Empress’ base. In terms of value, it should be comparable to a Golden Apple from the Magus Alliance,” Sein explained.
“I’m very grateful that you brought me Marduk’s secondary divine relic. I don’t have any other treasure of equal value to offer in return, so please accept this bottle of life mucus,” he said earnestly.
Holy crap! Sethem exclaimed inwardly.
To be honest, he had already made a huge windfall on the overlord-level battlefield. Even so, he had never truly intended to return Marduk’s secondary divine relic to Sein.
How could he possibly spit out such a juicy piece of meat when it was already in his mouth?
However, because of Sein’s special status and because they had been near the edge of the battlefield at the time, many creatures had witnessed Sethem finish off the dying God of Blazing Fire.
After weighing his options, Sethem ultimately decided to return the precious trophies to their rightful owner and earn Sein’s goodwill in the process.
Sein’s reaction proved that he had made the right choice!
The life mucus collected from the Insectoid Empress’ base was a treasure comparable to a Golden Apple! And Sein had given him such a large bottle, too!
Just look at those descriptions.
The Sein standing before him was clearly not someone Sethem could afford to offend.
Sethem was not the kind of demon king who cared about appearances. His bold and unrestrained fighting style on the battlefield was a true reflection of his personality.
Unconcerned about Sein laughing at him, he immediately opened the vial and held it beneath his massive nostrils for a sniff.
The rich life force rising from within made even a rough demon like Sethem let out a satisfied sigh.
Normally, only their young master, Enrique Gustavo, would be entitled to enjoy treasures of this caliber.
Even if Sethem and the others managed to receive a small share, the amount would be extremely limited.
Times were hard. Competition and pressure for survival within the demon clans were fierce.
That was also why the many vassals of the Magus Civilization were so eager to defeat the Gallant Federation as soon as possible and strike it rich.
Seeing how satisfied Sethem was with the return gift, Sein quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
His gaze then returned to the peak Rank Six pyro-attribute divine relic on the table.
The dazzling crimson light radiating from it was mesmerizing.
As for the corpse lying nearby, Sein told Sethem he could keep it, even though it still contained a peak Rank Five divine relic.
Having already received such a large vial of life mucus, Sethem waved his hand and said, “I might as well be the good guy to the end. Your spoils are yours. What would people say if I took half of them? Even for a demon, that wouldn’t be right.”
“By the way... Master Sein, could we keep this matter concerning the life mucus between us?” Sethem asked tactfully after clearing his throat.
Sein immediately understood what he meant.
“No problem. This was a personal gift from me to you. Why would I go around telling everyone about it? Let this be proof of our friendship!” Sein said as he shook Sethem’s hand.
Even so, Sein remained somewhat doubtful about Sethem’s earlier claim.
Could a demon really be a good guy?
