Sovereign of the Ashes
Chapter 2017: Both Sides Severely Wounded
Mosquito Daoist’s true body had only just reformed when the Great Monkey of Destruction smashed it apart once again with his massive staff, reducing it to countless motes of blood and flesh.
Crack...!
The force behind the blow was so immense that cracks spread rapidly across the Gallant Federation’s containment barrier.
A raging storm of destructive power erupted from the center of the impact.
Caught in its wake, both the Gallant Federation’s Conqueror-class fleet and the Great Sage of Demonic Heaven were forced to halt their attacks.
Li Qingshan stood unmoving amidst the violent winds. His hair whipped wildly around him, while the two sharp horns on his head stood like spears piercing the heavens.
He turned his gaze toward Wukong’s battlefield.
With Li Qingshan’s strength, he could have helped relieve some of the pressure on Wukong while continuing to hold back the Gallant Federation fleet.
But the Great Monkey of Destruction had refused his brother’s help.
After being ambushed by Mosquito Daoist, the Great Monkey of Destruction had been driven into a complete rage.
He was determined to crush that mosquito with his own hands!
During his years as the Victorious Fighting Buddha, Wukong had heard more than once of promising young Buddhist disciples being ambushed and killed by this Blood Mosquito.
An overlord who preyed on cultivators below the Quasi Sage level[1] was not worthy of being called a Sage!
BOOM!
At the center of the shockwave, Mosquito Daoist’s true body was blasted apart once again.
This time, however, the massive staff in Wukong’s hands finally reached its limit and snapped in two.
Wukong stared at the broken Stabilizer of the Four Seas in his hands, momentarily stunned.
In truth, the staff had already suffered tremendous damage throughout this war.
First, Wukong had held it across his chest to withstand a direct strike from the Gallant Federation’s Infinity Light.
Later, after Mosquito Daoist’s ambush drove him into a rage, Wukong pulled it from behind his ear once more and used it to batter the Blood Mosquito Overlord!
The fact that it had lasted until now was already proof of the exceptional quality of this medium-tier world-class secret treasure.
Of course, this famous treasure of Primordial World had not truly been destroyed.
It had merely snapped in half.
With some repairs, it could still be used.
Moreover, an innate spiritual treasure of this level naturally possessed a certain degree of self-repair and regeneration.
Had Mosquito Daoist not ambushed Wukong and driven him into a complete frenzy, the Stabilizer of the Four Seas would not have broken so quickly.
After all, Wukong had spent countless years nurturing it behind his ear.
Before him, Mosquito Daoist’s body quickly reformed from the countless particles scattered across the battlefield.
Aside from his talent for ambushes, this fellow had another remarkable trait...
He was incredibly difficult to kill!
Otherwise, he would never have dared provoke so many of the Immortal Realm’s top powerhouses.
Had he been any weaker, they would have wiped him out long ago.
After restoring his true form, Mosquito Daoist looked even paler than before.
Wukong had already suffered two rounds of grievous injuries.
Yet Mosquito Daoist was in no better condition! He, too, had been severely wounded!
During their clash, Mosquito Daoist had truly felt the threat of complete annihilation.
The power of destruction was one of the most overwhelming forces in the Astral Realm.
Even though Mosquito Daoist could divide himself into billions of Blood Mosquitoes, he still could not withstand Wukong’s relentless barrage.
Ambushes were Mosquito Daoist’s specialty. Even Sage-level powerhouses had fallen to his schemes.
But fighting the Great Monkey of Destruction head-on was an entirely different matter.
Mosquito Daoist did not know whether Wukong would die. He only knew that he certainly would!
Wukong was the kind of ruthless opponent who would gladly drag his enemy down with him.
Such a vicious overlord was not someone anyone should provoke lightly.
On the battlefield of Divine Descendants World, Venerable Tianyang had only considered taking his enemies down with him after being driven into a hopeless situation.
The Great Monkey of Destruction was different. Once someone truly enraged him, he would stop at nothing until that enemy was dead!
He cared nothing for his Omnipotent Soul or his own life. He did not even care whether he had a path of retreat!
There will be no calming down until I, Old Sun, have crushed you![2]
That was the only thought left in Wukong’s mind.
For the first time in more than a hundred thousand years, Mosquito Daoist felt something he had almost forgotten—fear.
Before him, the Great Monkey of Destruction breathed heavily. His dark-gold eyes had turned bloodshot once more, and his jet-black fur stood on end like steel needles.
Beneath his white robes, Mosquito Daoist trembled faintly. His compound eyes darted from side to side, flickering with cunning and viciousness.
Seeing the Great Monkey of Destruction charging at him once again, Mosquito Daoist did not dare meet him head-on.
With a whoosh, his body split into billions of Blood Mosquitoes and swept toward Venerable Yunqi at the edge of the battlefield.
The origin power within Mosquito Daoist had already been nearly exhausted during their previous clash, and his Omnipotent Soul had suffered heavy damage as well.
Mosquito Daoist’s circumstances were different from the Great Monkey of Destruction.
Wukong had deep ties to the Buddhist, Daoist, and Yao factions. Once the battle ended, he could heal his wounds and restore his Omnipotent Soul with Golden Pills and all kinds of spiritual materials.
Moreover, as the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, he could draw upon the blessings of the Immortal Realm’s civilization to speed up his recovery.
Mosquito Daoist had no such luxury!
He had stirred up so much hatred throughout the Immortal Realm that nearly every sect and faction viewed him as an enemy.
By the standards of Magus World, he was a pure black mage—and one far beyond redemption.
Nergal, the leader of the Magus Civilization’s black mages, had at least devoted considerable time and effort to the development of the Magus Civilization.
Even if he had committed many dark deeds in the past, his contributions—especially those made while operating in places others could not—were enough to partly make up for them.
Mosquito Daoist was different. He was pure, festering evil and had never done a single good thing for the Immortal Realm!
If Laozi, the sage who embodied the Immortal Realm’s ideals of peace and impartiality, appeared here, he would probably draw the Heavenly Dao Sword and cut this being down.
After all, Mosquito Daoist had been directly responsible for the death of Laozi’s junior brother, Sage Jieyin.
The great sages of the Immortal Realm hated Mosquito Daoist even more than many of the foreign enemies they had fought in the past.
Those enemies had at least faced them openly on the battlefield.
Mosquito Daoist only knew how to play dirty. Worse still, he usually preyed on his own allies.
And now, he was charging toward Venerable Yunqi because he had sensed the abundant life force within him.
This fellow truly loved targeting his own people!
From Mosquito Daoist’s perspective, however, he had no other choice.
The Great Sage of Demonic Heaven was no easy target, while the Gallant Federation’s Conqueror-class Titan fleet was made of nothing but cold metal.
After weighing his options, the only suitable prey was the early Rank Seven overlord hiding near the edge of the battlefield.
Venerable Yunqi possessed a relatively abundant Omnipotent Soul and was clearly the weakest target available.
The hunger and exhaustion seeping from the depths of Mosquito Daoist’s cells left him desperate to feed.
As billions of Blood Mosquitoes surged toward Venerable Yunqi, Mosquito Daoist’s divine consciousness echoed frantically across the battlefield.
“One arm! Give me just one arm!”
1. Translator’s Recap: Quasi Sage = peak Rank Six. ☜
2. Translator’s Note: Wukong’s full name is Sun Wukong, which is why he sometimes refers to himself as “Old Sun”. Here, “Sun” is pronounced as “soon”, not “sun” as in the one in the sky. ☜
