Sovereign of the Ashes

Chapter 2009: What Is Going On?!

  • Next Chapter

A blazing sun suddenly appeared in the skies above Divine Descendants World, its radiance dazzling beyond compare!

Yet this was actually Venerable Tianyang, fighting beyond the plane.

Several years had passed, and the number of overlords besieging him had grown from three to five!

They were the Bladeist, the Thunder Beast King, Gustavo, the Holy Dragon King, and Gongsun Wuji.

Gongsun Wuji had not originally been part of the group attacking Venerable Tianyang. However, as the war in Divine Descendants World progressed, the Dawn Emperor realized that Venerable Tianyang was actually the easiest of their enemies to bring down, despite appearing to be the strongest.

Venerable Tianyang had truly been unlucky. From the very beginning, the Bladeist, the Thunder Beast King, and the demon overlord had kept him surrounded outside the Divine Descendants World, denying him any chance to enter the plane.

Unable to enter the large-sized plane, the late-stage Rank Seven venerable could not benefit from its partial law enhancements. Meanwhile, his opponents were also spared from the suppression of the planar will.

With one side weakened and the other strengthened, Venerable Tianyang’s situation had become the most precarious among the three enemy overlords, despite his late-stage Rank Seven strength.

As for the other venerable, Muge, although he was weaker, he had long since forced his way into Divine Descendants World while under assault from the Magus Civilization’s overlords.

Moreover, beings who mastered dendro elemental laws were naturally more resilient than those who practiced most other elemental paths.

Thanks to his Endless Vitality trait, Venerable Muge might even outlast Marduk.

Dawn Emperor Gongsun Wuji had recognized this as well. Since he had no hope of defeating Venerable Muge anytime soon, he decisively withdrew from that battlefield. Riding his holy mount, he headed beyond the plane to join the assault on Venerable Tianyang.

As for Venerable Muge, another overlord-level Bladeist and the Swiftling King remained behind to keep him occupied. Under their combined pressure, he could barely defend himself.

Escaping their encirclement was completely out of the question.

Besieged by five formidable enemies, none of whom could be considered ordinary, Venerable Tianyang’s defeat was already inevitable.

The blazing sun that had appeared beyond the plane was actually the light and heat released as he burned the last of his Overlord Soul.

The might of an overlord was truly not to be underestimated.

Even as his life entered its final moments, Venerable Tianyang remained the most dazzling presence across the entire battlefield.

The power he unleashed at the end was so immense that every living being in Divine Descendants World noticed the second sun blazing in the sky.

Even Sein, who was fighting on a small continent west of the main battlefield, could not help looking up.

The power Venerable Tianyang unleashed at that moment was more than ten thousand times greater than Sein’s own!

“So he’s an overlord who walks the path of the pyro element. What a pity he’s about to meet his end here,” Sein remarked as he gazed into the distant heavens.

Surrounding the “sun”, which radiated incomparable light and heat, were five “stars” whose brilliance was no less dazzling. Each shone with a distinct radiance of its own.

The Bladeist glowed a brilliant white. The Thunder Beast King radiated a violent black aura, while the demon overlord shone deep purple. The Dawn Emperor and his mount, the Holy Dragon King, blazed with dazzling golden light.

The five stars stood against the sun from afar.

Although the radiance Venerable Tianyang released at that moment was astonishing, it resembled the final glow of a dying flame—a last, desperate attempt to burn everything he had left.

Its brilliance blazed for only an instant and was destined to fade.

In contrast, the five stars surrounding him had suffered little from the battle. They continued to stand proudly in the starry sky, becoming objects of awe and worship for countless creatures below!

A furious voice filled with righteous indignation thundered from beyond the heavens.

This was Venerable Tianyang’s final roar.

An enormous palm imprint covered in fiery patterns swept toward the Dawn Emperor. Its sheer size made it visible even to Sein and the others far beyond the battlefield.

As a Rank Seven overlord driven into a corner, Venerable Tianyang could only choose one enemy to take down with him in his final moments.

Of all the overlords present, the one he hated most was none other than Gongsun Wuji, the Dawn Emperor.

Damn it! The Gallant Federation had clearly told them that only two overlords would be present on the battlefield—the Dawn Emperor and his mount. At most, the demon overlord might also be lurking somewhere in the shadows.

Why had billions of Insectoids and no fewer than six Insectoid overlords suddenly swarmed out the moment they arrived in Divine Descendants World?!

They had practically walked straight into a trap!

Given the choice, Venerable Tianyang would have dragged the federal marshal responsible for this intelligence disaster before him and made that fool experience his true might firsthand.

Unfortunately, the Gallant Federation forces stationed in Divine Descendants World had already been reduced to little more than cannon fodder.

With the federation in its current state, there was simply no way it could send any worthwhile reinforcements to this battlefield.

Aside from hating Gongsun Wuji for his complete lack of martial honor and for secretly setting such a terrifying ambush, Venerable Tianyang was further enraged by how shamelessly the Dawn Emperor had joined the assault atop the Holy Dragon King.

Damn it! Fighting three opponents at once was already difficult enough.

But five? Who could survive that?

Even if Venerable Haiyun, with his Rank Eight strength, came here in person, he would likely find himself overwhelmed for a time against five opponents of this caliber.

“Even if I die, I’ll drag you down with me!” Venerable Tianyang growled at Gongsun Wuji, his body blazing like a radiant star.

It seemed that anyone who wielded pyro elemental laws tended to have a fiery temper.

Although the inhabitants of Myriad Manifestations World could be somewhat calculating, they generally gave others the impression of being upright and honorable.

The fact that Venerable Tianyang was now cursing inwardly and preparing to take his enemy down with him revealed just how much humiliation and frustration he had endured.

If you have the guts, fight me one-on-one instead of ganging up on me!

The ferocious, self-destructive aura radiating from Venerable Tianyang as he faced death affected even the surrounding overlords.

A close-range self-destruction fueled by such immense pyro elemental energy would be terrifying beyond measure.

Although he was still outside Divine Descendants World, the shock waves and violent law fluctuations from an overlord’s self-destruction would inevitably sweep across the plane.

There was no telling how many lesser creatures would be caught in the aftermath.

Such was the sorrow and helplessness of the weak.

At that critical moment, the surrounding overlords reacted differently.

Gustavo withdrew his sword and retreated some distance. He then produced a bone shield that radiated formidable law energy and raised it before him.

The Thunder Beast King shifted its massive body and moved closer to Gongsun Wuji.

With its durable scales, thick bone armor, and extraordinary vitality, it was indeed the only one capable of acting as a meat shield and directly enduring Venerable Tianyang’s desperate final attack.

In this battle between overlords, the Thunder Beast King played a role similar to Baxia’s when the Magus Civilization’s overlords surrounded and attacked the Eighth Pharaoh of the Amenkha Empire.

Strictly speaking, however, Baxia’s defensive capabilities were far superior to those of the Thunder Beast King.
