Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Some Emotions Are Innate

The staff members sent by the production team to act as NPCs quickly got into position in the afternoon.

The selection method was decided internally by a game of rock-paper-scissors.

Whoever lost had to go.

...It was obvious they weren’t exactly thrilled about this "work assignment."

Of course, no one would let it show in front of the guests.

That was until the afternoon, when Nan Zhi was cooking and happened to share some food with the new NPCs, leaving their mouths greasy and their faces beaming.

The other staff members: !!!

’You never said this job included meals!’

They were practically drooling as they watched from behind the monitors.

The job’s appeal suddenly skyrocketed in their eyes!

Immediately after, everyone started discussing who should be sent to work the next day:

"How can we let those two do all the hard work? We should all share the burden. I, for one, am very willing."

"Me too! It’s not that I want to go eat, I just purely want to do my part for the team!"

"How about we decide with rock-paper-scissors again?"

"Sure, but this time, the winner goes!"

"..."

Business at Nan Family’s Small Restaurant was so good that they didn’t have any extra staff to spare.

Forget about delivery service; even customers who wanted to get their leftovers to-go were politely turned down!

Now, the production team’s only hope for satisfying their cravings was the small amount of braised meat they could get by waiting in line each day.

With the braised meat about to be taken off the menu, what were they supposed to do next?

They were the show’s production staff. They couldn’t just stop filming the reality show and run off to eat, could they?

What if the audience recognized them?

Therefore, there was no better way than to be openly dispatched over there!

Behind the group of staff members engaged in a heated discussion, Xu Lin stood silently.

As the general director, he was too embarrassed to join in.

But hearing what everyone was saying...

’Damn it!’

’What am I going to do? I’m suddenly regretting turning down Nan Zhi’s offer!’

-

By evening, business at Nan Family’s Small Restaurant was still booming.

When Lu Shixu arrived, it was the peak of the dinner rush.

His black Bentley was parked by the roadside, and from a distance, he could see the long line of people at the restaurant’s entrance.

Tao An sucked in a sharp breath. "Hiss!"

Lu Shixu hadn’t brought a driver, so he was the one behind the wheel.

Seeing the bustling scene, Tao An imagined having to squeeze through the crowd with Mr. Lu soon...

’My scalp is tingling!’

"It seems Miss Nan Zhi’s restaurant is doing very well," Tao An murmured obsequiously.

He hoped Mr. Lu would be more tolerant of the environment for Miss Nan Zhi’s sake.

Lu Shixu tilted his head, his gaze fixed on a specific spot through the car window.

Not getting a response, Tao An turned and noticed Lu Shixu’s peculiar expression.

He followed his boss’s line of sight.

"It’s Miss Nan Zhi’s son!"

At that moment, Nan Yi was standing at the entrance of Nan Family’s Small Restaurant.

But he wasn’t alone. Beside him, a little girl with two pigtails was bouncing around him as she talked.

Tao An had seen the main broadcast of the reality show and recognized the little girl as Xie An’an, the daughter of director Xie Yu.

He just hadn’t expected Xie An’an to be on such good terms with Nan Yi.

’That little guy Nan Yi usually seems so cold...’

Well, it seemed he had been mistaken.

Tao An saw it with his own eyes—

The next second, Nan Yi looked as if he had reached his limit.

He forcefully shook off Xie An’an’s hand, which was tugging at the corner of his shirt, and turned to leave.

Caught completely off guard, Xie An’an seemed a little hurt by the action.

She stared blankly at Nan Yi’s retreating figure, her pigtails drooping listlessly.

She looked quite pitiful.

’Did the kids have a fight?’

Tao An hesitated, wanting to suggest that Mr. Lu go check on Nan Yi.

’Mr. Lu is clearly posturing to pursue Miss Nan Zhi. If that’s the case, then winning over Nan Yi is the most logical thing to do! What’s that phrase again? Oh, a roundabout approach...’

CLICK.

Before Tao An could say a word, he heard the crisp click of the car door unlocking.

When he looked back again, Lu Shixu had already silently opened the door and gotten out of the back seat.

The direction he was striding in was precisely where Nan Yi had gone.

Tao An froze for a second before hastily chasing after him, forgetting everything else.

But Lu Shixu was faster.

His long, suit-trouser-clad legs carried him forward with the force of a gale.

In the blink of an eye, he was right behind Nan Yi, reaching out to press down on his shoulder...

Nan Yi was like a sharp and wary little wolf.

Before Lu Shixu could even touch him, it was as if he had a premonition of danger. Without a word, he ducked his head and bolted.

Lu Shixu instinctively grabbed the back of his collar and effortlessly hauled him back.

Nan Yi didn’t make a sound, simply twisting his head and biting down viciously!

Lu Shixu didn’t dodge or flinch.

And so, when Tao An caught up just moments later, the sight that greeted him was—

Nan Yi, his eyes squeezed shut, ferociously biting Lu Shixu’s wrist, straining so hard his little face was flushed red.

Meanwhile, Lu Shixu hadn’t even furrowed a brow, looking down at Nan Yi with calm indifference.

After a few seconds, he tossed out a question:

"Had enough?"

Only then did Nan Yi open his eyes.

After seeing and recognizing who it was, he bit down even harder.

His action contained a release of frustration he himself might not have been aware of.

Lu Shixu watched him, looking thoughtful.

Tao An was the quickest to react, rushing forward to hold Nan Yi.

"It’s a misunderstanding, little guy! My boss isn’t a bad person!"

Nan Yi’s glare grew fiercer and he bit down with more force, filled with the savage ferocity of a wolf cub!

’He *is* a bad guy! I remember this guy! The man I hated on sight, who’s always getting close to Mom!’

Tao An couldn’t stop him and was so anxious he was breaking out in a cold sweat.

Lu Shixu lowered his gaze.

"Does she know you ran out?"

Nan Yi’s ferocious gaze froze.

It was like solid ice slowly starting to melt.

Finally, he slowly released his teeth and spat on the ground—SPIT, SPIT, SPIT—as if he had bitten into something filthy.

Then he glared at Lu Shixu again, his actions showing his displeasure at Lu Shixu mentioning his mother!

Lu Shixu turned his wrist over, glanced at the wound, and raised an eyebrow slightly.

Tao An, however, was terrified.

"It’s—it’s bleeding! Shouldn’t we bandage it? Should I call Doctor Jiang? Or should we go straight to a nearby hospital or clinic..."

"No need."

Lu Shixu’s expression didn’t change, as if it were a minor injury not worth mentioning.

Tao An’s jaw dropped.

The skin was broken, blood was seeping out, and the area around the teeth marks was red and purple. It was clear how much force the biter had used...

’And he calls this a minor injury?’

In the next instant, Tao An was once again filled with admiration for Mr. Lu—

Look at that. Just moments ago, he was thinking of advising Mr. Lu to win over Nan Yi as a roundabout approach. But as it turned out, there was no need for his reminder. Mr. Lu had already figured it out all on his own and was executing it so perfectly!

Lu Shixu didn’t look at Tao An, his gaze fixed on Nan Yi.

"Why did you run off?"

"None of your business."

Nan Yi finally spoke.

But every word that came out of his little mouth was filled with resistance and disgust for Lu Shixu.

Toward the man in front of him, this emotion needed no accumulation; it was as if it had been there from birth!

As for Lu Shixu:

"Oh. It has to do with your mother."

"It does not!"

Nan Yi’s eyes widened, his cheeks puffed out in anger!
