Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 65: Aidan Cried

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Aidan Cried

Lin Jingjing and Aidan walked side by side, with Beisang leading the way ahead of them.

She leaned close to Aidan’s ear and deliberately lowered her voice. "If Chief Bei chews us out in a bit, you have to help take some of the heat for me."

"If I get punished with my Grade D spiritual power, it’ll be a fate worse than death."

Hearing this, Aidan gave her a speechless look.

The spiritual power she’d unleashed in the cafeteria couldn’t possibly be Grade D, no matter how you looked at it.

"Your Spirit Level is Grade D?" Aidan asked, unconvinced.

Lin Jingjing patted her chest, then pulled out her First Corps ID to show him. "The real deal."

"I’m a very delicate flower, you know." After speaking, she gazed up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, putting on an especially sorrowful expression.

Aidan was speechless. Up ahead, Beisang was also speechless.

Leaving two people speechless at once—Lin Jingjing truly had a talent for the absurd.

"You must have reported your Spiritual Power Level incorrectly." Aidan glanced at the large letter ’D’, completely unwilling to believe it was real.

"The spiritual power you just used was at least on par with..." As he spoke, he deliberately glanced at Beisang walking ahead of them and lowered his voice even more. "...Chief Bei’s."

"It has to be 2S, right?"

Hearing Aidan’s words, Lin Jingjing was so startled she jumped to the side, her face a mask of pure shock.

Her eyes went wide in an expression of disbelief as she said, "Bro, don’t get me killed."

"Your mouth just opens and closes, but those words could cost me half my life."

She quickly slung an arm around his shoulder and said with extreme seriousness, "Buddy, you’re not trying to get me killed, are you?"

Aidan looked at her serious expression, not understanding what she was afraid of. ’Isn’t a higher Spiritual Power Level a good thing? It would be a huge help for promotions in the future, so why is she so scared?’

"It’s a good thing," Aidan replied.

Beisang glanced at them out of the corner of her eye before finally entering the office building.

The three of them stood before the elevator. Lin Jingjing and Aidan no longer dared to mess around, standing obediently as they waited for the elevator to arrive.

When the elevator arrived, the three of them stepped inside. The car was silent; no one said another word.

After exiting the elevator, they headed for the office.

Once inside the office, Beisang sat in her customary seat, then steepled her fingers and rested them against her chin.

"Who started this farce?" Beisang asked.

Lin Jingjing pointed unceremoniously at Aidan. "He did. I just couldn’t stand by and watch, so I helped him out a little."

Aidan took a step forward and claimed full responsibility. "I did it all myself."

"Lin Jingjing was only there because I cornered her outside the women’s dorms and asked her to come."

Hearing this, Lin Jingjing silently gave him a thumbs-up.

’This little bro has guts.’

Beisang nodded, then continued her questioning. "They were slandering fallen soldiers. When you found out, you could have reported them. Why did you take matters into your own hands?"

Aidan immediately replied, "That group all have high levels, but they’ve barely seen a battlefield. They must have someone backing them. If I reported it, who would even handle it?"

"It was more satisfying to just beat them up myself."

Hearing his words, Beisang thought of the director of the finance department.

He had withheld the new recruits’ subsidies. If Lin Jingjing and the others hadn’t spoken up, tens of millions of Star Coins would have ended up in that man’s pocket.

Now, someone was slandering fallen soldiers in a crowded place like the cafeteria. They truly had no respect for her as the Chief of the First Corps.

’Do they think I’m a pushover, with no authority?’

"And you’re not afraid of being punished?"

Hearing the word "punishment," Aidan laughed, then said with great seriousness, "Punish me, then. At worst, I’ll quit being a soldier and go home to be a farmer."

When Lin Jingjing heard he wanted to go home and farm, she couldn’t help but stare at him for a few extra moments.

’Does this guy even know how to farm?’

"My friend died saving someone. His wife and five-year-old child are waiting for him to come home. What right do those people have to talk like that?"

"If they want those few million Star Coins so badly, let them trade places with my friend..."

At the mention of Aaron, Aidan became extremely emotional, his chest heaving.

Aaron didn’t even have an intact body left; he was turned into mincemeat. And his wife and child were looking forward to him coming home at the end of the year to celebrate the New Year with them.

Aaron hadn’t been home in three years. During his monthly leave, he would video call his wife.

After every call, he would hide in the bathroom and cry, muttering over and over how he had failed his wife and child.

Aidan saw it all. With only a few months left until the end of the year, Aaron had been discussing what toys and clothes to buy for his child with him the night before that final battle.

But he died!

Crushed under the hammer of that mutant beast!

So what right did this group have to belittle the dead?

Was it because they were weak?

Compared to those loudmouths, Aaron was a cut above the rest.

The more Aidan thought about it, the more distraught he became, until tears finally spilled from his eyes.

Ever since Aidan joined the First Corps, Aaron had always looked out for him, teaching him from his own experience like an older brother.

How could he possibly accept this?

Watching a grown man’s tears splash onto the silver floor, both Lin Jingjing and Beisang fell silent.

"They’re gone, and those people who do nothing, what right do they have to slander them like that!"

"Why do you officers let this kind of thing happen?"

"Don’t you know how many people this will dishearten?"

Of course, Beisang knew. You can’t let heroes shed blood only to shed tears.

"I know." Beisang stood up from her seat. "I will give you a satisfactory answer regarding this matter."

"However, your actions violated military regulations, so punishment is unavoidable."

Aidan wiped his tears and said, "I know. I’m not afraid of being punished, only that I couldn’t help them."

Lin Jingjing nodded. ’This kid is pretty amazing.’

"One hundred strikes with the military baton, plus a 3,000-word self-criticism."

As Beisang issued the order, Aidan replied, "Yes, ma’am."

After dealing with Aidan, Beisang’s gaze fell on Lin Jingjing, her eyes narrowing slightly.

She reached for her Space Ring and pulled out a device.

"Lin Jingjing, come here."

Lin Jingjing walked up to her with a smile on her face. "Is there something I can do for you, Chief Bei?"

"You’re not going to punish me too, are you?"

"Put a drop of your blood in here," Beisang said, cutting straight to the point.

"Oh." Lin Jingjing complied. She scanned the desk, picked up a dagger lying to the side, and carefully tried to nick her index finger. But the dagger was so sharp that despite her caution, she still made a rather deep cut.

As blood welled up, Lin Jingjing quickly let a drop fall into the device.

Then she wrapped her wound with a tissue.
