Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Dr. S

The few people standing nearby fell into the large pit below as the muddy ground collapsed.

Feng He would have fallen in too, but Mo Xuan shoved her, pushing her clear of the massive pit.

She slumped beside the pit, her mouth slightly agape, her eyes filled with disbelief.

’They’d just found a random place to rest—how could something like this happen?’

Snapping out of it, Feng He scrambled to the edge of the pit and shouted down, "Mo Xuan! Sister Lin! Shi Feng! Gu Kaiwen!"

"Are you guys okay?!"

The pit was pitch-black, and she couldn’t see a thing. Her shouts only produced echoes, swallowed by the sound of the wind.

After shouting, Feng He waited by the edge of the pit for a good while, but no one replied.

This started to make Feng He panic.

’Right, get help.’

’Find Admiral He.’

Feng He immediately scrambled up from the ground and hurried toward He Shian’s location.

"Admiral He!" Feng He yelled as she ran. The sun had already set. Besides the surrounding streetlights, the only illumination came from the light orbs deployed by the military.

Feng He looked at the light orb following her, only now realizing it was already dark.

’It’s dark. Will they be in danger after falling into that hole?’

’Could it be full of mutant beasts?’

At this thought, the rims of her eyes turned red.

He Shian heard someone calling his name. He looked around before finally locking onto the source of the voice.

He headed in Feng He’s direction and saw her after walking for five or six minutes.

Feng He’s hair was disheveled and her eyes were red. Her voice was choked with sobs. As soon as she saw He Shian, she said, "They all fell into the hole!"

"You have to save them," Feng He shouted, stopping in her tracks.

After listening, He Shian nodded immediately. "Don’t worry," he said.

He then summoned some soldiers and rushed over. Upon arriving, they surrounded the pit.

The light orbs illuminated the entire pit, but it was so deep the bottom wasn’t visible.

Feng He crouched by the edge, her heart racing with anxiety.

"He Luanchuan, take a team down to investigate," He Shian ordered after observing the pit. "Report anything that happens immediately."

He Luanchuan immediately acknowledged the order, then led thirty men into the pit.

Feng He, worried sick about them, disregarded all discipline. "I’m going too," she said.

Then, while no one was paying attention, she grabbed a rope and jumped into the hole.

He Shian watched the hem of Feng He’s clothes disappear, then expressionlessly issued an order to He Luanchuan, who was descending into the pit, "He Luanchuan, keep an eye on that girl from the logistics department."

He Luanchuan, who was leading his team forward, acknowledged the order.

After responding, he tilted his head to look back and saw Feng He, who only came up to the soldiers’ shoulders, amidst a group of tall and imposing men.

"Hey, the girl. You, come here," He Luanchuan called out to Feng He.

Feng He walked over. "Captain He, did you need me for something?" she asked.

He Luanchuan looked at her, then asked, "There are many unknown dangers down here. Weren’t you afraid when you jumped?"

’Afraid?’

’Maybe. But when she thought about her friends who had fallen down here, she wasn’t scared at all. In fact, she found a great deal of courage.’

She just wanted to bring them back, one by one. Feng He shook her head. "I’m not afraid. I just want to get them out."

Hearing her words, He Luanchuan said, "Suit yourself. When you run into trouble, remember to look after your own life. Don’t die."

He turned away, ignoring her. Feng He didn’t mind. The most important thing for her was finding Lin Jingjing and the others.

Meanwhile, the people Feng He was so worried about were currently making their way along a cavern path.

The cave routes inside forked in every direction, like a giant maze.

Two people suddenly appeared at a fork in the path up ahead. They were wearing white protective suits reeking of a foul stench, chatting as they walked. "Dr. S is really amazing. He’s almost finished his research."

"You think he’s amazing?" his companion asked in surprise. "I think he’s terrifying."

"He’s so ruthless, even to his own colleagues. I’m afraid he’ll do the same to me." The man’s voice trembled as he spoke.

The other colleague, however, was completely unfazed, saying with fervent passion, "If Dr. S agrees, I am willing to contribute to the Young Master’s great dream."

"Heh, well, I still want to get married and have kids."

They continued walking and talking until their voices completely faded.

Only after the two had left did the four of them stand up straight. They had gleaned a piece of information from the duo’s conversation.

The three behind her hurried to keep up. At the fork in the road, they chose the path opposite to the one the two men had taken.
