Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Great War Ends

As everyone listened to the song, they felt their entire bodies relax.

The nerves that had been stretched taut slowly unwound, and everyone became immersed in the music.

But the trio on the desert sands were busy. Lin Jingjing summoned her army of animals to help them slay their enemies.

Shi Feng brandished his silver whip, striking down mutant beasts one by one.

Gu Kaiwen’s speed and strength had reached a new level; he charged ahead, taking down a mutant beast with every punch.

Fortunately, they hadn’t become completely lost in the music. Halfway through the song, they immediately counterattacked when a mutant beast lunged at them.

The children’s song was short, just over two minutes long.

After the song finished, Feng He and Mo Xuan came down from above. They handed their equipment to Lin Jingjing to put away.

Then, the two of them joined the battle.

Yun Yiyou, after rushing over, finally arrived with his secretary. He had never been to the front lines before.

He had only ever watched through a live feed. He never expected the front lines to be even more dire than what the broadcast showed.

"No wonder..." Yun Yiyou muttered to himself.

His gaze fixed on three massive mutant beasts in the distance. They were sweeping across the battlefield with their Skills, attacking indiscriminately.

Yun Yiyou exited his Mecha, levitated into the air, and stored it away before flying toward the three behemoths.

His appearance drew everyone’s attention. Once the crowd got a clear look at him, they burst into cheers.

"It’s our King!"

"It’s the King! Is he finally making his move?"

"Is the war about to end?"

"It’s almost over!"

They were ecstatic. Lin Jingjing and her group stopped what they were doing and looked up at Yun Yiyou, who was hovering in the air.

Yun Yiyou stopped about five meters away from the three massive mutant beasts. He stared at them with a cold expression, then raised a hand and took aim.

Watching him pose so dramatically, the group began to wonder if he could actually back it up.

Their doubts lasted until they saw Yun Yiyou use a single move to pierce straight through the massive mutant beast in front of him, along with the monster controlling it from within.

Lin Jingjing and the other four were left completely speechless.

Incredibly strong.

Even Mo Xuan had to admit that this Yun Yiyou was powerful.

But powerful or not, that brought up another question: if he was this strong, why hadn’t he stepped in to help sooner?

’Did he enjoy watching the show that much?’

In any case, Mo Xuan’s opinion of him plummeted. How could someone who turned a blind eye to everyone’s suffering possibly be a good leader?

"Show-off," Mo Xuan grumbled.

Yun Yiyou finished off the three massive mutant beasts in a few swift moves, then descended to the ground. Gazing at the corpses and wreckage strewn everywhere, he walked forward in silence.

Seeing the numb expressions on the soldiers’ faces, Yun Yiyou regretted his decision.

’I should have intervened personally,’ he thought. ’That way, no one would have had to face these terrifying monsters.’

Yun Yiyou stopped walking. The Army Commanders of the major corps had appeared behind him. Captain Li also stood behind him, surveying the surroundings. No one spoke.

Yun Yiyou released his spiritual power, spreading it to encompass the entire battlefield.

Then, that gentle spiritual power transformed into sharp blades, piercing through the monsters and mutant beasts. Not a single one was spared.

As the last of the man-eating monsters was killed, the sun began its slow rise at dawn.

The brilliant sunlight shone down on everyone, dispersing the cold and the gloom that clung to them.

The great battle was over. They had won.

Gu Kaiwen and Shi Feng, casting aside all appearances, simply collapsed onto the ground. They stared at the sky, then glanced at each other and broke into laughter.

"We won."

Watching them cheer in celebration, Beijasi crushed a wine glass in his hand.

’That arrogant Yun Yiyou actually came out to deal with these things himself? Didn’t he just abandon all of B6 Star last time?’

"Hmph. What does one victory matter? I hope you can keep winning every time after this," Beijasi said, slowly and methodically wiping the red wine from his hand and trousers with a towel.

From crushing the glass, shards had dug into his hand, and blood was flowing freely.

He paid it no mind. After taking out a Recovery Potion from his Space Ring and drinking it, he went back to watching the live feed.

Seeing the two of them lying on the ground, Lin Jingjing put away her large sniper rifle and decided to lie down as well.

But just as she was about to hit the ground, a large lion rushed out to cushion her fall.

"ROAR—"

’Master, land on me!’

Resting on the lion’s soft belly, Lin Jingjing felt incredibly comfortable.

Once she relaxed her mind, a wave of exhaustion washed over her.

Her eyelids felt too heavy to open, as if they weighed a ton.

But Lin Jingjing knew it wasn’t time to sleep yet, so she forced herself to stay awake.

Yun Yiyou ordered the new recruits from logistics to clean up the battlefield.

A few squad leaders were left behind to direct the cleanup, while the rest were told to go back and rest.

Everyone had worked hard in this great battle.

Finally able to return, Lin Jingjing and her group of five hurried back without a moment’s delay.

After they got back, they took another shower, drank a Nutrient Liquid, and then collapsed onto their beds to sleep.

All five of them did the same. They had overused their spiritual power and needed time to recover.

And sleep was the only way to restore spiritual power.

They slept soundly, and for a very long time.

「Three days later.」

Whether by telepathy or pure coincidence, the five of them all woke up at the same time.

Waking up, they sat on their beds and groggily looked around before getting up with messy bedheads.

After using their Star Rings to contact each other and set a time for a meal, they all started getting ready.

Having changed into casual clothes, the group went downstairs to meet at the agreed-upon spot.

After they gathered, a quick chat revealed that everyone had slept for a very long time.

"Did we all turn into sleeping gods or something?" Shi Feng exclaimed.

Three days and two nights. They had really slept a lot.

"It’s because we used too much spiritual power. Sleeping like this is how the body recovers it," Feng He replied.

They went to the cafeteria to find something to eat. Famished, each of them grabbed two free bottles of Nutrient Liquid.

Just as they were about to leave the cafeteria, Captain Li came over to intercept them. "You lot, you’re finally awake," Captain Li said happily, seeing how refreshed they all looked.

"Your ennoblement ceremony is in a few days. Don’t you dare mention anything about retiring."

A few days ago, Captain Li had received a mission from Yun Yiyou: he was to ensure these five individuals remained in the First Corps, no matter what.

Besides, Captain Li also felt that after contributing so much and earning such great merits, it would be a waste for them to just retire so casually.

They had earned those honors with their lives; they couldn’t just throw them away.

"So it wasn’t just an empty promise," Mo Xuan blurted out.

"I thought it was an empty promise too. But I have a feeling the positions they’ll offer won’t be that great," Gu Kaiwen added.

"Keep slaving away for them?" Shi Feng frowned. "Not really interested."

Hearing their comments, Captain Li quickly said, "Don’t overthink it! Just wait and see. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!"
